It's not milk, it is juice.

    Hi OP,
What is the normal used by period? 3, 6 or 12 months? Is this good for making Latte cos some brands tend to split once is forth over 60C.

    • Is this good for making Latte

It's good for making Almond ricotta.

    • 14 months for this ALMO, may vary for other brands.

    • Said Barista friendly on the bottle!

    • I've brought this brand before and it is amazing for making coffee.

  • How much is the percentage of Almond in this milk ?

    • 5% Whole Australian Grown Almonds as per the manufacturer.

      • Can you provide the full ingredients list ?

        • It is shown in image 4 in the website.

        • Can you provide the full ingredients list ?

          95% water, 5% almonds.

@jv: So it's more like nut cordial?

          • +1

@jv: Do you expect it to be 100% almonds???

            • +2

              @Raynes: I expected more than 5%

              • @jv: Why are you not making the same comment on deals for soft drink and beer, since the same applies to those products ?

                • @Raynes:

Why are you not making the same comment on deals for soft drink and beer

Maybe I will. Why don't you?

                  • @jv: looking forward to your probing comment asking why there isn't more hops and yeast

                    • @Raynes:

why there isn't more hops and yeast

Because they need to leave room for the barley.

              • -1

@jv: 5% is consider higher than average as most brands around around 3% but given that this brand originally selling for $7, 5% is what is expected at least.

                • @JCRALLYART: You can buy Pureharvest Unsweetened ORGANIC Almond Milk with 7% almonds for $2 each from Amazon (and from Coles or Woollies when on sale)

          • @jv: Wow, so 95% of it is made of the same stuff 60% of a human is. Disgusting!

            • @besttraveltech:

              60% of a human is

              60% sounds more reasonable.

              • @jv: So you want the viscosity of mud? Another nonsense comment from OzB's least respected member.

                • @besttraveltech:

So you want the viscosity of mud?

Why would that be the viscosity of mud?

                  • @jv: Because it'd be roughly 40% solid and 60% liquid, which would make it about as viscous as mud.

                    • @besttraveltech:

                      as viscous as mud.

mud viscosity varies a lot though.

                      • @jv: Yes, it does, and a drink that is 40% solid would be well within the viscosity of mud.

No drink you'd find in Woolies would be 40% solid.

Go blend a mix of 40% almonds and 60% water and see how pleasurable that is.

                        To compare to dairy:

Water constitutes the major ingredient (61-77%) of most creams.

And the other 23-39% is largely fat, which is liquid. So you literally think that there should be less water in almond milk than there is in dairy cream. You think dairy milk should be less viscous than dairy cream.

                        Stop being ridiculous.

                        • @besttraveltech: But I thought it was nut juice, not nut puree.

                          • @Elpres: it's nut milk, so it should be creamy, but much more viscous than actual cream.

  • Is it still consumable after best before date? I know some food can still be consumed after best before, just not as fresh but totally fine.

    • Given it’s only water and nuts I’d say it’ll be ok for a bit

    • Yes as it is best before.
As per Food safety act 1984, Manufacturers needs to mark it expiry or use by date if it is not safe after that date.

      • Thanks. Got 2 dozen. Been trying a lot of unsweentened almond milk for coffee but usually not creamy enough. So hopefully this one will hit the spot!

      • Food safety act 1984

That is almost 40 years ago.

We know a lot more about food safety these days.

        • smh, Acts get amended. Also, your point is irrelevant.

Manufacturers needs to mark it "expiry" … if it is not safe after that date

Please explain what we've learnt in the last 40 years that changes the idea of best before vs use by.

          • @besttraveltech:

what we've learnt in the last 40 years

            Advances in food science.

            • @jv: Advances in food science don't change the idea of having a best before date (where food isn't optimal after a certain date) and an expiry date (where food is unhealthy/risky after a certain date)…

Please explain specifically what we've learnt in the last 40 years that changes the idea of best before vs use by.

              • @besttraveltech:

Advances in food science don't change the idea of having a best before date

Depends on the area of food science that you specialise in….

                • @jv: Good, be specific. Until you can:

Some in the field believe this is more of a continuum, and not distinct dates.

                • @jv: So you expect a continuum to be printed on packaging? LMAO

                  You're being absurd.

                  • @besttraveltech:

So you expect a continuum to be printed on packaging?

How it is best represented is still being debated.

                    • @jv: I'm sure it's being hotly debated 🤣🤣🤣

                      • @besttraveltech: Yes, there are a few international guest speakers coming to the conference in Brisbane later this year.

  • I'll try some, Thanks!

  • What's the Xanathan gum for?

    • Probably as a thickener.

    • +2

Purpose is to combine, so milk is homogeneous. Not separate. Also use at thickener and stabiliser as well.

  • Should these be in the fridge or pantry?

    • +1

Ambient, so pantry is okay. Once open, needs refrigeration.

  • Why would you buy this product which is short dated and has only 5% almonds and contains Xanathan (artificial thickening agent) when you can buy Pureharvest Unsweetened ORGANIC Almond Milk with 7% almonds for the same price, e.g. $2 each from Amazon (and from Coles or Woollies when on sale)?
