For anyone who hasn't had one of these books before they are great.
Even if you don't use any of the discounts in restaurants (which are generally 25% off upto a $45 discount limit).
    - Then there's the $11.70 movie tickets.
    - 5% off gift cards for Coles, K-Mart and Wish Gift cards.

(Coles gift cards can ONLY be used in Coles, K-Mart can be used at K-Mart tyre and auto. Wish is good at Woolworths, Dick Smiths, Bws, Officeworks, Big W, Caltex and Dan Murpheys (plus a couple of others)).

You also get loads of coupons for places such as Maccas, Red Rooster, KFC, Bumbys……

Anyone who is considering these books I couldn't recommend them highly enough.
I've easily saved $100 so far on this years book on shopping alone (ends July 2013) - Seriously 5% off groceries and petrol is easily worth $65.

    • I thought this is for entertainment only, didn't know you can use it at supermarkets too. May get it then, thanks.

    • How many $11.70 movie tickets are in there?
      Any other movie-related offers inside?

      …I like movies.

      • You order online, from memory around 30 tickets have been ordered from this book and I'm sure I'll order more.

(These aren't free tickets or super savers so they don't have limitations other than online surcharges and a surcharge for 3d and obviously no gold class)

        • I'm pretty sure they are valid upto a certain date, can't be used after 5pm Saturdays.

    • Is the 5% off gift cards a one off or unlimited number of gift card purchases until the book expires? Many thanks in advance

I've only tried ordering WISH cards (Woolies) so far. Not quite unlimited but not one off either. I think for the WISH cards it's unlimited but the Coles I believe has a $4000 gift card limit per membership. It's also free registered shipping (for WISH cards anyway)

        • Thanks for that.

Officeworks is not part of Woolworths, hence the WISH gift cards will not work there.

I would recommend buying this through your local charities/clubs/not for profits where possible so they receive a portion of the $65 you have to pay anyway. Two examples in Victoria are the MS shops and the Cancer Council office. I know it's less convenient than it being shipped to you but it's a fairly easy way to do a good deed and make it more meaningful.

,,,,I buy this every year from my kids school…as the school gets around ~20% of the sale price…which is a great way to support the school…

  • Are the use-by date for these coupons by calender year or from the day you buy the book? Don't want to buy close to the end and not have time to use them.

    • Use by date is usually 30 June.

      • +1

        valid till: 1 june 2013

        • Ah ok, I stand corrected. Thought it was June though.

  • +2

    I usually get mine for $60 :S

Also, if you're an existing member, they were selling these for $50, weeks leading up to Fathers Day.

    • From where do you get it for $60?

      • A number of charities sell these for $60 while others sell them for $65. Depends on how much the charity wants to make I guess. Meetspin is totally correct though. All existing members were offered more copies of the Melb Ent Book for $50 just before Father's Day.

    • where are they $50

    • Both times we have got them they have been less than this. Once for $55 and once for $60.

This has been off friends who have been selling them for charity / schools / etc.

      • Different regions have different prices, which may be where some of the confusion comes from. Bigger places cost $65, whereas smaller regions are a bit cheaper.

  • I noticed in the Forum that there's plenty of peeps around willing to do swapsies on the coupons that they don't want. So, even if there is some stuff in the book that doesn't interest you (and you're too tight to just give 'em away to friends), it shouldn't be too difficult to offload those coupons for something you do want.

There is no need to go into your local charity to buy these as buying online allows you to nominate a charity of your choice. "Nominate a participating fund-raising group to receive 20% towards their cause."

  • If you buy this from your 'organisation' (school, club, etc), they get a cut from the $65.

how is this a bargain? It normally costs $65 (that's how much I bought it for back in May), and 25% of the offer periods have finished…
The vouchers are only valid of another 9 months…

    • -3

what do you mean by "25% off the offer periods have finished"?

all of my vouchers are valid till 1 june 2013 (except a few which are week/month specific), including those with 25% or more off etc.

      • +6

I agree, no bargain here - $65 is the normal price.

      • +3

including those with 25% or more off etc.

        LoL!

Sooo.. you just added a letter to Jv's (actual) word and were determined to run with it all the way, eh? =)

        • +2

          You caught me ;)

    • +2

agreed no bargain, i get mine for $60 and support my local community

    • +3

Does it normally cost for shipping? I don't know. Perhaps that's the bargain aspect?

      • +1

Yes, postage is usually extra so would be the bargain.

  • -1

They are cheaper than this at release time. So they should be cheaper again now.

  • -1

No deal. Normal price as everyone has suggested

  • If you plan to order, use a charity - most of them get 10% - 20% eg: http://www.visionaustralia.org/info.aspx?page=2613

  • This is a good deal for anyone who hasn't got one yet - but you're silly not to get these things early. If you want to get it delivered for free, get it this way. I got mine in person from a charity in April and it lasts for 14 months. The hotels, Woolworths, JB HiFi and Caltex alone are worth it.

P.S. The Melbourne one is $65 everywhere, but I think Tasmania and other places are cheaper all year. Anyone saying they get it for less is either getting a brilliant deal or doesn't understand the different pricing.
