Market Like Queen Victoria Market in Sydney?

Hey guys,

In Melbourne, there is a market like Queen Victoria Market where I used to go to buy fruits in bulk in cheap price. Is there such market like it in Sydney, especially Western Sydney? Need to buy fruits like pineapple, cherries etc in bulk.

Thanks.

Flemington is best to go on Saturday where it's jammed pack with produces. Any other day is just a lot less.

        • Oh - there were quite a lot of produce sellers there, both inside and outside & heaps of customers too. This was years ago though, BC.

I actually went to the organic store near there & one of the customers mentioned that they were headed to the markets as some of the produce had already sold out in store so I thought why not? Parking was chaos. I wish I had walked from the store.

I went last Saturday (before 8am) it's always an experience.

Small quantities aren't vastly cheaper than a good fruit& veg shop, although I did get broccoli for $2/kg and table grapes 2kg for $5.

      In bulk though:
      5kg of Figs for $32,
10kg of brushed potatoes for $5 (sold out when I was walking past), there was a seller with about the same size of sweet potato for the same price.
      Oranges were $8-$12 for a 15kg box.

    Parklea

  • Cherries are not in season atm so you'll only have the imported & sprayed with chemicals kind to choose from.

Look up your nearest Farmers Market - most of them have a website (if only FB) with the stallholders details that you can contact for ordering & pick up on the market day.

    • You can get frozen cherries. Doesn't taste the same, but the option is there.

      • OK in smoothies, along with frozen blueberries however taste is definitely bland-er vs fresh.

@[Deactivated]: Because they don't like pineapple pizza?

            • @JIMB0: lol - I tried that argument with the parentals over spinach soup.

I would too if my pizza had such a sad amount of pineapple.

      • Ham and Cherry pizza? Gross..

        • Cherry and feta.

@Clear: If you eat too much, it will definitely make you feta

    Western Sydney

Just go to Cabramatta for your economical, low cost produce. The Asian groceries are always really competitive.

  • Queen Victoria market is over rated.

    • South Melbourne Market is better.
