DJI Care Refresh & Memory Card for DJI Mini 3 Pro RC

Hey guys,

I have recently bought the DJI Mini 3 Pro w/ RC controller.

As a novice drone pilot, I am thinking it is definitely worth buying the DJI Care Refresh Plan.

Does anyone know of the most "Ozbargain way" to buy the Care Refresh Plan for one's drone?
I have had a look at both eBay AU and Amazon AU. I don't see any listings of the Refresh Plan for the Mini 3 Pro model that I could buy using discounted eBay/Amazon GCs.
So, full price it is from the DJI Store.

If I buy the 1-year plan now, does anyone know if it can be renewed for another 1 or 2 years after expiry?

MEMORY CARD
I have got a 32GB memory card (Thinkware / MLC), which I think will only store about 30 minutes of 4K footage.
I am waiting for a deal on the 256GB SanDisk Extreme PRO model.
Alternatively, could you please suggest another memory card brand & model that would be a more optimal choice for this drone?

ACCESSORIES
I have ordered the following sunshade case for the DJI RC Remote Conroller:
https://www.amazon.com.au/DGBAY-Protective-Controller-Access…

Are there any other accessories that are a must have? Please provide suggestions and links within the comments section, if you can.

I am also looking at buying a landing pad. But too many choices, and so I couldn't make up my mind yet.

Thank you in advance for any helpful comments.

Yes, you can renew a 1 year plan after the first year but must be done within 15 days of expiry. I did get a small discount when I purchased my DJI Care Refresh plan through eBay. I think I used an eBay code. The seller will send you a code to activate the plan. I do think it's worthwhile buying DJI Care Refresh especially as the Mini is more vulnerable to bird attacks.

If you bought the DJI RC (built-in screen), I'd also suggest getting two microSD cards. The DJI RC can save a HD copy of the videos as you fly as a backup copy in case anything happens to the drone. You also don't need the PRO version of the microSD card. I use a SanDisk Extreme 256 GB in both controller and drone and haven't had any issues. You might be able to get Officeworks to price beat Bunnings for these microSD cards. Don't buy from Bunnings though as it's sold through their marketplace.

I wouldn't worry about a landing pad as hand launching and hand landing, while scary at first, is the better way. You are more likely to get sand somewhere in your drone when landing on the ground at the beach compared to hand landing.

    Hand landing
    1. Put your hand up just below where the drone is hovering
    2. Lower the altitude. The drone may momentarily ascend above, this is normal.
    3. Keeping lowering the altitude and the drone will land.

Watch some YouTube videos on hand launching and landing.

Besides buying the fly more kit, the only accessory I'd recommend that you get eventually is a better screw driver. The included screw driver, at least in my experience, is not the best for changing the props.

Take the drone to an open field and practice flying. It's a good idea to fly without looking at the screen. Try and learn how to fly around a tree while keeping the camera facing the tree.

    Follow all drone rules

Lastly, watch plenty of YouTube videos as there are lots of things to learn and fly regularly. Owning a drone is fun but unless you're flying regularly, it is an expensive paperweight. Ask me any questions you have. I own a DJI Mini 3 Pro and a Mavic Pro. I've been flying DJI since 2018.

    • Did you get a digital code sent from Ebay or a physical voucher for the DJI Care Refresh?

      • Digital code

        • Which seller did you use? I ordered from Sydney Mobile and they are physically shipping the the voucher.

          • @ar7ist: Mobileciti eStore

          • @ar7ist: You're supposed to activate DJI Care Refresh within 48 hours of activating the drone; however you might be able to activate it outside of this time frame if you send photos to DJI to confirm the drone is not damaged… You'll need to double check this yourself but I'd recommend waiting until the voucher arrives before activating the drone to avoid the possibility of DJI rejecting activation after the 48 hours. Alternatively, if the voucher has not shipped yet, you could either cancel your order and purchase a digital voucher or ask the seller to send the code to your email.

            • @thisusernameistaken: Cheers for the replies. They are not responding to any emails directly or via ebay. I asked them if I could get the voucher via email. I got an email that the item has been shipped with delivery date after about a week and I need to use the drone over the weekend for a trip - would've been to have it insured as its my first time using this drone.

