  • Not the lowest price. and delivery kills for outside NSW.

It was $206.10 last week during TGG 10% off sale with 15% cashback $31.23 from shopback = $174.87
TGG's server was slow during the sale and seems like there will be a make up deal very soon to compensate that.
I am going to wait for that and buy a few more.

    • Its already OOS, but you also dont get cashback on GST. So $27.82 does make it technically still the lowest.

      • I bought one and the cashback I received is $31.23.
plenty of stock at TGG and even if it's OOS for C&C, shipping is only $3 VS BingLee $6.

Actually, you can stack the WELCOME20, so that makes it only $157.65.

  • Does anyone reckon a new model is coming soon?

    • Properly so as it's a 2021 model.
But still, new model will be much more expensive in the first 2 years of release
so I am happy to get a few old ones at a much lower price.

      • +1

Im thinking of just grabbing some of the wired ones for $99, and mixing some battery ones if necessary.

        • Exactly. I bought 2 from Officeworks, price matched Optus =$94.05 and used 10% off ultimate gift card = $84.65 each. :)

        • Aren't the wired ones for indoors only?

          • @BargainMe: Yes but I think the indoor ones are the same unit, just without the plug. Still would work placing it under shelter, etc.

I just wanted to share my experience here that these cameras aren’t that good. Constantly says “unavailable or saving battery” despite being powered by mains.

That too I paired this with Nest Wifi which I thought would be a good pairing but clearly doesn’t have the same “ecosystem” compatibility like how Apple products seem to work seamlessly with one another.

    • +4

Sounds like you have a WiFi issue. I don't have any trouble like what you describe.

      • Could be. What router model have you got set up at home?

        • Synology RT6600ax.

    • Probably either the cable isn't connecting the camera properly hence low battery
or you need to restart your router and reconnect the camera to your wifi network.

  • Killer price, thanks. Got another one

  • Darn. Purchased 2 last night with the $20 welcome code discount.

  • Sold out while I was checking out!

  • Is it 3 hours to look back of footage or just the 3 hour window?

    • 3 hours of recorded footage, I believe it used to be 3 hour window but has been changed since as I can see footage from last week, etc.

      • is that require payment or free to get the 3h footage recording?

        also how it works?
does it record only when there is someone at the door
and total will 3 hrs worth of recording over how many weeks?

and how does it record new footage while delete older one so that it stays within the 3hr?

All footage is viewed within the google home app?

        • Free to get 3 hours.

So each event will record say 30s to 2mins of footage.

You will get up to 180 minutes of saved footage, how long this lasts depends on how active your area is. Google will filter out 'out of zone' events and not really save them, so only people who walk up to the door gets saved as events.

          Google Home App

          • @ATangk: how does deletion work?

since every day, people would come in out of the house
            it would record daily
so does it delete the oldest day worth of footage every new day?

so if you got 180 minutes of recordings filled up already
Tomorrow, the oldest recordings would now be gone/deleted (if oldest was like 7 days ago etc) ?
e.g. all recordings on 24/6/23 is now gone..

            In regards to 180mins
if example there is not much events recorded,
does that mean the oldest footage could be 4 weeks or more etc that is still viewable?

            In your own experience
how many days (roughly) of recorded footage do you get from 180 mins ?

            • @pinkybrain: It will only record maybe 20s if theyre in and out quick. Maybe 1m per person if theyre fiddling with keys. Times however many people go in and out, then just guess how many. If you enter through the garage, it would be much less.

At least a month I'd hazard as a guess.

              And itll delete oldest footage.

              • @ATangk:

                And itll delete oldest footage.

so it deletes one recording at a time rather than a days worth of recording (once the 180 mins is filled up)?

At least a month I'd hazard as a guess.

not bad if this is the case..
What is the cloud payment thing about?

I think read some a while back it is not as good with it.

                ===
do you own Google Nest Doorbell or Google Nest Cam?

do you prefer google (and why?)
over just buying a imou or whatever camera
and letting it record as long as you want on your own local storage (blue iris etc) or microsd card?

                • +1

@pinkybrain: It used to be only 3 hours since the footage(i.e. footage since 9:40pm) , but now it is 3 hours of footage (as explained above).

Google has the AI built in so it recognises parcels/people with parcels, and also will tell me when the parcels are taken. Even without me having to look at the footage. So the doorbell is a nice piece of kit.

                  • +1

@ATangk: No it's not 3 hours long of video. False info.

Once event is recorded, it is kept for 3 hours then deleted by itself.
The event is max 3mins per recording. You can set the length of recordings in Google Home app.
The more you record, that faster its battery goes flat, of course.
If you pay $9/m or $90/year, the event record will be kept for 30 days.
                    https://store.google.com/au/product/nest_aware?hl=en-GB&pli=…

I guess you probably started a free trial accedentially hence you get 30 days of event recordings.

                    • @TanedaR: Confirming it will auto delete videos that are older than 3 hours. Got a series of Google Cams around the house, and no longer on the Nest Aware subscription though might reactivate shortly.

                    • @TanedaR: If that’s true I’m going to be so disappointed. Don’t remember going for any trial.

