I was really wanting to get this monitor but will skip it for reasons I personally find deal breakers for my use case scenario:

  1. The Tizen OS means this monitor has lost the ability to PBP and PIP, this is from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Rf5pAZGx3E
  2. One full size DP and HDMI each.
  3. 1800R curve. I personally prefer the more aggressive 1000R curve for such a large screen.

Edit: As per one of the comments below, this monitor may do PBP.

How have you been able to gain enough experience with different monitors to assess this?

Going to a gaming cafe or something?

"1800R curve. I personally prefer the more aggressive 1000R curve for such a large screen."

    • +6

49" at 1800R is a fairly wide thing on a desk and given the market for this being gaming the 1000R would have been a better bet but I would gues tech limitations made this compromise required.
I just wish they'd pull their fingers out and actually give us some news about the G95NC 57" Mini-LED as its a better deal for anyone who is using the monitor in a mixed use case compared to just gaming. OLED is amazing for gaming / media but awful(ly limited lifespan) for work where large parts of the display stays fairly static for long periods.

      • I'm just impressed you have this knowledge and experience!

I'm just searching for a 32" 4K USB-C hub for basic home stuff .. looks like the Dell u3223qe is the best .. stupidly I bought the same monitor in 27" less than a year ago which i regret.

        • +2

The sole advantage of spending too much time dealing with broken / not fit for purpose display tech and customers that are convinced that they need X when Y is what actually meets their requirements.

Keep an eye on the Dell Aus Factory outlet as they do come up fairly often, the Lenovo ThinkVision T32p-20 might suit your needs too if you can find one at the right price.

    • I had a neoG9 which was 1000R. Now sold it.
1000R was just right for me.
I haven't experienced 1800R on a 49 inch yet so I can't tell if it will work well.

    • +3

We have a mixture of 49 inch screen and two 27 inch desks at work. The 49 inch desk has the 1800R curve and when I use it I wished the curve was more aggressive.

But this is subjective and personal preference, you just have to walk around my office to see the huge variations on how people use their screens. Some prefer the two 27 inch desks with one portrait, or both in landscape "V" shape arrangement, some even move one 27 inch out the way and just use one screen, some prefer exclusive 49 inch desks, etc. So go try out any other 49 inch with 1800R or 1000R in a store that has it on display.

  • +1

Interesting its RRP is lower than Neo G9.

Bummer they made it 1800R. Will wait for a good LG 45" OLED deal or the G9 OLED with a better curve (hopefully next iteration)

Edit: Also on education store, same deal.

    • "hopefully next iteration"

how often do Samsung update their monitors?

      • +1

The G9s are refreshed like every year atm.

    • Thanks, updated to include education store in title.

    • good LG 45" OLED deal

That's an even worse prospect… look at the pixel density.

      • Ive read about it, want to see it in person before buying

  • +1

The odyssey neo g9 duel uhd 57 is where its at….

    • +1

At the current point any actual information on release timing or pricing on the 57" G95NC has been better controlled / more secured than US government TS/SCI documents recently…

      • Yeah i had a look today… all i could find was the release announcements back in jan. It's almost like it doesn't exist!

        • +1

Oh it exists but bets are on to see if Samsung or TLC CSOT will bring a retail unit to market first as the TCL CSOT model has been making the rounds in China.
Samsung don't like to to let everyone know but this product's (like many others) panels will be made by TCL CSOT after Samsung sold out of LCD tech entirely last year.

If only Samsung would take the Apple way on announcing products…

  • I recently bought an samsung s9 49 inch viewfinity monitor - was so careful installing it onto a monitor arm but still managed to crack the screen in the process - (did it as 2 man job, no drops or bumps) ….
not sure what to make of this..
are 49 inch screens just ridiculously delicate?
    are samsung screens rubbish?
did I get a bad egg that was too sensitive?
    was it me?
Have found samsung to be VERY unhelpful in the process (frustrating call centre / service centre charges just to assess if it can be fixed with no guarantees / service centre is a long drive away)
    - going to end up just throwing out the monitor and starting again.
either way - I dont think I would go back to samsung again
    - I am sure others have had better experiences with these screens - just feeling a bit burnt at the moment.

    • Sounds like you took reasonable care, but it is hard to prove. Don't throw it out until you have at least threatened to go to ACCC.

      • +1

I might try and call them again and give them one more chance - in the mean time - thought I would let people know my experiences with a screen from same company very similar to this…
If I was them - I would have helped me out - instead they have to deal with a grumpy customer sharing his experiences with others. (would post a photo of the screen but I dont think you can do that here)

        • +1

You can post and link to imgur OR My Account > Files and upload there. (Not sure if link will work for you)

          • +1

@sween64: Didn't realise this was a feature, thanks for sharing
(obviously you would have to replace the user ID in the link with your own)

          • @sween64: that's strange - there is no option of "files" anywhere…

      • +1
    • That's awful. I hope it resolves in your favor, I would be shocked if it didn't.

That story makes me lose a lot of love for this screen.

