Is It Worth Getting The AppleCare for AirPods When They Only Cover 2 Years Vs Australian Consumer Law?

I purchased the AppleCare for my AirPods Pro and just realised that it's only covered 2 years. I thought it's 3 years cover (this is what I remember for iPhones and Macs)

Anyway, that's my mistake for not double checking purchases. Just wondering what's the consensus with AppleCare for AirPods? If it's only covered for 2 years, that's basically covered by Australian Consumer law. Unless you accidentally damage/lose it, then I think that's when AppleCare is worth it.

  • I have found by having AppleCare Apple generally look after you and will fix your airpods even after the warranty period has expired. I have taken a pair of airpods in and they replaced them even though it was outside the warranty period.

    • Interesting. Might try my luck

  • The battery will degrade in 2 years generally speaking these are disposable products…

    • Correct. ewaste product

    • thats why you try walk into the store and ask them to look at it for you - if nice enough they can replace free of charge :) not saying they will always do it but its happened to me personally and someone else i know.

Not acceptable for pods costing $399 so should be covered under ACL if battery degardes that quickly

  • I think there is a 30 day cancellation period if you change your mind. Might be worth asking if you regret it. There also seems to be a per incident service fee.

    • All good, I bought them in 2020. Just wondering now on my next purchase, if I should include the AppleCAre

      • No probs. Personally for AirPods I wouldn’t.

AppleCare is realistically more insurance for your product than it is warranty.
