[PC, Steam] Free - Case #1472 @ Steam

1802

Currently free to play game transitioning to paid model from September 7. Add to the pile and forget. Mixed reviews.

A mysterious woman is sitting in front of you. Who is she? And who are you? And why are you both there? Case #1472 is mystery information digging interrogation thriller game where there are more things going on than what meets the eye, but are you able to unravel what has happened?

Hey all!
We just want to quickly remind everyone to get the game for free, while it remains in Early Access.

As it looks like today, the game will hit version 1.0 and leave Early Access (hence, no longer be free) within a few months.

Even though version 1.0 will be released, it doesn't mean the polishing, nor the updates, will stop. It just means, it is basically feature complete of all major features, including the ending, and it should no longer be regarded as a prototype.

But that's hopefully in a few months!

So make sure to grab the game now, install it, while it's free and remains in Early Access, and it should be free forever for you!

As always, thanks to everyone who is trying out the game. We keep polishing and improving the game, based on all feedback, so we are truly appreciative to everyone who tries it! :)

      EARLY ACCESS REVIEW
      POSTED: 28 JUNE
Case #1472 is an Early Access 3D rendered "interview simulator" where you interview someone to unravel a mystery while surrounded by what look a lot like uncredited stock Unity assets. Ahh, I love the smell of plagiarism in the morning, how ethical. This might as well be a Youtube video, but if it was, it wouldn't be a good one.

The game has been in Early Access since 2022 and while it's still getting mostly empty updates, it's deep in Development Hell, and swept past the developers deadline to complete the game several months ago. There's no reasonable expectation that this will ever be completed. Whether the developer lacks the time, funds, or skill/talent required to complete a video game isn't really something gamers should be expected to accept as an excuse.

You don't have to take my word about how bad the game is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. Case #1472 has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for asking a very basic question at the start of the game, trivial to achieve, but less than 8 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch.

The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 5 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Couldn't even give it away for free. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 other completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.

You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement. This agreement includes questionable (and possibly law breaching) privacy requirements that no gamer should ever have to engage in. The developer specifically advises they intend to gather and retain private user data as a core component of the game… this is spyware, and highly unethical. Of course they will swear black and blue they won't abuse this or try to profit from the personally identifying information they harvest from gamers… would you trust them? Developers must learn they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I had my cat walk over the keyboard while the EULA was displaying, which fixed that problem for me.

The game isn't really free as the developers indicated they would probably charge money for this if it was ever released… however, because it's unlikey to ever be completed, this is an academic question. This isn't worth wasting the time to download.

Why are we posting about a game that the reviews suggest is low quality and basically spyware?

    • +3

It's free so people just tend to upvote. Plenty of free games posted here are absolute, utter trash (like this one) which no one will ever play after adding it to their library, but the freebies attract the votes.

      • Hmm any tips for knowing which ozb posted games are worth getting & playing

        • +1

Usually just reading the steam reviews can be enough. Seeing this one has a 'mixed' rating with only 15 reviews was already a red flag. Reading one or two confirmed it.

  • So this game is spy ware and we should not claim it, let alone download it?

    • On the browser, F12, click on the top left second button to simulate phone browser. Then scroll down to Add to Library.

    • Just claim it, it won't spy on you without downloading it.

      • What's the point in claiming it then lol

        • Add to my Steam library collection.

  • Do I need to have beaten the first 1471 cases to understand this one?
