TV Return - Dead Pixels?

Hey all,

I bit the bullet yesterday and got myself a new TV. Upon delivery today and finally setting it up tonight there is a weird set of what I think are dead pixels. In the top corner of the screen are a bunch of always red pixels that spell out something like 'R1 6655'. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

I'd only heard of dead pixels being random but having them as numbers is a new one for me. I'm going to call the shop tomorrow and ask about returns etc as I don't think this is a normal thing but thought I'd share if anyone else has seen this before or if it does seem like a defect in the panel or something?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this one!

EDIT: Photo of the pixels. https://imgur.com/a/TiD9GwP
Apologies for the quality was very hard to get something!

FINAL EDIT: I'll leave this up hoping people find a laugh out of this one. I didn't take off the final screen protector film that had these numbers printed on it… Just give me the dunce cap already and I'll happy put my mitt up to cop any well deserved heat on this!

Thanks to all who replied:)

      Dead screen protector

Best screen protector - almost undetectable except for the imprinted code mistaken for dead pixels.

        • I would have left it on to keep the screen new and clean.

@jv: lol - reminds me of those American sitcoms where the couch is encased in plastic to forever preserve the fabric underneath yet stuff the comfort factor for the humans.

I think the film would have lifted around the edges after a while especially when using a duster over it & a bit of humidity.

Got a picture? I wouldn't have thought dead pixels would spell something out.

    • Sorry for the blurry-ness of it. Here's a link: https://imgur.com/a/TiD9GwP
I agree it's an odd one having the pixels like this. It's definitely got '1 R1 5 5 9 9' in always red pixels no matter whats playing on it. So weird!

      • Not an expert, but dead pixels would be black.

Have you tried factory resetting like @CodeXD said

        • Good call! Yep, that's my next move now to try that out!

That actually looks like burn in. Are you sure it is brand new? Not ex-display?

        • Yep, brand new straight from the warehouse. It's a mini LED panel too so unsure if that's susceptible to burn in?

have you taken off the screen protector film OP? Should be obvious around the screen edges if there is one, don't force anything

I took the tape of the frame but completely missed the screen protector film…

          Good God.
Can we just hand me the award for dumbass of the year already?
Time to put my tail between my legs and curl up for a week.

I would suggest factory reset the TV first and see if it removes the red letters.

    • yeah this. Sounds like OP might be seeing a firmware version number or something.

    • Thanks for the advice, I'll have a look into this and see how it goes!

  • LOL. Made me laugh> thx.

That screen protector must have been slick.Enjoy the new, newly discovered TV. Try not to flense off the real screen.

Glad it worked out for you. Remember, laughter is the best medicine! And being able to laugh at yourself once in a while is very healthy.

To make you feel better the photo looks exactly like a pixel trying and failing to produce a colour!
