Good price for Yamaha AV Receiver RX-V6A. It's actually dropped by a $100 since this morning I think. I am not sure how this fares compared to similarly priced Denon X-series Receivers, any recommendations/feedback highly appreciated. Thank you.

Just fyi this only has 20gbps HDMI 2.1 which can't do uncompressed 120hz. If you're a gamer get a Denon.

Correct me, if the gaming device connects directly into the tv this isn't an issue? and just have the audio thru the av receiver?

Also there seems to be a Hardware HDMI chip swap etc. but may have expired now -

      • That's correct, you can connect direct to the TV and do sound via eARC to the receiver.

+2 - we have a Denon AVR-2113. XBox, Google TV and BD Player into TV, HDMI from TV to receiver on the ARC input for audio.

      • This is after the hardware swap, before it was even worse.

This guy recommends the Denon X1700H over this Yamaha in the review here: https://youtu.be/1ycdRqio1Rs

    Available for $900 here: https://thehifishop.com.au/products/denon-x-1700h?

    • Yep price matched this at Good Guys last week but they had to order it in.

As already mentioned don't buy this as doesn't do proper HDMI 2.1. When this was released they basically tricked everyone into buying it based on false claims , then had to replace the board and even then was still not fit for purpose.

To get around it you have to plug your game consoles directly into the TV and do earc to this unit.

While I don't disagree this is worth mentioning this, I don't see why one wouldn't plug a console directly to the TV anyway. Surely it reduces input lag at the least. Unless you have multiple consoles and not enough 4k/120Hz inputs on your TV, I would rather plug straight into the TV.

      • Some TVs if you plug devices into them will only show Stereo available through e/arc as the devices won't see the AVR that's attached to the TV only what the TV sound…which is mostly stereo.

Plugging devices direct to the AV receiver like Denon AVR-660H will tell the devices that all the speaker setup you may have is available like 5.1/7.1.2/7.7.11 and it will only pass through the video signal 4k/120hz to the TV and the sound will be processed by the AVR.

        • OK I didn't know that, thets pretty crap. I just assumed it passed through the TV to the amp. I assume it's only a problem with cheap TV's, I've never had this problem even on the base model Samsung TV's I've had over the years.

This is a very good unit. Highly recommended, especially at this price
