Do I Have to Pay All-at-Once if I Leave AGL?

Hey guys

AGL is really expensive and ripping me off. I have found another provider which has less daily supply charge and $ per kw. Can I switch to them without paying AGL in full? I am on payment plan with them.

Thanks.

You will be issued a final account from AGLif you transfer to another supplier.

My guess is you will have 2 weeks to pay that final account.

    and ripping me off

No they aren't. You've always had the choice and freedom to move to another supplier. You have simply been paying the lazy man tax. Blame transfer all you like but it's not AGL's fault.

  • You will pay AGL until the day your new energy provider arrange a meter read and takes over your energy supply.

  • You will eventually need to pay your AGL account in full.

But I suspect you can string it out:

    a) upon receiving your final account ring up and request an extension
    b) upon the extension coming to an end: call, explain your situation and request a discount to your bill noting the difference in price - escalate this request to higher call-centre officers
    c) if still insufficient file a complaint with https://www.ewov.com.au/ or your state equivalent - this will suspend any default action (you can choose whether you go with a "can't pay" or "why is their price more expensive than competitors" complaint)
    d) if it is free, insist that complaint be investigated
    e) at the conclusion expect to pay most of the account less any small concession
    f) make sure you claim all concessions available to you like the $250 from https://compare.energy.vic.gov.au/

If you're doing this because of genuine hardship as opposed to spite (unlike one person in this conversation 😏), consider paying little bits at a time. Managing a tight financial situation is really more than finding a big bill and postponing it. I've never used it but consider giving these guys a call: https://ndh.org.au/

Good luck with the extension, but AGL will have nothing to lose in requiring you make full payment at the end of your account.
After all, you have used the electricity.

  • I bet you could negotiate a payment plan. If you can't or won't pay it all right away then what other choice do they have?
