    $218 was all time low

    How is the device running
some people saying it has lots of ads with the update

    • I did an update back in 2021. Haven't accepted any other updates. Does everything i need perfectly. From running Dolby Vision, Atmos, DTS-X, etc. No need to update and risk having issues. Just like your TV. Dont update unless absolutely necessary. More chance of having problems than fixing them lol

    • I paid $299 in 2021. Device was fantastic for first year. Then this device is unusable. Unable to boot, froze if booted. Contact NVIDIA Customer care, they help me to do Fast boot up. They asked me disable CEC settings on the first time. Few weeks later same thing happened. This time customer care wanted to sent it back for repair. Same device returned. Don't know what fixes they did. CEC not working again. Without CEC enabled, I have to use Remotes of TV, Shield and Denon AVR. It is annoying but works. Shield in connected to AVR. Every time Denon AVR says Shield HDMI source is not available. After a power cycle of Shield, it is get connected. Now I gave up with this device and bought a ATV from the last deal.

    • The standard Google launcher has annoying ads. Install a custom launcher and you’re good to go. I can recommend FLauncher.

I use it for Kodi, Kayo (recent installs with v2), Spark Sports, NORD VPN. Streaming and playback is great. Wakes up and starts quickly. Much better than my Xiaomi Mibox before it. My LG TV remote can even control the Shield.

  • I get the message unable to apply code for both codes

Edit: looks like it's now solved

Mine has serious Wifi problem. Kodi or other player stop playback frequently. No problem with ethernet. My other older Nvidia has no problem

I know it's getting long in the tooth but it's still quite the capable player. Definitely use it any day over the poorly-powered (Google) OS my TV is running.

This is my second one. Not because the one I have has failed, but because I need a player for a family member who watches a lot of stuff off HDDs and their current TV and such can't keep up playing the latest stuff (re: codecs and formats and what-have-you). This is perfect for them and this is a price I'm more than happy about (then Amazon will price match or something and I'm out of pocket $6 delivery lol - as always). Thanks for the post, OP!

Thanks. Been looking for one of these below the $250 mark for ages!

    • $249 was the normal price back in 2022, what did it jump to?

You can install a custom launcher which has no ads on the home screen and looks better anyway:

I use FLauncher from the Google Play store. Definitely worth installing a custom launcher.

  • What are the chances nVidia release a new model?

    • +1

about as good as when Nintendo releases the switch 2

You get a free one with Half Life 3

    • There is more talk about discontinuing the product. Rather focus on higher margin products with chip shortages.

      • Are they trying to be hated?

        • They did pretty well without trying

        • Yes
