    Finally !

    • +1

Time to load the freezer ?

      • +6

Just purged the chest freezer to make room. Now to invest in a large battery so I don't lose my retirement cream next time our overpriced underperforming power network fails.

        • +1

Cannot tell if genius or troll.

    • -4

It's rubbish and still overpriced at $6

      • +5

Yeah it is, but it fulfills my ice cream cravings.

        What's your recommendation though?

          • +5

@nubzy: I don't rate haagen tbh, probably the cost. I'll eat it, but never buy cos just don't see the value haha

Haven't tried the other two, I'll have a look around.

        • +5

"Lick" if you can get it in your area. It's on a completely different level. It's like nothing I've ever had before, except perhaps ice-cream from a fine dining restaurant. It's expensive at $15 a litre but unless you eat ice-cream every day the cost is justified.

Their condensed milk flavour is one of my favourites. The chocolate one is good too. It comes down to personal preference though. I haven't tried them all. Different deli's will choose to stock different flavours.

The days of stocking up on Connoisseur are behind me.

          • +2

@bataleon: I'll have a look for lick, cheers for the recommendation

        • +2

          Bulla Murray Street vanilla

          Sara Lee chocolate.

        • +6

Ok hear me out, Kapiti Vanilla Bean Ice Cream from Aldi. Try it and come back and tell me.

          • +1

@rsop: I'm down with Aldi shopping, just bought ice cream from them yesterday, indulge vanilla caramel chocolate fudge or something. Satisfying me so far.

I'll give that a whirl next time I'm in there for sure

          • +1

@rsop: I tried Kapiti from Aldi, quite good.

      • +5

Cookies and cream is still solid

        • Nah. Super airy and average. This stuff is fake premium.

          • +6

@nubzy: The way I look at it, it stops me wanting/going to places like Messina and spending a LOT more, hence I am ok to pay this…

      • +8

        Nah the vanilla is good

        • +4

          Honey Macadamia. Wow every time.

      • You’re right, I had a vanilla recently and it was pretty bad. It was super sweet and reminded me of al cheapo stuff. I was so unimpressed that I was going to take it back, but the side of the tub didn’t have that usual “if you’re not 100% satisfied, take it back” guarantee. Maybe they know. It’s supposed to be a premium ice cream.

        2.6 stars on Product Review.

      • +1

Yeh the quality had gone down a fair bit over the years. I've just gone back to bulla from all the "premium" brands recently, it's no longer any worse and you get more in the tub.

      • Rubbish? Some of dem favours pretty good Sir!

How do you find it rubbish? And what is at the top of your pile?

  • +5

Their peanut butter is hands down amazeballs. I'm allergic to it but I'll still eat whilst leading to the shitter after 15 mins. Still got 6 tubs in the work freezer left from last deal.

    • How does it compare to their Belgian Chocolate?

    • Ooh.. Hard for me to go past hazelnut or cookies and cream but this might do it.

  • +13

i remember when these were 50% off at $4.5 :(

    • Good memory.

    • +10

My stomach is also a victim of inflation.

      • +5

Is it a victim of hyper inflation? 😂

    • +1

      Not that long ago too.

  • Is this the one that offers something like vegan super ultra chocolate? I can see Connoisseur Plant Based Hazelnut Chocolate Ice Cream Tub 1l which I'll be happy to try if my local (small) Coles stocks.

  • +1

Tried the new peanut butter and was impressed, can’t seem to find the Matcha anymore - it was my favourite.

    • try some Coles stores - matcha use to be a Coles exclusive flavour until Woolies got some stock

  • I also like to the peanut butter flavour, a winner

  • +1

    caramel macadamia for the win

  • What is people's consumption per sitting avg? Anyone get a whole tub down in one hit?

    • The female population

  • +2

Remember when this was the normal price?

    • +2

You came from a Hungry Jacks thread didn't you?

  • +1

There is so many to choose from and I forgot what were the good flavours. If I recall, the best flavours to me ranked are:

    1. Matcha Green Tea With White Choc (Only sold by Coles)

    2. Raspberry White Chocolate (May be too sweet for some)

    3. Cookies & Cream

    4. Caramel Honey Macadamia

    5. Cafe Grande

    6. Chocolate Brownie

    7. Murray River Salted Caramel

    8. Butterscotch & Gingerbread (Tasted like Gingerbread but not my cup of tea)

Need to try Vanilla Caramel Brownie, Classic Vanilla, Belgian Chocolate, Mint with Cookies & Plant Based Hazelnut Chocolate.

