Bridesmaids Dresses under 200 Bucks - Help!

I am getting married in Feb next year and I'm looking for bridesmaids dresses. The bridal industry is very confusing and I'm finding myself overwhelmed. Every advice article has an agenda or is trying to sell a product, and there are so many websites and stores. If anyone has any advice on where to find good quality dresses under $200 each, I would really appreciate it. I'm sure there are other equally confused brides out there who would find this useful

Have you tried looking at formal dresses on the likes of the Iconic? e.g. https://www.theiconic.com.au/santina-midi-dress-1742933.html

I also think Bec & Bridge would do nice dresses, but might be over budget. Forever New?

      thats what my wife did
went to Review during the sale and got them
since its Feb wait until the boxing day sales! (also sizes could vary from now till feb…. lol)

      • Review Outlet back in the day was perfect

    • Thank you kerfuffle, I hadn't heard of Bec and bridge, I'll check them out.

Every advice article has an agenda or is trying to sell a product

Because the bridal industry is literally just about making money off a single day of your life. You'll not get good advice from anyone that has a vested interested in you buying their stuff

Hope your big day goes well.

      true
      i need flowers, 100 bucks
      i need flowers for a wedding 1k

      • No way you can find flowers for a event for 100.

        • +3

you can…. but it'll be "flower", not "flowers"! ๐Ÿ˜‚

      • +2

Nothing to stop you buying a $100 bunch of flowers and using it for your wedding.

I just told mine to get their own. I simply asked that it be in a colour range to match (blue). They happily obliged and were thrilled at being able to buy what they liked that suited them. The dresses were worn multiple times as they were essentially evening wear.

If you feel the need to pay, stick to evening wear. Keep it simple.

    • +3

Agree with that option. Provided the colour matches the dresses donโ€™t have to.

Forgot looking for bridal dresses as that's going to give you the mark up - just look for formal dresses

      • To be honest I would go to that wedding. Looks like it would be a fun one. I don't own a suit so I decline functions that require me to wear a suit.

    • Absolutely. Some get brand new dresses as over supply or past season throw outs from stores.

If youre in Adelaide, head to the charity shop row at Findon - wedding dresses sub $200 brand new

    • Shipping kills the deal

      • No it doesn't.

    • Hahaha I don't think my bridesmaids would talk to me after the wedding if put them in Ali express plastic bags

      • Yeah but finicially they'll still be your friends

We got our groomsmen suits and bridesmaid dresses from DFO (Connor and Portmans). Picked a colour/style that we liked and the store did all the sourcing for the sizes - went back in after a week and picked them up. The groomsmen suits (suit, pants, shirt, tie, shoes) were $150 each and the dresses were $60 each

    • Addig to this - Boss DFOs are currently throwing out suits for $179. If there's one near you, this is a great groomsmen option.

Ohh that's a good tip, I'll let my fiance know

No one is gonna care if the bridesmaids are wearing werid clothes

    Most wedding are forgettable affairs.

Our own vanity and ego makes it seem otherwise

Just make sure people are fed and have grog and you are fine

    • bridesmaids are wearing werid clothes

      What ????

    • No one is gonna care if the bridesmaids are wearing werid clothes

Yes, they will - wedding photos for evidence

  • Boohoo has decent styles suitable for bridemaids, under your budget too.

    • No need to cry.

Years ago a friend chose the fabrics for her bridesmaids and then they each got a dress made that was of a style they wanted. Unfortunately the fabric had a fleur de lis pattern and 3 of them had the dress made with it the right way up and the poor fourth (country girl….) had it made with the flower upside down

Anyway, for a Feb wedding cant you get away with the bridesmaids wearing a cotton summer dress; or look on ASOS, it has a heap of what seem to be pretty appropriate dresses for under $200

    • wearing a cotton summer dress

pink hot pants would be more appropriate.

We avoided this hassle by not having a bridal party ๐Ÿ˜
But as above, mention wedding and price suddenly doubles. We got our cake from a cake shop and just said it was for an event. Never mentioned wedding.

    • Just gave out doughnuts.

      Cake is overated.

Depends upon what styles you (& your bridesmaids) like and also availability of sizes. I had the bridesmaids dresses made from scratch as I had to cater for very different body shapes for 2 of the girls so the styling had to be quite specific.

I recommend going instore with the girls & trying on various styles to see what works best - take photos & use Google image search to see what other brands may offer in similar styles for better pricing and go from there. You may find that you will need to allow budget & time for a seamstress to alter the dress/es for a better fit.

    • Thank you Kajke, that's good advice. I just really want my bridesmaids to feel confident and like what they are wearing

My bridesmaids got their dresses from JJ's House, I just provided the colour and they all picked styles they liked and would feel comfortable in. They all loved their dresses and I was really impressed at the range and quality, it was actually much better than what we found in store with the likes of Forever New etc. Good luck with everything :)

    • +2

My wife did the same in getting same colour different styles from jjs house.

Added bonus you can get matching coloured ties and pocket squares for the groomsmen.

FB Marketplace - Shona Joy, Forever New, Bec and Bridge. Lots of past bridesmaids selling their dresses.

Wedding and Dress together results in 25% increase in anything and everything.

  • Forever new online. Huge selection great quality

  • Lots of comments on here about how weddings cost a lot (more).
This is true only if the couple want to have all of those things (brides dress, grooms suit, wedding party suits/dresses, wedding bouquet and other flowers, wedding cake, catering/venue, music, etc.).

The only part that is actually required is an authorised celebrant. All the rest is optional, but it isn't anyone else's concern apart from the wedding couple.

  • Gumtree or FB marketplace…no bridal party for us as well, keep it simple :) congratulations

  • I got my bridesmaids their dresses off ASOS five years ago but if I were to get married today Iโ€™d get them from Runaway the Label

  • Another Option is the Infinity Dress, We sourced some for around $ 100 AUD from NZ Store. All the bridesmaids can wear the same colour and depending on body shape mix up the style or all have the same style. Lots of purchasing options online & won't break the bank.

  • My bridesmaids dresses were from Forever New for about $160 each, I waited til they did an online promotion and ordered them all at once.

I got mine from Chancery on the Iconic, cheap, good quality and they do multiple styles in the same colourway so everyone got to choose what they feel confident in. Got each dress for under $100, even got shoes from Spurr for under $50 (Iconic always on sale, can stack with other deals… etc) Hopefully current season is the same! If not Spring season would definitely have some good choices.
