Get the $19 Amazon Echo and plug it into these for the ultimate smart speaker!

    • Thats what I did for the dining room haha, just tell alexa to play songs. Although she has a hard time hearing when cooking or already playing music.

      FBI OPEN UP!!!!

        and Say… Ahh!

Doesn't look like there's a port on the read or sides, so unlike many bookshelf speakers you may actually be able to put this on a bookshelf. Would sound better on a desk or some kind of open stand, but will probably still sound good on a sturdy bookshelf.

  • Should wait for prime day or nah ya reckon

Centrecom have the R1380DB at $99 again too..
    https://www.centrecom.com.au/edifier-r1380db-bluetooth-51-pr…
I ordered mine earlier this week and they're set up and working fine

    • I got the 1380DB and it works nicely. I don't understand why would you buy R1280DB for $50 more?

  • +1

Aren't these basically the same as the 1280db (No Subwoofer out plug) and do go a bit cheaper. The 1380db were only $99 last week. Prime day might have some close to that price again.. But still not a bad price for excellent speakers.

    • are these truly any good

      4" woofers are eh….

  • +1

    another 4" woofer deal . …. where are the 6", 7", 8" deals ..,… 4" sound systems don't add much spacial.

    • +3

no one has desk space for that

    • +5

Still rocking my Microlab 6C speakers, must be getting close to a decade old. They take up a fair bit of desk real estate but I have grown used to them. 6.5" woofer and 1" tweeter. OzBargain sounds great on them!

    • Here you go: https://unityaudioproducts.co.uk/the-rock-3.php

I'm assuming of course you want the best sound quality one can get in a bookshelf.

    • Way better than tv speakers. What other systems are there with bigger woofers?

  • +4

Hey u . 4 inch def works . It's the quality of what's emitted from it . Thankyou very much sir/mam/he/she/underdisclosed etc whatever

    • +1

      i disagree with this

if your music is not bassy you can get away with it but box volume and the sheer small size of the woofer will limit even mid bass

hell i wasnt even all that happy with 5.5" speakers driven off a $2,000 amp but you're missing out so much from say 40-70hz

you can run tricks like bass boost and EQ but its always going to be a compromise but hey… if this all you heard then you're not missing out on what you dont know

      • Agreed. There are real limits imposed by driver size that cannot be magicked around.

Smaller drivers can still sound good overall, but bass quality (and quantity) just won't be there.

Edifier is good for general use (I have one too which is connected to my wife's livingroom tv) but if you are keen to try better audio you can give a try on professional gear like m-audio which isn't much expensive than you might think.

M-Audio BX3 D3 only cost you AUD 209 for a pair. It does not have bluetooth receiver nor subout port but it is a powered speaker so you dont need a separate amp.

Now this is already going to be impressive but you will still need to add a subwoofer to make it complete but you can do this later.

I use BX5 with 8 inch sub and I need to play at the lowest volume so if the use is desktop then BX3 should be more than sufficient.

    • Do you recommend the M-Audio BX3 D3 for use with a lounge TV?

Speakers on my Sony A1 are not great.

I use an Apple TV with it and wondering how to improve the audio without spending more than the cost of 2x Homepods.

I recently ordered the R1855DB from Amazon and was prepared to wait a bit over 3 weeks to get them then the shipping date was extended by another 5 weeks the day after they were supposed to arrive. Ended up canceling and buying from Centrecom for the same price. Waited 3 days for CnC at local store plus they were able to verify that stock was in the warehouse before ordering. BTW these have plenty of bass for my liking. Have at lowest setting and wouldn't mind if I could take if back a bit more. Quality is OK for the price you pay but nothing brilliant.

    • And I should have added that the 3 days was fine because the stock had to come from the warehouse to a regional store

MyDeal has refurbished R1280DBs in black & woodgrain for $99.99 + free shipping. Extra $10 off if you download and purchase through their app with first timer code SHOPAPP. They also have refurb R1280T, R1280Ts, R1290DB. Plus x3 Everyday Reward points if linked. https://www.mydeal.com.au/refurbished-edifier-r1280dbs-activ…

    • Seems like a great deal. Any idea if they do a decent job with the refurbs or is it going to turn up all scratched with dents in the speaker grills?

      • From the MyDeal website:

This device has been through a careful inspection and testing process, and is in As New Condition, without any visible sign of previous use anywhere on the device.

  • Maybe a slim chance but does anyone have both the R1280DB and the R1280DBS?

If you do does the DBS remote work with the DB? I hate the flimsy membrane type remote with the DB and the DBS remote is only $15.99 (+9.99 ship) from Edifier (it's so bad I'm thinking of just taking the chance and buying)

Other pet peeve is the fact that the input indicator LED is on the side of the right speaker not the front which makes it harder to see)

  • Do these come with wires connection option as well? cause my PC doesn't have wifi.

    • "Optical and coaxial inputs to ensure a lossless connection to TVs and computers" so yes
