  • Anyone bought one before? Are they meant to be random orbital or something?

    • I have one. It's not a dual action, it's an old school polisher. Less safe to use than a DA, but often faster. I prefer it over my DA for the polishing.

At this price, it's a good deal. I'll likely get another.

    • I used older version of this, not random orbital.

Used with foam pads not the supplied one.

This will burn your clear coat and leave horrible halo's in untrained hands especially with the heat a wool pad creates.

You need a dual action polisher with microfiber or foam pads for your car.

This tool may be forgiving if using on a boat gelcoat.

I'd spend the extra and get this if you need it ASAP. It's safer for newer cars but will be slower than the linked

  • Grabbed one

  • Also from their eBay store for those that can use JULPNA for another $10 off

how about this cordless polisher with 2 batteries included?

  • For a noob and starter in car polishing which of these would be safest tool ? Dont wanna damage paint

    • If it's just a car or two and the paint is in overall good condition a hand compound and polish is perfectly acceptable after you clean/clay bar your car. Follow up with a cheap sealant like Gyeon Quick Detailer for $20.

Otherwise just get this or see my comment below.

      • Just want to spend minimal effort and time on car cleaning …. I usually do compound/polish manually but i hate time and effort it takes for a single person doing all cleanup, vaccum , wash and polish…

The Mechpro 125mm MPBP125 is $100 at Repco right now with the auto club membership, which you get with most roadside assistance or via NRMA's free blue membership. It often dips to $70-85 on either Repco or Sparebox ebay. It includes 3 pads and is a simple dual action, more than enough for very simple paint correction or a light polish.

The fear over rotary polishers is extremely overblown. Everyone getting into detailing visits a big name youtuber who peddles the usual talk about DA's being better for beginners because they're safer, etc etc. While DA polishers are safer you can literally just: use a softer pad, milder abrasive, lower RPM, less pressure or work a panel less and a rotary is fine. The larger pad size is good for temperature control too, 180mm is huge.

You can get a rotary for $20-30 from cashies all the time, get some cheap foam pads online, 3Done polish and just start slow and soft while checking panel temperature and defect removal rate. You'll get all the results you're looking for, maybe even better. You can do the entire clean, decontamination, paint correction and sealing for less than $100 and get amazing results depending on your technique and paint.

  • Can someone recommend good polishing pads that will go with this?
Maguires ones are $45 each - not sure if I need to invest to do a bit of colour fading correction and mild scratches.

I'd recommend just getting this and seeing if it has enough cutting action for your taste at a higher rpm with slower movements and then low rpm and fast movement to use as the final polishing step. 250ml of 3Done Hybrid Compound Polish will work as a compound at the higher speeds and polish at lower speeds.

Depending on your paint that should get most mild scratches out and bring out the gloss, if not just go over it with the included wool pad or this:

You can then use the yellow pad you bought as a dedicated polishing pad to clear up any marring left by the wool pads. Just be careful using wool and this polisher together, it can be very abrasive and new cars have very thin and soft clear coats.

People usually recommend at least 2 of each pad, but you can get away with 1 if you're willing to do the polishing across 2-3 days. You'll need to clean the pads after every 2 panels by washing them in soapy water and spinning them out on the polisher on the highest rpm so the water can spray out, then let them air dry briefly. While it dries out you can use the other type of pad, etc.

Cheap ebay pads also work fine if you wanna just save a buck, just aim for thick pads designed for rotarys.
