New Car Service - Diesel - Why so expensive?

Any suggestions re getting the car serviced NOT from the car dealer? I have been told that a 30000 Kms service for a Holden Cruze (Diesel) is going to cost ~550.00 given it takes some Synthetic oil..(load of crap)….

My question is (if I may ask)..
- is it mandatory to get the car serviced via authorized dealer ?
- it would be cheaper to shop around and get the car serviced if it doesn't void' new car warranty?
- any good place to get car services in Greensborough area?

Cheers

you don't have to go to the holden dealer to get it serviced. Diesel cars normally cost more to service- http://www.carsguide.com.au/news-and-reviews/car-news/high_d…

+1, OP double check with holden 1st.

But should be the case. I was told Dealers couldnt void warranty if you get your car serviced elsewhere as it counts as monopolistic.

As madmouse said, usually if you don't get it serviced by authorized mechanics it voids your new car warranty.

    Double check with Holden.

I'm pretty sure that's not what madmouse said.

Get it serviced elsewhere if you can find a local mechanic to trust.

Not true. The ACCC came down heavily on this a few years ago. You can get it serviced at any licenced mechanic and it will not void your warranty.

If you do it yourself and you are not licenced, it voids the warranty

I drive a diesel and I buy all of the parts for a service and take it to my local mechanic - works out a hell of a lot cheaper then taking it to the stealership!

      lol stealership

    • Do you also make sure that the local mechanic do use the parts you purchased instead of his own cheaper aftermarket parts?

  • Check here for fixed price logbook service compare!

    http://www.fixedpricecarservice.com.au/

$288 near me for 30K diesel

    • Thanks heaps…..I will book it from them first thing tomorrow morning. Much appreciated.

    • This doesn't list some local mechanics that may be cheaper than doing it through that site, good as a comparison though.

  • I thought it did void the warranty if you didn't go dealer. But don't listen to me, everyone says otherwise so i'm going to go with the flow.

No, that's just what they'd like you to believe.

  • As long as the mechanic can service and stamp your logbook, it should be ok. Make sure the mechanic is authorised for Holden Logbook service.

Geez thats a lot. Even our Mercedes Benz Diesel only costs $360 for a Dealer service including 8 litres of the top shelf Mobil 1 0W-40.

So maybe you should try your local Mercedes dealer lol, I'm sure the Cruise takes only half the oil our ML270 does.
