Any upgrades (other than when you paid the full commercial fare) will not attract bonus Status Credits as a result of this offer. Eligible Flights that satisfy the above eligibility criteria are eligible to earn 100% more Status Credits than the Status Credits that would normally be earned for that flight and fare class. There is no limit on the amount of times this offer can be redeemed. Where multiple guests are listed on the same booking, only those guests who satisfy the above eligibility criteria are eligible for this offer. You should allow up to 4 weeks after satisfying the above eligibility criteria for the bonus Status Credits to be allocated. Shame I don’t fly VA but this is probably the best promotion all year round by either VA/QF! DSC time!

(Best DSC run has to be MEL-OOL-MEL/$700 return at its lowest for 320 SCs)

    • I need 70 sc, what the my most economic status run from Mel?

      • +1

Melbourne - Gold Coast RT in Economy Choice is 40 SCs before the doubler for $280

    • What months /dates was it? I just need 160 SC to keep sliver but 320 would be nice.Very tempting

      • Found a business 8th Sept OOL-MEL for $349

        • Strange the business is cheaper than the flex

    • What date?

    • There were $1.90 per SC tickets in the Feb Virgin DSC iirc.

      • There were - you could spend 5 hours and find the best of the best.

  • Unfortunately, restricted time frame again. Used to be for the coming year, only ~5 months this time.

  • Great timing - I'm about to book a few work flights this week.

  • +2

Damn, just booked a flight for October on Saturday night. :(

  • Bugger - booked flights on Sunday evening.

  • +2

I was looking in the Virgin Australia app and couldn’t find anything. Realised there’s a separate Velocity app. Silly that there’s two separate apps.

    • I agree it's annoying. Air Aisa and Cebu Pacific also have separate apps, websites and logins for their loyalty programs

  • Nice promo just can't justify the $1000+ on attaining gold as I already have priority pass

    • +4

Gold is not just for lounge, it’s for priority check in. Extra luggage, partner airline benefits. Singapore airline have much better lounge than priority pass. As does Qatar and nz airlines

      • +1

Yeah I get all that. Guess it's up to the individual to make that judgement themselves but in my case I travel with hand luggage only, Perth aspire lounge is fantastic and if I'm going long haul I'll generally be in J anyway. Still tempting though

  • Probably a dumb question so please be kind. If we book a flight using velocity points, does the miles flown still count towards accumulating more points (albeit a less quantity obviously) or not at all?

    • +3

If you book a Rewards flight, the answer is no

      • Thanks 👍

  • +2

Is it possible to change or upgrade an already booked flight to get the double status credit?

    • +1

Haha of course not. You can cancel and rebook tho. Prices will vary drastically.

  • Most people don't fly enough to keep their status… would that be correct?

    • +1

Many fly enough to attain/retain gold (interstate relatives, interstate school events, work, etc.).

I have a few friends who fly regularly to Europe for work. Company pays the ticket, they earn the SC.

      • -5

I don't think most people would even fly once a year

        • +1

What are you basing that on? I've been to the airport many times (as a traveller and to drop off family). The airport is almost always crowded regardless of the time of the year.

          • +1

            @ddhar: An educated guess

Most people don't have a frequent flyer program just like most people don't care about bargains like we do here in this community

and out of 25million Aussies I don't think everyone takes a flight each year. I mean yes there e.g 50million flights each year domestically but a lot would be the same passengers

I'm just saying unless you are a frequent traveller, most of the population won't fly enough to keep their flying status.

Yes mate, the airport is the designated place where you go to catch a plane and drop off / pick up passengers and usually busy. Thanks for letting me know.

            • +7

              @Poor Ass:

I'm just saying unless you are a frequent traveller, most of the population won't fly enough to keep their flying status.

The entire idea behind status is for those who fly frequently.

If you don't fly, why would you care or benefit from status? Not sure what the point of your post is.

              • @p1 ama: just a general statement

                • +11

@Poor Ass: Yes, but that would be like going to a PS5 deal and saying most people don't play video games…

  • Does Qantas typically follow with a similar promo in the next few days / weeks?

    • -1

They usually tend to do these at the same time, one will go first and the other will follow, but not always.

