Shark RSI Motorcycle Helmets $199 + $15 Delivery

90

Hi everyone,

Just bought myself a new crash hat and thought I'd share the deal because I think its pretty good… they have a decent selection of colors/sizes for a clearance range and cheapest I could see elsewhere in AUS was $349 + delivery.

These Shark RSI helmets seem to get good reviews from fellow riders, lightweight, comfortable, good ventilation and it has a good safety rating on the euro SHARP helmet safety comparison site, 4 out of 5 stars.

Hope someone else might find this useful!

I figure there must be a few riders on ozbargain if for nothing else other than the fact they are cheap form of transport lol.

  • What's the vip member price? And any idea if it's the same price in store, so as to save on shipping and to try it on?

Edit: Although it seems like this is a pretty standard price going by their eBay listing:

Yeah its the same price as in store I believe, I just joined up on the site and when you go checkout you can go pick up in store $0 or delivery $15

EDIT: The ebay store is a duplicate of their store, so its the same place, so comparing them to themselves doesn't make it a standard price.

  • Nice prices - but looks like no M's or L's left :(

EDIT: Actually there is - but not the better looking ones!

Any helmets that'll make me look like the stig?

  • how good is this helmet? my $200 agv stealth was a good buy, although doesnt fit my head very well.

    • +6

IMO, a $200 helmet that doesn't fit your head very well is not a good buy haha

      • $130 for m2r or whatever brand. just as good as the $300 helmets

        • Plastic Shell?

        • debatable. passing the same tests doesn't mean the helmets are the same, just means they passed the same tests. then the argument is whether the tests are sufficient and what scenarios they replicate.

      • +1

I concur. Helmet needs to be a good fit. Otherwise it can affect your riding which IMO not good through traffic.

I usually avoid helmets on special. Usually they're old stock which means no good for the foam as they harden overtime. Check the manufacturer date. Avoid anything more than 4 years. Or alternatively use that for bargaining. Refuse to pay full rpp for anybhelmets older than a year.

End of the day you pay whatever how much you value your head.

    Review: http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/motorcycle-helmet/shark-rsi/

Good Price for "Shell made from Carbon/Kevlar multi-directional composite fibres"

What head shape fit are they similar too?

    • Similar to Arai's apparently

  • $199 is a good price IMO but an extra $80 or so if I want a different visor, i like to ride with a mirrored visor, is really no bargain

Most visors are expensive. Try ebay for cheaper options with coated/tinted visors. Clear Iridium for $20 delivered from Riders Discount. No AS/NZS marking, though tinted ones don't usually get the AS/NZS mark.

  • To save any other pinheads looking for a Small. The only model available is the 'fire' which is pretty ugly unless you are going for the Nicolas Cage in Ghost Rider look. XS appears to be available with more options.

  • Anyone that has purchased got a Date of Manufacture?

    • +3

When I looked, most were 02/2011.

  • Anyone know of a comparable price/quality helmet to the $199 Shark RSI?

  • +1

Well my helmet arrived today! It came with an extra 2 (so 3 including the one already on the helmet) visors for free! both 'light iridium' which is what I was going to get anyway, they go for about $50 each on the net so I'm very happy with this purchase :)

Can't guarantee everyone will get the free visors though as I had no idea until I opened the package.

I've had one of these for 2ish years, now so I can give a quick review for anyone who is looking to buy one.

    Good
    Light
    Comfortable
Visors seem to resist scratches alot better than HJC and KBC
    Visor mechanism is excellent

    Bad
    Vents suck
    Fogs like crazy in rain
breath gaurd is crap and uncomfortable, it rubs on my (admittedly quite large) nose and doesn't help with the fogging. I use cat crap anti-fog with minimal sucess. I normally wear glasses and crack the visor in summer rain now.

I paid $350ish for my helmet, and it was ok for that price but it made me decide to try a shoei or Arai next time to see how they handle rain and fogging. My previous two helmets leaked around the visor in rain, which was mildly annoying but atleast it stopped it fogging and I could see.

For $200 its still a steal and if didn't regularly ride in heavy rain I would probably buy another.

I had a Shark RSI for over three years and loved it. Paid $375 for it at the time, and it was excellent value then, so at $199 it's a steal.

I bought myself a Shark Vision-R to replace it after a mild off. The Vision-R is a great helmet, but I kinda miss the RSI and hence I am looking around for another one. Had I seen them at $199, it would have been a no-brainer.

  • I'm thinking of buying a shark RSI visor from overseas. However, I want to save on postage, so if anyone is interested and in the Parramatta region, PM me. Cost for a "Dark Tinted" visor: $55, "Chrome Irridium" visor: $75, "Blue Irridium" visor: $75, "Clear Irridium" $45. Cheapest price for Dark Tint I've found in Australia or online is $70, and that's at Action MC, who say they're out of stock. Likewise, for the irridiums they're $80+. If you're looking at in-stock ones they're an extra $10 more each.

I can only order 2 (including 1 for myself), so as soon as you decide on ONE visor, let me know and I'll order and we can arrange a meetup after it's been delivered.

    How they look like:

    ~$20 for Clear Iridium, shipped.

    • Cheers for that. Might prove useful for someone else though as unfortunately I'm only after the dark tint. Would greatly appreciate it if anyone knows of a place where I could get that for cheaper than $55 delivered though.

    • Thanks Steptoe, just landed my helmet and bought a Clear Iridium visor per your link. Couldn't be happier!

The deal is still on and it looks like they added some more choices. I just picked up a Shinto Lumi. Note that the Ebay price adds a couple of bucks each to the helmet and the shipping. Also, if anyone cares, they let you use Amex without surcharge for small purchases such as these.
