Do You Think It's Time We Increased The 24-Hour Negative Voting for Comments?

It's been a while since I've hit my 24-hour negative voting cap for comments (after spending it all on this post).

Is it time we should be lobbying to increase the limit?

I was referring to the GP forum post that was linked.

I feel like you know me better now having gone through my post history, tell me something about yourself :)

Unlike you, when I refer to posts, I actually link to the source.

Maybe the limit should be five different users per day, with no limit per user. this change would really hurt jv tho…

Yes! As Frank Costanza said, "I got a lot of problems with you people! And now you’re gonna hear about it!"

nah it reminds me to cool down and not get too emotionally invested on a bloody forum lol

I vote for removal of negative vote on comments, or either:

    1. Remove the cap, but don't hide comments with negative votes
    2. Make it non-time constrained, instead for each positive vote you received, you get one negative vote to spend.

"but don't hide comments with negative votes"

Yes, what's that about? Is that cancel culture?

You can choose to opt in/out via the 3 dots at the bottom of the page.

        • +1

          Aha, thanks for the tip.

        • Today I learned about the three dots lol, thanks

        • What 3 dots? Which page?

    • for each positive vote you received, you get one negative vote to spend

This is a bad idea. This will incentivise lots of low-quality comments on every post as a way to get more negative votes.

      • Low-quality comments won't get a plus votes, well, hopefully.

The fact JV occasionally gets a plus shows that anyone can get a plus.

I hope many will agree that a reasonable use of negative votes is for incorrect (facts), out-of-topic, offensive (calling names etc), or gibberish (like that 'Reeeee' below) comments.
However, more and more people use it to silence a differing point of view or other opinions. And also to make a point (whatever it is).
It's just impossible to police whether a neg vote is warranted or not, and sometimes the mobs win.
I am all for freedom of speech, so either remove the hiding/censoring thing, or make the negative votes only available to few reasonable and reputable users.

Or limit certain people to 5 comments per day.

  • +4

we should be really able to vote on topics too! blame the person to started it all!

My limit has been fine since the disappearance of rektrading and slavoz.

I'd argue we have more nutjobs in the forums now than we ever did when those two were active.

If Mao want's it this way…..

i cbf being a karen and neg voting

  • I love neg-votes. But yeah, since posts get hidden after only a few (3?) negs, probably good to have a cap.

    • -1

How about increasing to 10 negs limit AND at least 90% of negs vs plus before they get hidden. So for example, a comment with 8 negs and 2 plus won't be hidden, but 9 negs and 1 plus will.

      • And by your calculation, a single neg would hide a post.

Thanks for pointing that post out. I have added a plus to all negated comments there. It certainly does not help much, but I also want to make a point here.

  • +1

I'd rather remove anonymity from neg votes

  • +2

Still can't negative vote after revoking a positive vote on a deal…

    Still waiting…

  • +2

    Should display usernames for negs.

Then we can really see who the dumbarses around here are 😜
