  • Any cruiser around that price?

    • Perhaps one of the 700CL-X models, though they're not LAMS.

    • +1

I see Kawasaki has listed their eliminator 2024 on their website. Not available yet and it will be a new model so I expect it to be close to 9k, or just a slight premium over the ninja 400.
      https://www.kawasaki.com.au/en-au/motorcycle/eliminator/stre…

      • Oh wow the Eliminator is coming back!? Had great fun riding the old VN250 as the first bike with the v twin. Looks like a much bigger bike than it is.

  • +7

I own a 23 cfmoto 1000 uforce, honestly the biggest piece of shit I’ve ever owned currently in talks with the acl about claiming a refund under lemon law.

    • +1

Woah that's unfortuate, hope you get the refund sorted out soon.
I don't know much about UTVs, but seems like reviews are general good regarding their motorcycles.

      • thanks mate I hope so too. the general talk of cf moto Sxs is they are great and reliable but the clutch is horrible. I've sadly got a genuine lemon and refuse to have it repaired anymore. It got to the point where they either refund me or ill park the piece of shit out the front of their dealership with a big do not buy these LEMONS sigh on it

    • +1

      That sucks man!!

I was going to make a point about repair and reliability about the brand but your comment says it all.

      Glad you shared 👍

      • yeah, it's upsetting as the dealers have been out 8 times now. last being yesterday and he said he doesn't know what to do anymore They've tried everything and it's just been problem after problem after problem. My father and I like the machine, besides all the problems it comes with. we should've stayed with Kubota or gone for a Can-am but the cf moto had the same if not more features for cheaper. Here's my review/experience so far im yet to be contacted directly by cf moto and I've sent a few solid emails. so my only option was the ACL

  • parallel twin engine….

    • +2

Yeah. Basically the same as any 650 lams that isn't a single

    • allegedly licensed kawasaki 650

    • parallel twin is standard, what did you expect?

  • +8

If you want trouble free motorcycling, highly recommend any Japanese brand. Parts will be much more accessible (either from manufacturer, or from scrapyard). Second hand 650 class bikes can be had for this price.

    • +8

+1 Why would you buy Chinese questionable quality when for a few bucks more you can get a quality Jap bike.

make up your own mind… you dont have to go 650 but this is like for like

the Honda 500s are around $10k

        • +8

I would recommend buying a slightly used bike of any of those models instead of the cfmoto.

  • +1

I own a cfmoto 800mt, can't comment on the 650NK but for my 2 cents if you are looking at the brand.
CFMOTO are the Licenced manufacturer for all KTM models now and most of the CFMoto bikes are made on the same factory floor.
I can't talk to the 650 engine but the 790cc engine in my bike is same at the KTM790 and so far I am very happy after nearly 10months and 7,000km.
One guy in Perth just clocked 80,000km on his after 18months of ownership and I still happy with his purchase.
Bang for buck with these bikes is outstanding.

    • +1

and yet people are still disregarding it because it's Chinese…

      • they are chinese but at this point its got so much foreign dna in it that its a mess

the gfx is german, kyb susp. brembo lite brakes, efi emissions pack is bosch etc

i mean if you can afford a z900 or something italian, go for it but its slim pickings under $10

        • But most of the bike is still Chinese.

The kyb suspension was decent. Arguably better than my mt09 now.
          The jjuan/Brembo brakes were decent.
The Continental abs brakes worked well.

The Chinese tyres were pretty shit.
          The the headlight was terrible.

You can't just slap a few quality parts in a bike. It all needs to be good.

          • @edrift: The headlight on mine 800mt is great. The spotlights that come standard light up my dark road without a problem for 400m.

      • +2

i own a chinese ute and i still think cf moto is shit

    • people are just going to say that KTM are all shit because theyre made in china…

    • +1

I own an 800MT also and have put 10.5k km on it since Feb.

Has not missed a beat in all sorts of weather, rain, hail or shine. And I do certainly abuse it out n about.

More reliable than my old Aprilia and Suzuki, despite what these comments would tell you lol.
It does vary massively in the model you buy etc from what manufacturer.

But the 800MT is more of a rebadged 790 Adventure.