                • +1

@pinkybrain: I have a few Google Nest Cam.
I chose Google because all others Chinese brands/ OEMs can be easily hacked, or backdoor is opened to Chinese gov/CCP by default.
                  https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-65975446

That left not much of choice but Google Nest or Amazon Ring. I guess the 2 gaints can protect me from 99.9% of hackers?
Amazon Ring is worse than Google Nest because without subscription, you can only view live footage, at least Google gives you a 3 hour window to download the video.
I only need to download a video occasionally because I live in a quiet street in a safe middle class suburb.
I do often travel, so I will just pay $9/m when no one is at home and cancel it when I'm back.

Also I hate Apple products, Nest cam perform better on my andriod devices than Ring. i.e. faster notification etc.

                  • @TanedaR: yeah I read a long while back something about needing to pay google for the recordings to be any useful..

3 hr is just too short and unrealistic for most people.
it is about as good as just only being able to view live camera of the ring.
if something occurred at 7am or whatever time, if you review footage at 10.01am or 3hr later, then you got nothing to see.

Most people are not going to be constantly monitoring their camera every hour etc…
so you don't know when the events could occur so you will end up with no footage when looking back.

And you could be a sleep, or have notifications turn off
or you don't bother looking at notifications all the time (e.g working)
so you will miss the footages

I chose Google because all others Chinese brands/ OEMs can be easily hacked, or backdoor is opened to Chinese gov/CCP by default.

this is more bigger concern for government employees or VIP
most people probably not gonna be a big target
and don't put camera inside your home if you are that concern about this.

Also with tech everywhere (smart speakers/display, phones),
you gonna be monitored by some company anyway
Or your data gets leaked by one of the big companies or government that have your personal info.
All the free services that you use are using your data and tracking you.

People also freely post on social media alot of their lives anyway
and store their photos on the cloud or social media etc..

At this point, the only way to maintain privacy is to not have any tech
                    and turn off the internet.

                    $9/m

                    $108/yr
this is not financially good for many people, even more so now with inflation and rising cost of everything.

                    The imou, reolink cameras
can just record to blue iris and you block their apps or cloud feature if you are concern..

Can also view footage from many weeks ago in blue iris etc..

Looks like the Google camera option is just too expensive to buy
                    and to keep using

                    • @pinkybrain: It's $9/m or $90/year, you pay 10m and get 12m.

don't put camera inside your home

Sometimes there is a need of a indoor camera, i.e. monitoring infants, pets or elderly.

most people probably not gonna be a big target

                      not really.
Look at optus and medibank. The victims are average Australian like you and me.

Another example, back in 2021 in South Korea, some hackers had distributed photo and video files from the smart home security devices of over 700 apartment complexes.
                      https://www.digitaltrends.com/home/south-korea-smart-home-se…

I don't want a naked video of myself or family member being spread in the dark web then receive an email asking for bitcoin payment.
So I only choose a brand that is willing to regularly push security update.
It's not funny to purchase a security camera but itself become the most unsecured thing in my home.
Chinese brands are just not trustworthy when it comes to privacy.

                      • @TanedaR:

Look at optus and medibank. The victims are average Australian like you and me.

I think we to need differentiate the two types of hacking here..

                        1) CCP government
                        2) Hackers trying to get financial gain

                        1) CCP government

To date, there has not being any news reports of CCP using your security camera footage to do anything with it that is your main concern.
Even if they can view your cameras, the odds that CCP specifically targeting you is very low/unlikely since you are a nobody.
CCP would be target high ranking government people or defense workers for spying purpose..

Even if they do have backdoor,
to date, what have they done with your data or think they are doing with it?
Are you a high profile person or chinese dissident that should be concern about this?

                        2) Hackers doing it for financial gain
This type of hacking has occur many times as shown in the news,
and it has occur by targeting the actual companies that hold your personal data.
So they can demand money from those companies or sell your personal info on the darkweb.

So your concern about Chinese brands/ OEMs can be easily hacked, or backdoor is opened to Chinese gov/CCP by default has not actually resulted in anything that has happen to the average consumer who owns these chinese cameras.

What has actually happen that we know of are the security breaches of those Australian businesses etc that got hacked rather than someone personally as a result of a chinese security camera.

Sometimes there is a need of a indoor camera, i.e. monitoring infants, pets or elderly.
I don't want a naked video of myself or family member being spread in the dark web then receive an email asking for bitcoin payment.
Chinese brands are just not trustworthy when it comes to privacy.

This would go back to common sense whether it is chinese camera or google camera.
Don't put the cameras where it could record you in compromising situations.

There are many people who don't put a google nest hub max in their room cos of concern that is able to be viewed/record by google.

Are you less concern/don't care about being naked in front of your Google camera
which could be viewed/recorded by some Google employee just cos it is not Chinese made?

Have you seen the Snowden movie?
It showed that USA government / NSA employees could view/listen to any cameras you own in your home (from laptop, mobile phone, security cameras).
You pretty much should cover every camera in your home cos it can all be access by any NSA employee or even hackers.
Even Mark Zuckerberg covers his webcam.

Are okay about the USA government being able to do this but not okay with the CCP doing this?

Not saying the CCP is good or anything
but just accepting this is the reality of this tech world.

Whether CCP, USA government, facebook, google, microsoft, australian government or australian businesses
They are all storing your personal data.

If you are truly concern about privacy then you should not own any tech items ie phones, pc, cameras, use the internet

  • Hi. I purchased the doorbell at mid-night. However I haven’t received any email from binglee. Any one have same experience?

    • Took me over 6 hrs to get the email. 3:30am.
