Sri Lanka Sim Card

I am flying to Sri Lanka. I need to buy a sim card. Any suggestions?

  • The airport has few telcos stores. Just get a sim from them, it will be instant and slightly expensive. but very convenient and would cost maybe $10-20 depending on the data and duration required.

Suggest you see the travel doctor. Al Jazeera has been reporting on some of the diseases in Sri Lanka and it looks like they got more of 'em.

  • Yo my man/girl,
I've been to Sri Lanka 3 times since September 2022. Place is perfectly fine though I mostly stayed in Colombo. This last trip I went in June, I went up to Jaffna which has also been perfectly fine, if not a bit more touristy. No issues with immigration, COVID, customs, health, fuel or affordability. Inflation has hit everywhere, but to our dollar, meals are still way cheaper than what we get on this side of the world anyways.

As far as cheap SIM and covering a decent part of the country is concerned, I'd suggest checking out the Dialog booth. They do a 690 LKR 30 day combo package that has 1000 mins, 1000 sms and 3.5GB data for the month. If that's not enough data, then you can always chuck on an extra 120 LKR (+GST) for an extra GB of data or more.

As far as I know, it should be the same price in the airport as it is outside. If you don't trust it, you can get the app and sort it out now, but I recommend buying at the booth and using currency if you have any (I'd suggest getting the app installed, so you can keep track of your balances and what your number is anytime someone asks haha)

    Have fun!
