How much is it normally ?

  • Pedals: None included

    😲

Haha. Before I started road cycling this was also my reaction.

    • It's like buying socks for $500 and expecting shoes to be included. Pedals are very user specific for cyclists. This isn't a kmart bike

You can wear socks without shoes…

        I'm doing that now…

So are seats, but that seems to be included…

          @JV makes a valid point.

            @kickling: Not really…

There are at least 4 different types of cleats for mountain bike.

This isn't a kids bike. You're not ridding downhill without cleats. At beast you're riding 50/50 cleats.

This isn't about saving money, it's about not putting out a product with something that is useless to the end user.

            • +1

@itshammer: Yeah agree with you. But also JV makes a valid point in principle, in that seats (well my experience with road cycling) are very much a personal choice involving many more factors than choosing clipless system brand, so just like pedals the customer will be choosing the best option for them.

      • your analogy doesn't make sense. they can include pedals and the end user can upgrade if they choose to.

        • In which case an end user could buy the socks and change the shoes and feel like they have wasted something.

    • Get over it. This is the market for more than 15 years.

Phones stopped including charges and nobody comments that every time a phone is posted.

      • Why do they include seats then?

        • I'd prefer the manufacturers to not include one if that lowered the final price. None of my bikes have the original seat on.

          • @dwbr: that's right…

they should either provide everything, or leave out all the components that enthusiasts who buy these expensive bikes would replace.

            • +1

@jv: Yeah not, thats not how it works.

You can sit on a seat, as you have a butt.

You can't clip SPD cleats into a speedplay pedal.

And before you say "just include generic pedals", this is a downhill dual suspension mountain bike. You don't downhill with cleatless pedals.

              • @itshammer:

You can sit on a seat, as you have a butt.

You can still use pedals, as you have feet.

                • @jv: In my experience pedals get swapped out a lot more than seats. You can still sit on a shitty seat while riding uphill, you cant keep your feet on shitty pedals while riding down trails.

I always swap the seat and keep the pedals as I prefer my seat to be comfortable for my fat butt…

Afterwards, though, you will have a funny walk

              • @itshammer: Sam Hill says otherwise!

I've been watching their Grand Canyon 9 come down in price over the past few week.. just hoping they'll throw in a "free freight" again soon.

2x my roadie and then some!

      • +1

I dare say this is 2x more capable than your roadie though :P

  • This is sort of okay price for the specs…

    • I reckon this is a good price for an entry level enduro dually.

From a quick look around, a Merida One Sixty is the closest your getting to this for the price right now, and that's going down to an 11 speed deore

      • If you look around for sales and deals, you'll get something.

I got a 2022 Scott Genius 950 for $2800 3 months ago. They are currently $2400 at Ray's Bikes in Preston VIC.

        • Also, dealing with Canyon's warranty is a bit annoying… you have to go to their head office or mail them.

        • Fairs enough. I guess I'm out of touch with where the market is these days… My last N+1 was just before COVID…
