  • Link includes ad.doubleclick.net tracking?

  • nah, i just copied URL directly from dell website

  • So looks like no USB type C

    • +3

There is 1 Thunderbolt™ 4 port with DisplayPort™ and Power Delivery

    • +1

There is 1 USB type C. Funny they use intel official term " Intel Thunderbolt 4.0", it is essential the latest USB C and fastest transfer speed at this point and support Powerdelivery (PD)

  • Note:

    WVA

Wide viewing angle. It’ll just be a cheap and nasty IPS display with abysmally low gamut.

$1700 for a 3050Ti and a Vostro seems terrible. If it was a Precision, or at least a higher up Latitude at least you have the advantage of buying a top of the line business machine that's built like a tank and will probably have easily available spare parts for the next decade. I used an E7470 for half a decade until the battery swelled, busting the bottom cover, and it costed ~$100 to get a new OEM battery and a slightly scuffed shell from a dead system to replace it from eBay. A Vostro instead would be destined for the landfill.

    • +1

Agreed, at this price, a 3050ti is terrible

    • I'd imagine a battery would last more than 5 years before swelling

      • It was beaten up pretty badly going through uni, and for a while it was charged with a flaky charger where the cable was fraying near the barrel jack from being tugged around while being used in bed, where it got quite hot regularly as well. Not the most optimal of conditions

    • Agreed. If this was priced at sub $1,300 I can see the appeal since CPU is relatively new and the RAM config is good for upgrading to 32GB and the 1TB SSD is defo the icing on the cake.

250nits seems a bit skimpy, esp. for the price.

    • +2

Kills the deal. Anything > $1000 needs to have a decent screen.

  • AUAFFILIATES5% is a valid code, but isn't applicable to any items in your cart.

    • thanks updated post

  • +6

    Terrible deal

Specs are for a $1K laptop

$30 more last month got you a 3070 Ti and proper screen

  • +3

Bad deal for 3050ti and budget screen

  • I am definitely not an expert in this field - would this be powerful enough to play Oblivion with a decent amount of mods?

    • If this is a serious question, yes, easily. This is more than overkill if you're only playing TES4.

Oblivion is what, 17 years old now? It runs on my $500 2017 dual core craptop just fine, even with mods to stabilise the game and fix any bugs.

Keep in mind the game isn't optimised for today's machines, so running it above 60fps (which this will easily do) will cause weird engine bugs.

      • Thanks for the reply, it honestly was a serious question haha - last laptop I bought myself was an Alienware in 2011/12 that struggled with Oblivion. Lately I've had a hankering to play it again and have been looking out for a decent laptop with a dedicated graphics card.

  • Is 24GB MUCH MORE COMMON NOWADAYS!?

    • No it's due to only 8gb RAM being soldered on the motherboard which limits expandability.

Vostro are budge business laptops. This laptop is overpriced for the Spec with bad quality screen of only:

      16", FHD+ 1920 x 1200, 60Hz, WVA, Non-Touch, Anti-Glare, 250 nit, ComfortView

There are laptops with better screens and chassis for a similar price point.

      • cheers, like which betters u rrecommend ?

Not as powerful GPU with a 3050
Smaller 14" chassis, but better quality
Much better screen at 3k, 120hz, and 400 nits brightness.

You can upgrade CPU and SSD to be slightly cheaper than the Vostro at $1727.

My similarly spec'd vostro bought about 1.5 yrs ago only took 3 repair jobs to get working nicely. Works great now but not very confident with Dell build quality in Vostro line.

  • I bought one Vostro last year and it was the worst laptop I ever bought, it heats-up easily, poor screen and performance.
