      • some say the 8th & 9th Gen are the best refurb to purchase due to minimal usage in the office environment during COVID-19

        • That makes sense, I never heard about it and it never crossed my mind as well.

  • Can this connect to wifi? If not please advise what antenna can be used. Thanks.

    • Previous post with link to Ali express deal for $12 low profile AC1200 wifi adapter blocked.

Just search here for “wifi + Fenvi” and you’ll find some good examples.

    Hi All,

Generally how long does UN Tech take to dispatch from previous sales?

    Thanks

    • I ordered mine on Saturday and it hasn’t been dispatched yet, I reached out to their support and haven’t received a response regarding timeframes

      Hi,

It depends on the volume of orders. This was quite a high volume sale and for some reason majority of them required cmos replacement. We expect bulk of the orders to be out by Friday.

  • Anymore available? I missed out :(

    • Same here, waiting on the next deal to be posted, something along the lines of an 8-9th gen with 16gb and 256-512gb SSD would be great.

Calling @untech to the thread :)

    Just received my 2 x 7060's from UN Tech. Initial thoughts below;

Both units were received in under six business days from order, and were well packed with packing foam, bubble wrap and cardbord inserts to prevent movement in transit. Better yet, both PC's were impeccably cleaned and refurbed. Not a spec of dust on the inside or outside of either box, and were it not for a couple of scratches on the case and remnants of a blanking sticker placed over the unused SD-card cutouts on both facias, you would not know that either box had ever been used.

I didn't have a DisplayPort monitor or adapter at hand (one of my few regrets of the 7060 is that it has 2 x DP for video as opposed to the 1 x DP, 1 x HDMI of the 7050), so have not booted up properly to test either, but did power both up to see if either exhibited coil whine or any fan noise. Both PC's were inaudible and a soft output of cool air at the rear was the only sign that either were even on. Granted, neither were under load, but it's a good sign that they'll be fairly undetectable when fired up properly.

Both came shipped with a brand new kettle cord, and a bonus small 300M Wireless USB adapter, identical to this well reviewed wifi n/b/g dongle www.amazon.com.au/LOTEKOO-300Mbps-Adapter-Wireless-Network/d…. It was an unexpected surprise, so I'm not sure if everyone will be so lucky, but was a nice bonus for anyone who doesn't have a wired connection or dedicated antenna-based wireless solution ready to use. I haven't tested these dongles yet, but have received a couple previously from budget Techfast build's and on that occasion, whilst better ping times and range would have resulted from bigger, newer units with dedicated antennas, they were more than capable of providing reliable connectivity, so I'm hopeful that these near-identical looking units will do likewise.

Both PC's had blanking plates for the sd-card slot and optical drive, and neither had an optical drive - as indicated in the product description - but both happily came with a 3.5" caddy as I requested with my order. My units had only one free SATA power supply, and one free non-standard mini SATA power plug presumably for an optical drive, with two SATA data connections (in addition to one further spare SATA port on the mobo), so if anyone was planning on mounting multiple 2.5" drives instead of a single 3.5" drive (in addition to any m.2 drive - which both units had installed as boot drives by default), you will need at least one SATA power splitter, if your units are the same as mine. These are my first 7060-based builds, but I'm relatively confident I could finagle in two 2.5" SATA drives in the 15mm high void above the vented CPU and/or unused optical drive caddy, in addition to the 3.5" and m.2 drives using some gaffer tape and velcro if I wanted to maximise storage space.

All of which is more than reasonable, since they come perfectly equipped ready to be supplemented with an additional drive and/or replacement m.2 if you don't which to use the included boot drive - which I won't be. About the only disappointment was the memory modules. I had requested 2 x 8Gb dimms, which was duly honoured, however all four supplied modules were 2400T dimms - that is, presumably with native timings of 2400mhz, rather than the 2666mhz which the 7060 is spec'ed to run at, and I presumed included by default. Similarly, one of the two PC's had two unmatched RAM modules - one Hynix, one Samsung, which is not ideal for any PC running in dual channel mode. Given that the 2666 memory bus is one of the major upgrades of the 7060 platform over the cheaper 7050, this was a disappointment, not least since I'd planned to supplement both units with some matched pairs of 2666mhz RAM which I already have. All will now run at the slower DDR 2400 speeds of the included RAM. I don't know how much difference it will make in my intended NAS/plex server usage, but who wouldn't prefer RAM running 11% faster?

Anyhow, if that's my biggest grievance, I'm pretty happy with the purchase. I've never purchased a refurb before, and have read some horrow stories in here about other second-hand dealers reneging on promised spec's, bait-and-switching or providing units which may well have their best years behind them. Apart from the newer processor and faster RAM, one of the major draws of the 7060 range was it was a newer platform which may well have seen less service than 7040 or 7050's due to the more recent release and overlap with COVID shutdowns when many offices and PC's saw limited active duty. At $235 delivered, first impressions are positive, so here's hoping they perform as well as they look and sound once put into operation.

I'm off to read the service manual at https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/optiplex-7060-desktop_service-… to see what else we can do with these bad boys…