  • +2

    Buy japanese all day

  • +9

Avoid like the plague. If you have your learners get a second hand ninja 300 that will be forever reliable. If you buy one of these bikes you won't be able to sell it, even though you want to get rid of it.

    • +6

Completely agreed, resale non-existent and known reliability issues, would avoid.

    • +1

+1 again on the ninja 300. Put 40,000km on mine before selling it and had no doubts it'd go for another 40,0000.

Kawasaki used the same 250/300cc engine platform for decades, there's a reason why you still see GPX250's on the road.

    • +1

please do not abuse the neg button. It is still a deal after all even though you may not like the brand.

      • It's not a deal though - if you want a deal pick one up for 3k on gumtree because the lister has had it up for 2 years with no offers then spend another 5 repairing it.

        • -1

It is a deal because it is still cheaper than RRP. Whether it is a good value proposition is best judged by the buyer.

You've been on this website for seven years, you know what upvotes and downvotes are for and no one needs to remind you how they work tbh.

I've had two CFMOTOs motorcycles (2021 and a 2023 model) and I've been happy with them. The ride quality of the 2021 300SR was average, but the 2023 450SR is very comparable to an equivalent Japanese bike with decent ride quality. Great value for money when you compare what's in the market.

For anyone concerned about parts availability, in my experience, CFMOTO parts have arrived faster than Honda and Suzuki. CFMOTO bikes and parts are distributed by Mojo Motorcycles out of Melbourne and they're a mature operation now.

Not sure about the quality of CFMOTO ATV/UTVs, but there's often complaints about them on social media. However, their LAMS motorbikes 2020+ seem alright.

    • +1

The fact that you had to shop for parts for 0-2 year old bikes says enough.

      • Bingo! This reaked of shilling.

      • +1

How do you service a bike otherwise with out parts?
He could have done 30,000 km in that time, needed new brakes, chain, clutch, fluids, filters etc. All reasonable.

        • you're arguing about the definition of 'parts'… if you need a new starter motor then that's unusual

but if its consumable 'parts' like rotors clutch etc. then that is normal

even so there's many cars and bikes that will chew up stuff that it shouldnt

i've had cars from the likes of toyota nissan mercedes vag that needed 'parts' in the first 2 -3 yrs where you couldnt get them except thru a dealer… usually expensive

once past 3yrs you could get whatever thru repco supacheat etc.

I bought a 2017 cfmoto 650nk brand new back in the day.

I got rid of it a couple weeks ago.

Back then it seemed like good value at $6500 ride away for one of the most powerful lams bikes available.

It had issues from day one.

On the first ride home from the dealer it was leaking oil from a faulty oil pressure switch.
Within about a year the gear indicator stopped working properly. It would show you being in the incorrect gear.
Shortly after it would randomly cut off the engine while cruising on the freeway. This was due to a faulty tip over switch.

The paint quality was rice paper thin and paint wore through the rear sets in months.
Mirror stems started to rust for no reason.
Rubbers degraded after only a couple years

For anyone who had the pre 2017 models, the ECU was guaranteed to fail regardless of how few KMs you had done on the bike (e.g failing in as few as 4000km)

Honestly I'd recommend buying a Honda or Yamaha used bike instead

  • +8

If you need a LAMS bike, just buy something used and Japanese.

You will drop it at some point while learning, and a few more scratches on your Honda won’t hurt the resale value much when you’re ready to buy a non-LAMS bike.
A CFMOTO on the other hand will have shocking resale value even if it looks pristine (and happens to still be running).

  • +3

As most people have said here, just go Japanese.. (coming from a Chinaman)

If you can't afford Japanese, even a Korean Hyosung would be more reliable..

Or you can get the non-original cheap, fake Ducati's that came out of Taiwan. Everyone's favourite garbage, the Megelli.

    • Didn't know Megelli was a ducati knock off

      • It isn't.. 😅 I just tried to spaghetti some words before it to hint at the ridiculous claim. I mean, for 2010 times, it kinda looked like a cheap, small-form Ducati. Well, from a distance.. 🤣 Once you get within arms reach you see how disgusting the whole build it.
