Red Energy - 2 Weeks and Still Not Swapped over, No Response to Emails

Hi All,

I am currently on Origin taking advantage of the $150 credit, however their rates are through the roof and so 2 weeks ago I spent alot of time looking for the best deal which was Red Energy, so I signed up with them.

Since then I have heard nothing back and no responses to emails. The Origin energy bills are now stacking up and I need to switch energy providers asap.

Is it normal for there to be a 2 week period before changing over to Red Energy? Previously swapping energy retailers it has been pretty quick. Thinking that I might just go elsewhere as i've read others have had issues with Red Energy and their slow responses to issues as well. Would be keen to hear others experiences.

    Call them….

  • Red also increased their rate. But still slighter cheaper than EA for my area.

Call them they can fix it for you

  • What meter are you on? A smart meter? Accumulation meter? What state?

About half an hour on the phone waiting and getting transferred to different teams. They say they have a large back log of customers being switched over. Apparenty they say they will back date the rates from the last day of my last Origin bill, hopefully they do what they say they will do. Their estimate is '5 business days' .. lets see. Will update here

Probably a normal time frame, I decided recently to go with Globird over Red Energy (Sydney Lower North Shore) - it took them 24 days to switch electricity, and I am still waiting for gas to be transferred (32 days today). I requested switch on 30.6., the final reads of my meters were scheduled for 20.7. gas, 24.7. electricity. Seems that these companies don’t do much first 10 days - your cooling off period.

    • Are you on a smart meter? How can you tell when they have scheduled the final reads of the meters?

    • Glo Bird were slow to transfer my gas too, they said the delay was with the distributor when I chased them up

  • Something doesn't sound right here. Why would they need to manually read the electricity meter if you are on Smart Meter?

Smart Meter transition is meant to be really quick.

    • You are right, I may have telecommunications function turned off - so no Smart anymore. How long does it usually take to swith electricity with Smart meters? I still believe they dont do much first 10 days - just letting the cooling off period expire before they move a finger.

From experience, it's not exactly as instant as NBN but not as long as gas bimonthly. I haven't switched my Electricity for a while but if I recall correctly, it was within a week. To allow final reading and billing.
