These are designed as surround speakers due to the bipole/dipole design. This design helps diffuse (or spread) the sound to produce a better surround effect. They're not suited as front/stereo speakers. You're better off looking a traditional speaker for pure 2-channel.

These were $299 last week on amazon but the deal was removed. I think $299 is the actual street price.

Thanks OP, I've been looking for something to replace my old Polk LS FX surrounds, these will do the trick.

good price, but it's 2023, and we need a more accurate speaker system.

  • What's the sensitivity? Power rating? Impedence and frequency response? That link doesn't say it.

The problem I find with these mini speakers nowadays is that they may not handle the full dynamic range of the DTHD or DTS-HDMA sound track, which has full base as well. I have a pair of Boston Micro VRS dipole speaker which I bought in the DVD DD5.1 days. It was adequate but unable to handle the current bluray or 4K soundtrack. Maybe the DD+ track on Netflix is ok.

I had to buy another pair of floor standing speakers for surround channels and use these microspeakers for atoms/DTS-X ceiling channels.

  • I know Polk Audio is seen as a good brand, but I was always disappointed with my full sized Polk Audio speakers. I am not sure if they were just a difficult speaker to drive in the bass range, but they never sounded like they did in the HiFi store. Of course all very different speakers and time has moved on.

  • I can assure you that my Polk Audio speakers came from one of the top hi fi specialists in Melbourne, which is all the more reason why I was disappointed. The mid and top end where good, but it was the low end that was nothing like I was demonstrated. I tried different amplifiers with them, but there was no difference.

The Polk Audio speakers I owned cost at least five times the price of those at Woolworths.

  • I'm relatively new to home audio. Are these speakers good for desktop use for surround sound on a PC or are they designed to be in a surround sound set up with multiple other channels?

    • These are for behind you in a surround sound setup
