This is a great multi-device mouse, good price. I've got this and a K780 kb, great combination.

    • The problem is that it doesn't work that well on a shiny desk. I had A4Tech mice a decade ago that didn't had that problem.

      • You might be better off with the MX Anywhere 3. Works on glass so it should work on your shiny desk.

      • Yes, can confirm that. I carry a mouse mat around when I am moving with it.

A laser mouse is supposed to work on any surface including glass, but this is not a laser mouse.

  • Great mouse except no USB-C charging which I prefer (I know pros and cons). Just wondering how it has fared for people using it for a while. I've used mine for about 6-9 months and the scroll has started to play up intermittently. I have to switch the smooth scrolling off now and it's still fine but the smooth scroll is a bit hot and cold at times (just doesn't scroll until I move the scroll 2 or 3 times). Mouse is clean.

No issues here, purchased May 2019. I've only changed the batteries twice as well.

It might be a good idea to return it under warranty before it runs out.

    • +3

I have had this for nearly 3 years and it is still fine. I use it on Windows with old school "step" scrolling, and I use it on Mac with the smooth scroll wheel.

      Haven't had any issues really.

    • +3

I've had mine since 2017-ish and for the last 2+ years I've been abusing it daily as a draftsman. Only issue I've had is very occasionally my button/gesture settings don't work and I have to start up Logitech Options for it to work again

      • On a mac?

        • Nope - various different windows PCs

          • +2

@jocro: It's no better on mac. Logitech Options is rubbish.

    • I've had mine since 2020 and use it for multiple hours every day. It's also in and out of my bag multiple times every day. Hasn't missed a beat. Great mouse.

    • Been using one as my work mouse for the past year and a half, no issues at all - batteries last a long time so not having USB-C charging really is a non-issue.

    • I've had mine since early 2018, no problems at all after 5 years of daily use. The rubber near my pinky finger has rubbed off, but that's the only sign of wear.

  • +2

I have this mouse along with the K850 keyboard.

Fantastic combo, they both have the 1 | 2 | 3 separate device connectivity via either USB receiver or Bluetooth.

Also would recommend getting LogiOptions+ to get that full customisability.

    • -1

      so does K855

      • K855 has the bolt receiver

  • +6

Fantastic mouse. Got ones for home and work.

Note: the entire palm surface is a rubber grip material.

If it starts getting sticky, it's probably because it's getting too dirty (and not because the rubber is deteriorating, which is what I used to think).

Best way to get it back to new is to scrub with isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol).

    • -1

      with isopropyl alcohol

Or, if you live in Australia, metho (denatured ethanol). Easier to find.

      • +1

I’m pretty sure alcohol breaks down the rubber coating. I used to clean my phones before with alcohol that has same rubber coating and they deteriorated quick. Got super sticky

        • Yep….that's exactly what it does…

  • +4

Not dumping on this at all, but it's worth mentioning that pretty much all Logitech mice that take AA batteries last for insanely long times. My daily used G305s are still going after a year on a single battery (but they are not multi-device). Logitech mice are generally great.

  • Is this mouse OK for gaming?

    • I've used it with Lemmings on a MS-DOS emulator and it was performed well.

(There can be a problem panning to the left and right, as the mouse changes automatically to the next PC's screen - but that is a configuration issue, not a mouse issue - it has still killed many Lemmings).

    • -2

Not sure but it will definitely make you faster on the swim, bike and run leg in any triathlon

    • What makes a mouse not okay for gaming? Lack of LED lighting?

      • +1

This mouse is terrible on bluetooth especially FPS. Read my comment below.

        • +3

Many mice are extremely iffy with Bluetooth connections. That's part and parcel with Bluetooth. That's why with this one you use the radio-frequency Unifying Reciever dongle- no noticeable latency issues for me.

Just seen too many 'gamers' ask if a keyboard, a mouse, a router, or even a chair is good for 'gaming' when they have no idea what they are really asking about.

          • @rumblytangara: Many bluetooth mice are terrible for gaming and that's no secret but its no longer an excuse when many cheap gaming bluetooth mice exist these days such as Logitech, Razer etc.

