30m for those playing at home

Also the coupon works with the 75 foot (~23m) cable = $6.74

Cheers. Also got a $5 promotional credit from Amazon for adding another payment card at the checkout page bringing it down to $4.20 (presumably targeted).

Shocking cable.. I could have had a dud but wouldn't buy again!

      Shocking cable.

Why? I didn't own this but I bought some from eBay 30M and 15M from Amazon no problem so far.

      • +3

100mbps max - then the cable dropped out completely and stopped working

        • OK, mine seem fine, just tried 40GB file and I am getting 80MB/s. I found that Windows copying very depends on single large file or many small files.

It is not as good as normal round CAT6 cable but I couldn't run hard, round cable from one end of the house to the other end.

        • +1

I just received mine and tested, getting over 300 MB/s on a 2.5gbps connection. (Asustor NAS, D-link switch and a USB 2.5gbps Ethernet dongle)

Same here. Connect at 1Gb then drops at 100… It was for Unify AP. After changing infinite settings, i just swap cables, thinking "it cant be". Well, it was. Solid 1gb after that.
But, if they keep selling them, might have been a dud.Still, never again.

  • gold! hmmmm are these cables considered an investment

    • You could make a (gold) necklace out of it, if you like.

  • +3

Amusingly the shielded gold shell doesn't do anything as the cable itself isn't shielded.

  • Lightning deal sold out

  • +7

Going by reviews this cable is only really good for 100mb. Not exactly 'CAT6'. Seems a cheapie.

Junk. That's why Amazon isn't selling it themselves… don't want to stuff around with the re-credits.

    • don't want to stuff around with the re-credits.

via Amazon, so still return back to Amazon to get refund.

      • hm I've had problems with this as 'third party seller' - after the amazon 30 day return window any issues then you have to stuff around with amazon & messaging the actual seller directly rather than a simple rectification

        • after the amazon 30 day return window any issues then you have to stuff around with amazon

I have no problem returned faulty Soundpeats earphone to Amazon after 7 months, they even gave me extra credit to buy another one because I couldn't get extra lightning discount anymore.

You just need to online chat with their agent.

hm I've had problems with this as 'third party seller

Most stuff on Amazon are third party seller not directly from Amazon AU but via Amazon AU.

Are you talking about both ship and sell by third party seller?

  • Good for the reolink cameras? Would cooler night temperatures affect performance much or hots days in Perth if you had to clip this outsidefor a few metres

It's just generic flat cable, there is nothing special about it.

But I would not power PoE cameras through 30M of flat cable- the wires are thinner than typical round cable and have higher resistance.

      • Cheers mate

But I would not power PoE cameras through 30M of flat cable- the wires are thinner than typical round cable and have higher resistance.

Cameras don't use much power so there is a good chance it will work fine. My switch reports my Hikvision camera consumption as 2.85W, so let's round up to 3W. At 48V that's 63mA.

This cable is 32AWG which is 164.1 ohms per 1000ft. You can use a PoE calculator to calculate the voltage drop at 30m, which is 1.03V. That's 46.97V which is a good amount above the minimum 44V allowed by 802.3at.

At 32AWG 30m the maximum permissible power is 10W before the voltage drops below the standard, so you can use that headroom to account for connector resistance.

      • I have a flat cable running a PoE U6 Pro access point. Works fine at full speed. I think mine is 30m too.

        • Yeah, I think very depends which seller, good thing from Amazon is, if no good just return it.

        • -1

Yeah, I have run PoE via flat cables as well as temporary setups or for short runs.

But… the wires in a flat UTP cable are typically AWG32 versus the AWG24(?) in a round cable. They are hair thin. I would not want want to run much, if any, power through something like that. If the OP is concerned, there are tables showing how much current different gauges can take.

This is even more the case if it's some generic Chinese cable like in the OP versus something properly branded (come to think of it, I have never seen any of the big serious brands do flat UTP).

Edit: I see that @eug has addressed this in more detail.

  • Very happy with mine.

  • Bought the 75ft, need it for the Nvidia Shield. Atrocious wireless connectivity

  • Received my 30ft cable, it links fine at 1Gbps. All pairs are connected.
