Fake Battery Vs Original Battery Drill Test

I was tricked into buying a Bosch Pro Core "6.5Ah" battery on eBay.

I admit that the price was very low but the merchant used the same picture as the original Bosch one with the Pro Core logo. Upon receiving it I realised that it's not an original battery also I did some research and I found out that Bosch doesn't make "6.5Ah" batteries.

I immediately applied for a return and I tested it on my drill. My original 4Ah battery was sitting in its box for more than one year and it displayed 50% charge. I tested it by holding the clutch to get an idea of the power and the speed. Then I tested the fake 6.5Ah battery which displayed 100% charge, again I held the clutch and I realised that it spun slower and it had less torque.

What do you guys think about these batteries?

Mod: Removed poll as the choices were questions.

      Thanks for your feedback.
Next time that I buy batteries I'll make another poll and I'll copy & paste your suggestions.

Ebay is always sketchy for batteries! Wait for the ozb deals at reputable sellers

Lithium cells have a max discharge rate, which is dependent on… well, I guess you could call it cell quality. So the capacity isn't the thing that matters here, it's the quality of the cells which make up the battery and their discharge rate.

Generally, avoid cheap crappy battery packs. They tend to die faster, suffer from leakage problems, or lose capacity.

Ebay is one of the last places I would consider sourcing lithium batteries from. On par with random Aliexpress or Bangood sellers.

  • I normally say buy authentic only but was pleasantly surprised with the generic Ryobi 9ah ones on eBay . 1 battery I can line trim front yard, use the blower, and still got enough juice to trim the hedges.

Batteries and microsd cards are something you should always be very wary of buying online from places like Ali and ebay

You were not "tricked" rather you fooled yourself by going for an obviously cheap price and a product the manufacturer does not make.

  • Do your homework …..and reap what you sow…..
    A fool & his money…..
If is sounds too good to be true.
    Buy it once…
    etc

Be thankful you weren't buying medication

  • Maybe a good bookshop: Batteries for D….

Bought a 6Ah Makita battery, My test worked out it equaled 2Ah.
The biggest problem that most will miss, is if you're drilling into concrete, the drill might need a 5 or10C discharge rate or even more. The copy batteries can't discharge that fast, lagging the machine and wasting your time.

"Tricked" into buying a battery that was known to be a very low price and still went ahead with the purchase. The old motto "If something seems too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true." rings true for most things that are priced way below what you expect to pay.
