      worth more 20USD

      It doesn't include tips

if so fly with more premium airlines and have 5 hrs of layover at your own expense.

true ozbagainer never complains about freebies

      • You will be fully fed on premium airlines. No need for food voucher.

I can’t see how a couple of vouchers can entice me to have an extended transit time.

    • How about if they threw in a couple of beers as well.

For 5 hours or more, I strongly suggest going to one of many airport lounges.

For $59 AUD pp (5 hours = $11.8 per hour) you can get access to the Le Saigonnais International Business lounge. https://sascobusinesslounge.com/en/product/le-saigonnais-int…

      Do they accept these vouchers?

For 2 hours or more, Westpac gives you free lounges including in HAN and SGN. Link

Thats if your flight is delayed, if its not you cant use this

I was there last week and the conditions state max 3 hours but it is still worth it.

Local beers and spirits, pho, toasties and some mixed rice dishes. All pretty good and you will more that likely spend that kind of money outside the lounge with beer st USD$6 and burger king at around USD$20 for a meal.

  • Thanks OP.

I booked my wife and kids on this for Dec with a sleepzone at SGN. Hopefully they can use this to extend for an hour or have some food
    .

Btw, this airline does not allow a stopover in sgn, despite first consultant telling us we could change one leg after booking. Not ideal, but they are very cheap

Party at your place this Xmas?

    • Hi @AG_ACT, Is there any Hotel accomodation in SGN? There's a 12hr transit in SGN. When I searched for Airport hotel, the hotels are all outside of the airport.

      • Only sleeping pods as far as I can tell

  • Perfect, thanks OP! These will come in handy

everything is way overprice in Tan Son Nhat airport compared to average price outside so $20usd does not even cover 2 meals

    • +1

It was around $20usd for one meal at the Burger King, so expensive.

Couldn't agree more. I went through there last week after a month in Vietnam and it took a few minutes to realise everything was in USD. My brain couldn't process that a bowl of pho could be 10 USD as opposed to 2 AUD outside. Burger King was insane, everything was just utterly ridiculous. Also there are no water fountains inside the terminal and even if there was you can't take water into the Australian departure gate so you're forced to pay through the nose for water bottles as well.

      • Can confirm, was my experience too. Didn't help that the flight was delayed by 2 hours with zero announcements (not sure if that was an airline or airport responsibility). Was absolutely thirsty by the time they served water on the flight.

      • I'd also love to know the reason as to why you can't take any water into those gates, I think it's 26 and 27 maybe. I mean you've gone through security and ditched any outside water there already.

      Thanks for posting.

Yes, I was caught out by this as well. pho was us$2 in the checkin hall and then us$10 passed customs. passed customs they only accept usd. I ended up paying us$20 for a whopper meal. This is definitely a good deal if you are transiting or just want something more substantial before your Jetstar chicken rice.

      • C'noath. You would think the airport is owned by Mac Bank or private equity with those prices, but instead it's owned by the vietnamese government.

        • corruption government , it is run by whoever pays them to run the place so that they can set whatever price they want…

      • I have paid in VND every time I've transmitted through SGN - so it's not true that they only accept USD. Just ask them to pay in VND and they tell you the cost.

        • I'm sure you can too, although personally I couldn't bring myself to pay that kind of money for a meal or a drink.

  • Recap of today:
It took exactly 90 minutes for someone to bring the vouchers. Not that I mind sitting around when waiting in transit anyways, but an hour and a half, really….

Also, you can’t combine vouchers. We wanted to buy stuff for $39 with four vouchers but you could only redeem one at a time so no chance of getting combos/meal deals etc.

Free money is free money, but that was annoying

  • Am I eligible if I buy separate tickets?
