Long Lasting Men's Leather Shoes (Best Value)

After best value dress shoes for work (office)?
Currently wear Florishams and they seem like decent vale but I am wearing them out pretty quickly still. After doing some research I think I need to get 2 pairs and rotate them apparently if you want them to last. So I will start trying to do that as I currently wear the same ones every day and generally last around a year before some part fails.
I would prefer to spend more if it means they will last many years. However the ones I can find that people say will last a decade or more are $600 plus.
Are Florishams one of the best vale for reasonable quality before jumping to ridiculous amounts?
Recommendations woud be great.
Also anyone that has just bitten the bullet and spent ridiculous amounts and found it to be better value in the long run.
Cheers

    • Yea my hush puppy boots that I bought on here for $50 6 years ago are still going strong.

Shoes are like clothes, you wouldn't wear one suit every day for a year. They need rotation, natural fibres cooling down.

I always give the advice if you wore a wool suit every work day for 10 weeks straight, it'd already be very punished. If you wore it once a week for a year it would be basically brand new. Shoes are no different. Try to aim for 2-3 pairs of what your budget allows. Even Florsheims at this range at a sale price will allow this. Rotate, rotate, rotate. Wear shoe 1, 2 then 3 over and over. Give the product time to air out, relax, moisture disappear and you will get so much more life out of them.

If you want a REALLY good shoe wardrobe, get a pair of RMs in brown, then a couple of pairs of Loakes. Get a day night sole on the loakes, or be sure to topy a leather soled one. With rotations and necessary repairs and polishing the shoes will outlive your Camry.

      Yep I agree.
The moral of the story is if you want your shoes to last a long time buy a reputable brand and spend $/time on maintaining them (rotate, polish, topy etc).
I will bet that even Florsheim with that kind of treatment will last a few years. (I use and abuse mine (5days a week, running, not lacing, no polish) and still get 12mts out of them)
However, I don't think you will find too many shoes no matter what the $$$ that you can abuse and not maintain. (even a Camry needs an oil change)

Bro. Just buy R&M, the black ones.

I’ve worn mine almost everyday for 5 years. Snow, mud. It’s all good.

I’m lazy and just wipe with water occasionally. It’s still soo good

On behalf of your boots pretty please just once in a while use some leather conditioner, they'll last longer and be more comfortable.

    • Why black over brown?

      • I have both and the black seems to last better.

Florsheims really lack durability. Hush puppies are much better built and similar price range.

I havent' found a decent mainstream brand other than when you get Docs or Timberland shoes suitable for work.
Other than that all the stuff like Florsheim, Aquilla, Julius marlow etc seem to just be rubbish that falls apart easily ..

Red Wing Iron Ranger. Would get minimum 5 years, more likely more, possible close to 10. I have been wearing one pair almost daily since about 2017 and still going strong

I have 2 pairs of flourishem shoes. One black and one brown; both have leather soles. I wear them about twice a week and have so far about 5 to 6 years. Re-soled about every year or two. Still have them.
You just need to take care of the leather and apply leather balm not colour every week.

Got 2 pairs from Herring Shoes in the UK, Goodyear welted, paid around $350 a pair 4 years ago. Recently replaced the Dainite heels for $90. Still in excel condition. I am confident these will last me another 3 years easily with maybe another heel replacement. So overall costs for 7 years is $550 a pair, and I’m quite confident they will last longer than that.

I alternate the 2 pairs, and with occasional polishing they look very good.

    • Where did you get the Diante heels done? And were they an original Diante brand replacement?

      • +1

Baxter & Black in Newtown Sydney. Yes they were original Dainite heels.

        • Thanks, great to know! I have two pairs of shoes that will need resoling soonish and have struggled to find a place in Sydney that doesn't cost a lot

Interesting about the price as the site quotes $250 for a diante sole replacement. Did you pay $90 for the sole and DIY / got it replaced elsewhere or was it $90 to resole including labour?

@Gunnar: Ah the $90 was just the heels. The whole sole will be more expensive.

            • @jjjia: Ah yes you did say that in your post, apologies.

I saw $90 and Diante so got excited that the sole could be replaced for $90

I had a pair of Floresheim's and so did many other Casino workers I know. I had mine for 3 years and they held up very well. Constantly standing and leaning but still comfy and didn't wear.

Bought a pair of Rossi boots a couple of years ago for work, I can only say good things about them.

These look nice and use a Goodyear welt construction.

    • Seems like a decent alternative to ozbargain favourite RMWs.

Meermin are a Spanish company that moved manufacturing to China and offer shoes in the $300-$350 range.
full grain leather and good year welted so will last. best bang for buck I think

    • Dam, these do seem to fit the bill well, full grain and goodyear welt for $295. I think I might pull the trigger on these.

  • Wearing florsheim too and they are comfy. Had this for more than a year and need to sewn on the sides as the threads gave in on both. They are cheap so i dont expect to last this long . Also soles are rubber. Been looking to buy this pair again but this looks like an old design so unavailable.