      • +1

again - I have never dealt with a 49 inch screen before - so I am not sure what went wrong (I followed the pictures in the booklet re handling) - I am hoping this will get covered under insurance - but it's a serious pain to deal with - and really sad to look at the screen with a crack 1/4 of the way along and lots of lines …..
but as I said - was really unimpressed how samsung treated me and how little support I could get from their preferred service centre…

        • You sound like an honest person. I guess most OzB's would have claimed it was damaged from first opening…

Samsung have awful customer care. I had a TV with screen issues, had the screen replaced twice and still couldn't get a refund. I saw a total of 3 new screens and each had quality issues (very noticeable banding etc.). It wasn't until I called the ACCC and realised that the responsibility lay with the store I bought the TV from, I took that back to the store and got refund promptly. They were trying to fob me off back to a Samsung. Good lesson there!

Switched to LG since and it's been incredible. Not monitor related just awful Samsung experience.

      Wish you luck!

  • Can anybody recommend a monitor arm for such big monitors? I have a 43 inch Samsung M7 but can't seem to find a suitable monitor arm that doesn't cost more than $150

    • -1

Ergotron. But dont buy this monitor. Or anything from the samsung store. It will just break because its not designed properly.

      • 1+ from me (see above)

      • Dont know about that, mines fine*

*except the line on the screen but I bought it cheap as it had the line lols.

      • Yep Samsung make everything very cheaply. Plastic and flimsy. Charge the earth for for it too because they market themselves so highly. They usually look good, but specs on Samsung products are almost always less than others and they have really poor QC across the board. This ranges from TVs to Whitegoods. Samsung also has legendary status for how bad their customer support is. Then there's their firmware updates which brick their products and they have been fined millions every year for doing it on purpose

I’d love to buy this, but I don’t want to contribute to rising interest rates again.

      Thank you for your service

Juat check ultrawide reddit before you buy this pos.. same issues as every other 49inch they make. Getting warranty or refund from Samsung will be really hard.

Negging the deal because this monitor has design flaw that breaks the display.

Beware. I have had similar exp with samsung.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/14tetm…

    • The reddit post you linked was made a day ago but is for a Neo G9 which is not the same as this monitor. I was curious about your comment so I did a search of that thread but couldn't find any OLED G9 issues, what defects are people finding?

    • I've had a 49" CHG for few years now without any major issues. Minor issues are their flickery freesync (basically unusable, switched it off) and low number of FALD zones (wouldn't be an issue on OLED).

  • +1

Glad that the announced US MSRP for this was effectively a lie so they could promote a pre-order discount… the equivalent AU price would have been over $3600!

    • Thats what surprised me too.

      Maybe poor sales overall?

Maybe1800R not too popular esp if they are targetting the G9 owners who are used to 1000R

Maybe the 57" will be 2999? Its 1000R but crazy resolution with ports the 7900 xtx supports (DP 2.0) but not the 4090 (which could possibly run games at the resolution)

      Both skus are meh lol

Perfect monitor wouldve been 49" 1000R oled

      • It's not been released yet, monitor MSRP has traditionally had an early adopter pricing as manufacturing ramps.

Credit to Samsung for bucking the trend, even if it's due to a nascent technology.

The '8K' ultrawide is LCD and is pretty much as far as they'll push the technology, bar getting it up to 360-500Hz.

I'm not concerned with the curvature, it's more of a desk space concern for some.

      • 57" 1000R is crazy. Need to see it in person

  • I've had both the 1000R and 1800R versions of these monitors over the years before more recently moving to the 42 LG + side monitors. The 1000R is more immersive but didn't like it as much on the productivity side - either way at 49" you need a curve and you get use to both but I'm down they went with 1800 - more likely due to technical limitations of bending the oled I suspect.

I'm almost tempted to give it a crack as my main reason for moving away was the blacks and proper HDR of oled.

Surprised at the price, expected higher tbh.

Unsurprised reading that G9 series still suffering samsungs QC and luck seems to play a factor with these.

    • I'm almost tempted to give it a crack

I'd speak to dr_ rusko first if I was you!

    • Wait for OLED to hit 90% rec.2020 in this product class. Currently only the QD-OLED TVs manage it, not sure why Samsung have opted for this restriction in monitors.

I think there's a 48" 144Hz TV panel later this year, with maybe a 27" QHD 360Hz monitor next year. Hopefully the latter gets access to that extended colour gamut.

  • Have a 34" just for work, I open 2 windows using split screen. Will this be good if I open 3 windows?

    • Yep I use my 49" + fancyzones for three spreadsheets.

    • 49" is the same as two 27" monitors side by side

  • any 34 or 38 inch monitor that anyone recommend? Mainly for works and photo editing.

  • @TanTheMan it does do PBP, just needs multiple cables attached

  • Anyone know if you get the pre-order bonus available on the main (non edu) website if you order via the education store? I'm guessing no…

  • the monitor arrived today to replace my aw3423dw (sold it to a family member for $900) and really liking it so far. no cracks on the screen.
