On sale is one of TerraMaster's newer 4 Bay NAS drives with a lot more premium features over its predecessors.

Featuring 4 SATA Bays with support for up to 20TB each, 2x M.2 2280 NVMe slots for storage/cache, 2x 2.5GbE LAN, Intel Celeron N5095 quad-core CPU, 4GB DDR4 SODIMM RAM (Upgradeable to 32GB), 2x USB 3.2 Gen2 10Gbps ports and HDMI.

A good option for those wanting to have network storage, Plex transcoding, Docker, video surveillance, syncing to OneDrive/Google Drive/Dropbox and more. TerraMaster's own operating system (TOS 5.1) continues to mature with recent features like TRAID which is basically Synology's SHR and new caching support. You can install another OS like TrueNAS or Synology unofficially too.

I own this one myself with the RAM bumped up to 16GB and works well for storing my 4K footage, security camera footage and running a few docker containers.

  • @Clear just wanted to know which drives are you using for security camera footage? I have 2xIronwolf Pro drives but not sure if I can use that storing it. I'm thinking to get Skyhawk 4TB to configure in a separate pool just for footage. Are you using the footage in same pool as media files?

    • Everyone would have a different opinion on the matter. I'm using Ironwolf myself and it's fine for me. I don't have footage going there constantly and I use the NAS for other reasons.

      • Ya I agree on that. If its not constantly stored then the usage should be fine i believe. I'm looking at writing to it like an nvr, that's why wanted to get an opinion.

        • I personally would stick with the Ironwolf Pro. My NVR is running of WD Red Plus drives

  • How does this compares to DS920+? I was on eBay and a secondhand unit of DS920+ went up to $AUD720.. for a 3 year old NAS system. TerraMaster is a newer unit and is cheaper.

    • +1

The specs are certainly better than the DS920+. Synology will always have better software and support though.

  • Really want 2.5GbE but would need to backup 30TB somehow :|

    • The easiest way is with a pair of 16TB external drives that you can connect on a schedule. Leave them stored safely elsewhere when you're not actively doing a backup !

      • Yeah, but that's $700 in disk's plus the NAS.

For the amount of effort and cost, I'll stick with my DS918+ for now using a USB ethernet adaptor.

  • I am NAS illiterate here, currentky just using shared HDD off the router, looking for shared network storage, backups and Kodi use, point me in the right direction or is this okay ?

    • This is perfectly fine, I personally prefer Synology and QNAP over these though.

  • This was a better deal if you are on a budget and don't mind 1GB
