    • What the heck is 'unethical' about investing in fossil fuels?

      • Your A.I friend said;

Investing in fossil fuels is considered unethical by some because of the environmental impact of burning fossil fuels. When fossil fuels are burned, they release greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change, which can lead to droughts, floods, extreme weather, and other adverse effects ¹. Many countries are questioning the ethical use of fossil fuels, considering climate change is primarily due to greenhouse gas emissions. Many leaders are removing subsidies for fossil fuel companies, pushing against offshore drilling, and divesting from fossil fuel projects like pipelines and refineries ⁶. By investing in or lending money to the fossil fuels industry, these unethical banks are funding the continued mining and burning of oil, coal, and gas ¹.

In addition, fossil fuels are a finite resource, and their extraction can have negative impacts on the environment and local communities. Extracting fossil fuels can lead to habitat destruction, water pollution, and other environmental damage ³.

It is important to note that not everyone agrees that investing in fossil fuels is unethical. Some argue that fossil fuels are essential to modern life and that divesting from fossil fuels could have negative economic consequences ³. However, many people believe that investing in renewable energy sources is a more ethical and sustainable choice ¹⁶.

I hope this helps clarify why some people consider investing in fossil fuels unethical.

I have the Macquarie Debit Card and no issues using it overseas.

    • So no transaction fees when shopping from .com?

      • No

  • HSBC

    • Which HSBC account you are referring to? I just spent $430 and was charged $452 with the conversion and also foreign exchange fees. Almost 5% in fees

      • 5% is not normal. 3.3% is typically the maximum. Did you choose to convert to AUD on the foreign vendor's site, which was then subject to a foreign merchant fee as well? That's the biggest trap when you select to be billed in AUD and still end up paying a foreign merchant/FX charge.

      • It's called HSBC Global debit card. You get 2% cashback on domestic paywave only and transactions under $100 and no fees for international transaction.

Macquarie debit account. I use it for Spotify and youtube with no fees.

  • CashPassport Platinum Mastercard.

No transaction fees, international or otherwise, except for ATM withdrawals. You pay a 0.5% card load fee to put money into it, then pay their exchange rate to convert what you have in it into whatever currency you want to spend in. If I understand correctly.

    • pay their exchange rate

      stay away!

  • Use Wise Money card. No transaction fees and good exchange rate. You can reload in AUD and they will do the conversion.

    https://wise.com/au/travel-money/travel-money-card

    • That's not really the full story with Wise is it?

1.75% of the amount over 350 AUD (per month) for example.

  • When I'm overseas i use ubank. Up bank and wise. All have no fees. I just transfer funds from my comonwewlth bank account to them if they need to be topped up