    • +3

I'd be surprised as Qantas tends to only run them once a year in March, or at least that's been their practice for the past couple of years.

    • No. Usually in March with very targeted offers sometimes in Q4.
Booked my entire planned business flights back in March during the DSC. 5500 SCs before the doubler.

      • You must be lifetime platinum at that rate.

        • 56k DSCs to my name, give me 5 years

  • anyone know if you register for the promo and then book via the business portal - does the promo apply ( I cant se any reference in the t/c) thx

    • Yes, in the past I booked via corporate travel agent and received the bonus SC.

  • thats the corporate portal that has you as a ff

  • rang virgin and answered my own question

  • +1

sorry the answer was yes - bit distracted booking fares atm - for those who pursue status - these offers are gold ( pardon the pun)

  • Anyone got any experience with cancelling flights with VA and how long the refund takes?

  • +1

Does anyone know whether the bonus status credits earned via this promo are counted as being "earned" (A) on the day you take your flight? (and simply just take time to appear in your account) or are they (B) only "earned" on the day they drop/appear in your account? (which from the T&Cs, seems like it could be a random day up to 4 weeks after your flight)

I'm Silver and about 50 status credits shy of Gold today, but I have 120+ status credits expiring in the next fortnight. So booking and taking a return Economy Choice fare in the next fortnight should - in theory - get me across the line to Gold. But only if the bonus status credits are deemed as being earned on the day I take the flight.

If the bonus status credits are not allocated for up to 4 weeks after the flight, my 120+ points will expire and I will be left short of the target.

    Hoping for scenario (A).

    Can anyone confirm?

    • +1

In my experience, the credits appear 1-2 hours after the flight or 1 day latest. YMMV of course.

I could be wrong but I believe the credits earn date is based on the flight date, not when it reaches your account.

    • +1

Yes - SC are attributed to the date on which the flight was taken. Usually points and credits will land in your account with 2-3 days but even if it somehow took the full 14 days for the credits to land in your account, Virgin would usually recognise what has happened and upgrade you to Gold anyway during your "review period" or if not you could call them and explain the situation and they would see that you completed the required travel in the appropriate travel window to honour it.

  • Quick question: does family pool also share the eligible sector to the main account?

    • -1

      Yes it does

    • +1

It does not share eligible sectors on family polling

  • Anyone know if payment method impacts eligibility (i.e. if I pay by travel bank, is that any different to card?). A friend is chasing SC, and I told him to cancel and then rebooking the same flight… (appears to be same price). I couldn't find anything in terms and conditions; but I recommended he just pay the $15ish to be on the safe side; not sure if I made the right recommendation, or if I should hand in my OZB licence

  • Does this stack with existing tier levels?

For example, if I am Gold, I get an additional 75% (1.75x) SC. So will I earn 2 x the base SC, or 2x the Tier SC (2x on the 1.75x that I would already normally earn)?

    E.g.
    Standard = 2 x 20 = 40SC
    Gold = 2 x (20x1.75) = 70SC

    • +2

      I get an additional 75% (1.75x) SC

No you don't. That applies to points, not SC.

      • Oh since when did they get rid off that? I used to get them up until last year by the looks of it

        • +4

It was never a thing. Those SCs you got were part of a promotion just like this one and was not status dependent.

  • +3

do i earn double sc if activate this offer but i book thru travel agent or any third parties?

    • +1

      (2) after offer activation, book and ticket an Eligible Flight during the Promotion Period and enter a valid Velocity membership number at the time of booking;

I'd say it wouldn't matter how/where you book as long as you put your FF number in when booking … but I'd like to have this confirmed too!

    • +2

My work flights are booked via Corporate Traveller which is an arm of Flight Centre and they earn the double SC.

      • Can confirm this is the case for Serko Travel as well.

  • Man just booked the family holiday last week. Everyone pools to me and could of made >100 SC extra SC and made gold. Looks to cost $99 to cancel each ticket so not worth.

  • perfect timing. looks like im going to have to reschedule a few work trips to get it in earlier to get my double points. :)

  • does this stack up with family pooling?

    • +1

      Certainly has in the past.