              Tough luck with Sydneymobiles.

              • @ar7ist: Are you an eBay Plus member? I'm not sure if it's possible but you could buy DJI Care Refresh directly from DJI and then returning the Sydneymobiles code after it arrives.

I have the mini 3 pro

    I bought:
    - DJI wide angle lens (from digidirect but can buy from wherever)
    - Freewell branded filters from Amazon
    - Propeller holder wings from Aliexpress (currently $5.98)
    - Portable carrying cases - 1 for controller 1 for drone for times I want to split them up in my bag rather than use a dedicated bag for the drone like came with the Fly More Plus pack - also Aliexpress (maybe $20 each)
    - Foldable landing pad from Aliexpress - sunnylife brand for $23.30

Many of the above are also on Amazon but you'll pay more than getting from Aliexpress so if you can wait I suggest the AE route

Sorry can't link you on work laptop

I just have a fast 64GB SD card as that's heaps (IMO) already - and if drone went down I'd hate to have lost a really expensive SD card.

@thisusernameistaken @Shadowsfury Thank you so much for such a detailed response, guys.

I bought the DJI Care Refresh (1-Year) before activating the aircraft. No discount via eBay this time around, but hopefully when it comes time to renew next year.

I will just stick with the Samsung EVO Plus 256GB memory card. I will probably buy two of these - one for the UAV, and one for the RC (backup those precious photos and videos as they are taken).

    Hand landing

I have been watching lots of YouTube videos as per your suggestion. I will give it a go next time I am out in the field.

Ask me any questions you have.

I am going to take you up on this offer. :-)
Here is one. Where is the best place to buy genuine replacement propellers. There are 2 (DJI branded) spare sets in the box, and they need to be replaced in pairs.
If you happen to damage or scrape all 4, then you should keep 4 pairs handy.

The DJI ones are out of stock at the moment.
    https://store.dji.com/au/product/dji-mini-3-pro-propellers?v…

They are probably a bit over-priced if you buy them directly from the DJI store.
The photo shows 4 pairs. But the listing states:

    In The Box
    Propellers (pair) × 2
    Screws × 12

I did a quick search on eBay and Amazon. Found a listing such as below.
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/175768108841

If I were to buy no name replacement propellers, should I expect my drone to mysteriously fall out of the sky?

    • Should also add - don't cheap out on the SD card - if you want to shoot 4k something that is too slow is going to stutter - I initially just used a couple of spare SD cards I had lying around but both had same problem - changed to a better card and the stuttering was gone.

      • changed to a better card and the stuttering was gone.

Yep. The RC will keep beeping at you until you insert a speed compatible SD card.

BTW, which SD cards did you change to for the drone and the RC?

I bought the SanDisk Extreme (the red and gold ones) for both drone and controller.

    • My apologies for the delay in replying @DoctorCalculon. I usually browse OzBargain signed out so I didn't see your notifications until now.

I bought the fly more kit which comes with spare propellers so I haven't needed to buy replacements yet. The Mini series propellers use tiny screws with thread locker so they can be quite difficult to unscrew… I had to use a dremel after I stripped the screw so I now take extra precaution to avoid replacing them again.

I personally wouldn't use third party propellers unless the official DJI are no longer sold anywhere. For example, I also own the DJI Mavic Pro which came out in 2016 and has since been discontinued and last time I checked, the propellers are no longer sold so if I need to replace mine, I'd have to use third party or second hand.

I bought genuine DJI propellers for my Mavic Pro drone from CameraPro however most retailers that sell DJI drones will stock replacements like Camera House. A major retailer nearby would be my first option (so I don't have to wait for shipping) and then I'd go DJI online.

At some point I recall also buying propellers from JB Hi-Fi but looking on their website, I can't see Mini propellers listed but maybe give your local store a call anyway.

$19 for two propellers is expensive compared to the actual cost to produce them but I think it's better to pay the extra than purchasing questionable quality after market propellers. You also shouldn't be crashing the drone that often to justify buying them in bulk… fly safe and keep your distance from obstacles.

Lastly, despite what DJI might say, you can sometimes get away with a tiny cut and some scratches in the propellers. But I'd only suggest doing that as a last resort, $38 is better spent than a drone crashing due to poor propellers.
