The EVO select 256gb is only $24. The Sandisk Ultra is lower tier card in terms of speed than the EVO select (U1/A1 for sandisk and U3/A2 for EVO select).

Thanks for the tip, but not sure I understand. The EVO Select says 130MB/s compared to the 150 MB/s of the Sandisk Ultra. Isn't that slower speed?

      • +2

That's the "theoretical" maximum readspeed. All the "U" (and "V") ratings refer to the minimum sustained write speeds which is usually much more relevant. U1 means minimum 10 Mbps whereas U3 means minimum 30 Mbps.

      • +1

Short answer: that is the advertised read speed which can only be achieved on specific card readers. 99% of devices you are using this for will be capped at 100MB/s read due to UHS-II limitations so the advertised read speed is irrelevant.

Where cards differentiate themselves are the write speeds and the Evo write speeds are faster than the Ultra and are also certified for higher sustained write performance.

Peak write speed under ideal conditions? Possibly; but thats NOT what most users are after.
The Samsung walks over the Sandisk with ratings of U3, A2 and V30.

    • This is a much better buy. I agree, minimum guaranteed speed is usually more important than theoretical max.

  • Yes the Sandisk is faster, 150MB

  • good for a 2k dashcam?