Most people bought this mouse for its multi-device capability (which is why i used to own this back then with K850) so knowing the terrible bluetooth performance for gaming is important as technically you're limited to one device unless you want to keep moving the dongle around from one PC to another.

            • @meong: When someone tosses out the standard 'is dis gud for gaming' one liner, I strongly doubt they're talking about a scenario where they have multiple PCs set up for FPS.

So I see your point from a theoretical perspective, but context is more important.

On the theory discussion, if it was important to have a multi-device FPS-compatible mouse, you could probably just run with multiple Unifying Reciever dongles- off memory they're about $10 each.

              • @rumblytangara: Sounds like an issue from how you perceive the question, not the question itself.

      • +1

On a site like ozbargain many of us shop gifts for others in things outside our area of expertise. It's not a dumb question just a noob one.

To answer the question, yes this is a great mouse for pretty much anything.

        • Not good for gaming on bluetooth though… Really choppy even for non-competitive gameplay…

    • +2

People don't realise this is a valid question.

This mouse is NOT okay for gaming in Bluetooth mode.

But definitely okay for gaming using 2.4 Ghz dongle.

If you have multiple PCs connected at home, keep the dongle connected on the PC you game the most.

I had this and even playing light graphical games like Borderlands 3, i was surprised that it felt choppy until i realised the big difference when using 2.4Ghz dongle despite the fact many bluetooth gaming mice exist such as Razer Orochi with no issues for gaming.

By default, 2.4Ghz can only be used for Device 1. But there is a separate Unifying Receiver app that you can use to assign the dongle to a different Device number.

  • +1

Thanks for all the wonderful feedback. I purchased one. :-) not sure if I will use it with all my gaming mouse and mx master 3, but will give it a go.

  • +4

    These are great meese.

    • +2

I think you mean mouses 🙃

      • +2

"Mouses" was a commonly-used plural form in the early days of computer mice (i.e. the 80s and early 90s).

  • +5

Beware the thumb button hidden under the rubber right near the base of the mouse. By default it brings up the task switcher and if you don't know it is there you may begin to suspect your computer is haunted.

    • Oh wow, thanks for the tip, I never noticed this button lol.

  • Amazing mouse and this is a great price for it. I use it to switch between my home PC and work laptop set up very frequently. Works very well with the Logitech MX Keys. Mine is coming up on 1 year and I've just had to recharge the battery in it. No issues with anything else though.

  • I got this back in 2015 from Disk Smith (retail stop during closure sales) and it is still going strong
While I also got MX Master, I actually prefer M720 as its weight is slightly lighter and I also feel more comfortable

    • The same model? I believe this M720 came out late 2016, after Dick Smith had closed stores. Maybe you have the older M705? I had that before the M720 also.

      • Just checked mine is a M720 and from memory I got it from Disk Smith store (in Melbourne CBD)
but its been years I might be wrong LOL

  • +1

When working from home I use this between my PC and Mac, the screen flow is super handy. Work phone is an iphone so have found this to work well as I can send/receive messages without too much messing around.

No issue with battery life either

  • This good as a desktop office mouse? I always thought because of the name this was more suitable for mobile use.

    • +2

It's fine for this purpose. It's decently portable but can absolutely be your primary home mouse too.

  • +1

As someone else said the worst thing about logi mice like this and the MX is the rubber coating. After a few months it gets sticky and gross. I hated the feel of it. Ended up selling them and getting logi mice like Anywhere which uses plastic not rubber.

    • +8

Mine is 4 years old with none of that, just don't use cheezle hands on it.

    • The sticky melting surface is different from others. You know it immediately when you touch it if you hate it as much as me.

  • Currently using a Logitech MX Master 3s as a desktop mouse (had an original) and got this a few months ago for my laptop.

So happy with the purchase, just perfect for my laptop on the table and taking it in the bag on the move, it is a good mouse by comparison with my MX and less than half the price.

