Data Sharing - What Happen to $5 Data Sim?

So I finally got my hands on a cellular tablet, thought I could share the 500gb data from my mobile plan to the tablet (not via tethering or hotspot), now all the telco’s want a seperate plan connection, from $10 - $20 a month, that comes with its own data allocation, then I can pool data.

I swear you use to be able to buy a $5 SIM card, and just share the crazy amount of data I get on my mobile. I don’t want to pay for more data on a seperate connection.

Is there an OZB hack I don’t know about? Or have telco’s just realised this is a way to boost their connection numbers, and I am SOL.

Is there an OZB hack I don’t know about?

Do you know about the Dominos hack ?

    • They definitely used to do it as a $5 one-off. I stuck with it for years, because old plan + that was so much cheaper than two plans. Only changed plans because I moved away from the city and you basically need Telstra to get reception.

  • Optus used to do a FREE extra SIM (or it could've been $5 - memory failing me). We have a couple of these SIMs on our fleet/account that use the data pool.

So there is a OzB hack but you need first find the deal for a time machine…

  • Optus used to do it for a $5 per SIM one off fee. It didn't take them long to realise it was not a good business idea, so they can it quick smart.

I still have 3 of these SIMs sharing data with my old plan. That's the only thing keeping me with Optus, the moment they take that away I'll be gone.

    • I got a letter recently telling me they're migrating me to one of their new plans, I had 4gb roaming included in my plan. Keep an eye out cos they may do similar for your situation

  • The trick is these days to get work to reimburse you for your mobile expenses.

  • Optus had that around 2 years ago. No one has it now which is a shame. Had to get their $10 plan for my iPad.

    • What is the $10 plan. I can only fin d a $20 option with Optus currently, $10 add on if you’re on a $69 plan with Telstra.

  • Some providers do have data "gifting". I think Woolworths lets you "gift" data from one person/account to another.

  • It costs $10 for watch plan, I doubt anyone will give you $5 data plan.