Coles exclusively has the Peanut Butter one which is highly appraised in the thread so most looking forward to that

    • Yeah I was about to say, I don't think Woolies have the peanut butter.

      • Actually I went today and got one from Woolies. It wasn’t in their “display” freezer for sale items but where they normally would be. Will be trying it soon

        • Got a receipt? It's not on their website and I went to two local woolies and didn't see it. Will look again.

          • @dinglejerry: I may have chucked it away but I will check when I get home. If that is the case, it is probably only my local Woolies

            • @FrugalFindsDownUnder: Yeah don’t have it, sorry

              • @FrugalFindsDownUnder: You sure you not getting confused with coles ;-)

Woolies as far as I can see definitely aren't stocking them ! Which sucks for this special

                • @dinglejerry: Nah, if it was Coles, I would’ve paid $12 for them. They only had a few and had a bunch of ice on them, maybe it was old stock. I guess you have to wait for Coles to put them on sale sadly

I checked my bin and bag for the receipt but I think I replaced it already.

I myself aren’t a fan of peanut butter but have to say, it has a very good and deep peanut butter flavour. The crunch also adds to it, would put it above cookies and cream

    • +3

Murray River Salted Caramel is pretty solid

      • I probably misjudged it, I don’t clearly recall its flavour

    • Vanilla Caramel Brownie is very average. The icecream is so airy compared to the other flavours, and the brownie is vaguely chocolate flavoured mush.

  • +2

Woolies standard prices are becoming a joke. When my local chinese grocery store sells a 2L bottle of the same milk for 25% less than Woolies it tells me all i need to know about Woolies profit margins during the cost of living crisis. The joke is on consumers.

  • My 3 absolute favorites are (in order):

    • Raspberry White Chocolate
    • Murray River Salted Caramel
    • Belgian Chocolate

In answer to the question "Anyone get a whole tub down in one hit?".

    • sadly, yes I can (& always seem to these days) indeed manage a whole 1 litre in one sitting
    • I use to be able to confine myself to just eat half
    • but now even if I decide ahead that I'm only going to eat half, by the time I get to the stop point, the second half of the ice cream has melted a bit & it gets even yummier
    • I go back for "just one more spoonful", but I'm sure you can guess how that works out for me

    • I'll absolutely only buy these when their half-price & stock the freezer with those 3 flavors.

    • I try to eat Keto these days (lost 20kgs), and this is gonna set me back for a while
  • I tried the Plant Based Hazelnut Chocolate. It's okay, but far from the best non-dairy ice cream I have tried. I'll buy some instant coffee tomorrow and mix some of that and raw coco powder into it. It will taste amazing!

    • Which was the best non-dairy ice cream? I haven't found any yet that beats dairy

      • I can not remember the name of it. I have tried to find it, but had no luck.

        • No worries

  • where is Barossa Valley Merlot Blackberry & Cookie

  • For being a dairy country with good quality control regulations and what not. It still baffles me that we cannot mass produce good Ice Cream to the level of what they have in the USA such as Ben & Jerry's and Haagen Dazs. Heck, if anyone's been to the USA, even their non-premium Breyers line is better than anything we make here.

    • Ben & Jerry's and Haagen Dazs

Sadly those are now both low quality trash excuses for ice cream, trading on their name from a decade or so ago when they used to once make real ice cream.

      • sorry, they are the best we have in terms of mass-produced supermarket ice cream. Not counting sometimes obscure independent ones you can get in maybe some IGA, some of which ive tried and are better than usual but still not great anyway.

        • Even Aldi's stuff is better than those two ridiculously priced excuses for imitation ice cream.

          • @infinite: Really isnt. straight off the bat the texture is all wrong, theres no need to even go through the flavours. You probably just didnt grow up with quality ice cream. The closest we've gotten to good ice cream here is maybe the coles premium line (in some flavours), but i think they stopped producing it, and connoisseurs vanilla is actually pretty good, not sure why they cannot replicate that same quality with their other flavours.

As for the price, it's just an unfortunate cost of importation, which is why im emphasizing why Australia cannot make good mass produced ice cream.

The only regret here is B&J and Haagen Dazs release very few flavours here and most of them are along the lines of caramel something. That's the issue when you're not really a food country, the palate here is narrow.

            • @Romiyo: Sounds like you've never had real ice cream before.

              • @infinite: lol, ive mentioned mass produced supermarket sold numerous times for a reason. Virtually every ice cream shop in Australia will make a better ice cream than B&J and Haagen Dazs, but im not talking about them.