Never an issue with the rubber on my logitech mice and have been using them for more than 15 years. I do clean them with sprayNwipe occasionally and don't use with dirty hands, maybe that is why the rubber lasts.

    • When I mentioned it would get sticky the rubber never actually peeled, it just naturally would feel sticky under your hands. Good you didn’t have that experience maybe it’s just different skin types. Lots of others have definitely commented same (like in Reddit).

I think over time though, and I’ve experienced this with Android phones in the past, the rubber does eventually peel and become actual sticky like glue. Using alcohol to clean such rubber speeds up that wear from my experience as it eats away at the coating.

Anyway that’s my Ted talk on silly rubber coatings.

      • I've had the same with rubberised peripherals coatings in tropical humidity. Even if a device wasn't really used, they'd just go tacky over time.

  • Thanks OP!

This is why I love OzBargain. Flew interstate this morning for work. Remembered when I got there that my wireless mouse was broken. Figured a Bluetooth one may be handy since I struggle with available ports and prefer not to carry USB hubs, but wasn't sure where to start on the research etc. Check OzB at lunch and find the deal, the upvotes and positive comments, and managed to walk to Officeworks from the Hotel after I finished work and pick up my new mouse for almost half price and no hours of indecision.

  • +1

I'll never not upvote this mouse, it's worth every god damn cent, it's amazing. Buy it, just do it.

  • for a lefty, heavy use on this mouse for a year now , only because it did come with enough buttons and functions , the shape is customised for right hand.

If MX3 master lefty version is release , go for MX3, no brainer .

Any one would recommend a better a lefty mouse will be much appreciated!!!

    • Logitech Lift has a left hand version.

      • Yep checked that before , unfortunately , buttons on that model is so limted, it doesn't support left and right clicking on the middle scroll ,and also miss extra button on the side :<

  • Officeworks back to $69 so $38 price beat should be possible.

    • Thanks. Actually I had the wrong link previously and was looking at the good guys being $40, not OW, fixed up now. Thanks for letting me know.

  • Thanks Op got one. Also all the glowing comments here did help.

  • Was looking for a new portable work mouse and here it is :) thanks for the comments and cheers OP for the post!

  • Great mouse, it's a bit heavy at 135 g though probably not an issue for most people. Not sure if Logitech have any ultralight mouses comparable to these:
    Finalmouse Starlight-12 Small (42 g)
    Ninjutso Sora (45 g)
    Finalmouse Starlight-12 Medium (47 g)
    Finalmouse Ultralight 2 (48 g)
    Asus TUF M4 Air (49g)
    G-Wolves Skoll Mini (50 g)
    Pulsar X2 Mini (52 g)
    CoolerMaster MM710 (53 g)

  • I use this at work, it's decent, but I find it feels extremely cramped compared to my MX Master 3 at home, as well as the placement of the device switching buttons being poor as I constantly accidentally click the button and then wonder why my mouse isn't working. I think if it was 20% larger it'd be great, at this size it's just decent.

  • Very heavy.

  • Does this mouse connect seamlessly without delay on the Mac when you wake the computer from sleep mode

My Logitech m650 takes a while to wake up

  • +1

    Available again at Amazon

  • Not sure if I got a dud, but I grabbed one from Big W and it was awful. Stuttering mess on both dongle and bluetooth, tried the dongle in multiple usb ports (both usb 2 and 3), multiple computers, with and without hubs, extension cables etc. I returned it. My MX keys keyboard is perfect both via dongle and bluetooth, and I have a selection of Logitech bluetooth, wireless and gaming mice, none of which have this problem.

    • You must have got a dud, as I have found them to be quite a good mouse.

    • Totally have a dud. Mine not only tracks well, the latency is very low.

I would consider another, they're fantastic.

Maybe bad mouse surface but generally my 2 track very well

  • If the M720 is being phased out, I wonder what its replacement will be like?

Would be good to see one with:
    1) Laser technology (to work better on more surfaces)
    2) The ability to disable a device slot on the mouse (so that if 3 was disabled, the device change button would alternate between 1 & 2 only.
    3) If point 2 is implemented, add support for a 4th device.
