The Tyrell's cheese and chives chips are very good

Can easily demolish the whole bag in 1 sitting… by myself of course

Good for the price ($6 RRP is laughable), and a nice change from the ol' Sprinters or Smiths.

    • Do you think there's another cup brand that is similar to tyrelks in terms of taste?

There's also all the other expensive brands like Proper Crisps but too much $$$

        • Can you get the Proper ones in Aus? I want to try the dill ones.

          • @Gregors510: Harris Farm sell them, probably some of the small independent grocers as well that sell other fancy food items

        • Wish we could still get the Garage Project collaboration hop-flavoured ones, those were awesome

Aren’t you supposed to eat them? Why would anybody choose to attempt to demolish a whole bag in 1 sitting? Kids today…

Edit: The bag does make a very satisfying pop and crunch sound, but it does make quite a mess. It was good advice to do it when no one else was around

  • +1

Just like all so called specials these days much ado about nothing.

    • -1

Agreed, not much point posting these anymore

  • +1

Is there any other brand comparable to or better than tyrells chips?

    • +1

Kettle is my favorite, they don't use artificial, preservatives, flavour enhances etc.

    • +2

There's Burts', but they're $$$ and not much better imo. Kettle, when also on sale, is good, and there's always Aldi's Blackstone chips which are pretty close but not 100% the same/better. But they're always cheap (comparatively) so 🤷‍♂️

      • +1

I really rate Burts' but only buy it when Aldi sell them at around $3.5. Tyrell's is the close second for me.

    • red rock deli was my favourite but i guess they changed their recipe? taste so much different now.

    • +2

      Blackstone

  • When's the next round of discounted visa cards?

I remember a previous thread had all the dates from previous years but I cannot find it.

Those Mission Tortillas are great to stock up on when on this half-price special. They're essentially shelf-stable and besides being decent enough tortillas, they're great when caught short to fill in as adhoc pizza bases or flatbreads to dip in curries, hummus, soups, etc. Always keep a stack in the pantry.

    • +2

Haha funny you mention that about pizzas. Domino’s Thin ‘n’ Crispy bases are Mission wraps. They have been for a fair while now. Previously they were classic crust rolled out thinner.

  • Thanks again, though nothing for me again in the list.
Looking at the brochure carrots $1kg

  • Is it just cocobella straight up?
    Or w/mint and choc too?

  • +1

Thanks OP, going to stock up on Tyrell's

  • Lebara SIMs are on sale now.

  • Curious if anyone manages to get the Creative Gourmet blueberries on these sales. I always find they're sold out already by the time I go for them :(

      Get a raincheck

      • How does that work, in practice?

        • It gives you 1 month to purchase at the same price.

          • @Yola: Okay, but how does it physically work? You show up and walk up to the service desk and ask for a raincheck on a certain product, show them the item on special off your phone?

Then what, they write your name down, put it aside for you to pick up on a certain time and date?

            • +2

@Grazz989: You go to the service desk. Show them the special in the printed/online catalogue, prices on some items you see on Coles Online are not available in store. They usually call someone from that product area to physically check the stock, it could be at the end of the ailes also or some in the storerooms. Sometimes they may already know there is no stock. Then they fill out a small form entering the name of the product and the date. They will ask how many you want. The max is 6 items. They hand you the form. It is valid for 1 month. When you return to the store you go to the shelves and get the item, as it's no longer on sale it will usually be in stock, and you complete your shop. When you check out you hand the price check to the operator and they will override the price charged. I usually do this before I even scan the items. They will take away the rain check

            • @Grazz989: Yola has covered it all pretty much but basically a rain check is a little docket of paper about the size of a raffle ticket. They fill out the details and you hang onto it and bring it back when the item is in stock and get them at the previously advertised price.

You don't need to show them the special in the catalog necessarily, there will usually be a Special price sticker on the empty shelf where the product is supposed to be. You can show/tell them that.

              • @wavesgreen: Cheers. Had no idea this was a thing. Will be giving this a go for sure!

                • @Grazz989: Oh yeah this is definitely a goer for maximising on those juicy specials that are always so popular they sell out on the first day. Grab a raincheck and make out like a bandit at your leisure!

Just be aware there are some items where rainchecks don't apply. Things like sim and gift cards, and anything that is advertised as 'No rainchecks'.

                  • @wavesgreen: See - My tactic before was to do a click and collect order on the Tuesday (i.e. last day), and schedule it for several days in advance. That way it had the chance to regain stock again.

However, that's not great when you have to settle on $50 worth of stuff when you might not that much, some of which might be cheaper in the next week's run of specials.

    • Same. Something fishy, Always sold out at Coles when on 50%.
I got 2 bags at 50% discount from Woolworths a while back

      • There's nothing fishy about it, you customers just froth buying blueberries for your smoothies. We probably go through 4 boxes of homebrand blueberries a day (12 per box) compared to one or 2 boxes with the other frozen offerings. Creative Gourmet isn't very popular unless the homebrand is sold out, maybe when it's on special too

        • Just checked this…..
The Creative Gourmet mixed berries bag, are cheaper than home brand per 100g.

I hadn't tried the home brand before, and added to my list for straight frozen blueberries, which are cheaper, unless that CG brand are on half price special

  • +2

Weakest Colesworth combined catalogue in ages

  • Maybe just 2 or 3 coincidences in a row but, I feel like Coles' next week specials are Woolworths' current week specials.

    • +1

No it's an industry thing where suppliers will rotate the promotions between the two chains.

      • Does that mean the supplier absorbs the 50% off? I thought the chains did to attract shoppers.

        • +2

The big ones you see cycle between the chains (Coca-Cola, Cadbury's, Arnott's, Peter's, etc) have deals with the supermarkets. They essentially pay for end displays and prime positions in store, close to entry, checkouts, etc, and often send in their own reps to set up the displays and stuff. Who ultimately "pays" for it I guess comes down to the deals made.

  • +2

just grabbed 10 x packs of tortillas.

    half price. bargain
