  • Codes aren't stackable?

    • The system only allows one code per order — you'd have to do two orders to use both.

Softer, lighter and better insulated than other copycats on the market, this Alastair's quilt

Lol it's probably not a good thing to be saying that out of all the copycats, your copycat is the best - no matter how great it is. ;P

    Hi OP,

Re quilt, what proportion is feather, and what is down?
Also does it only contain either duck feather, or duck down (nothing plucked from a chicken, for example)?

I would normally expect this kind of information to appear on your website.

    • 95 Soft Duck Feather 5 % Down feather No Chickens

  • What is the thread count on the Quilt cover sets? Are they actually Cotton SATEEN, in the true sense of the word, or are they just Sateen stripe, as in, the stripes are just a description of the design?

    • Hi The thread count is 325 thread count. Cotton sateen is a word describing how the fabric is woven. The yarn is woven not straight but on an angle to create a softer effect. The stripe is also woven in a Dobby Jacquard weave. So it is both a sateen and Dobby Jacquard Stripe.

      Regards

It took 13 days to have my order delivered last time, ordered three quilts but really disappointed with Queen size one - very thin, not as as advertised (500gsm Wool Quilts), Single and Double ones are fine. It seems I am not alone:

    • 13 days is acceptable and as stated in our terms. Seconds are Seconds and sometimes they are thinner, the weight is probably there.

      • +2

what seconds? are these quilts Seconds?

        • not these something i advertised weeks ago

      • +2

Not a little bit thinner, after folding up, the Queen size one appears only half the thickness of the single one! It was false advertisement, just didn't bother to waste my time to complain to ACCC. No reply from your customer service, really doubt if there is one.

  • How much bigger is your Super King vs King ?

    • Hi a king is 210 x 240cm a ssuper is 240 x 270cm

      Cheers

  • The 95/5 feather/down ratio is quite different to most I've seen that have 20% down to 80% feather. Not sure how much the difference effects performance, anyone know?

      "Down vs. Feathers in Comforters:
Down is used for insulation and loft in duvets and pillows and feathers are used for bulk and durability for feather beds and some pillows. Sometimes these are mixed to create a firm, durable product. The more down in the mix, the fluffier and more expensive the comforter or pillow."

      Type of Down for Comforters:
These comforters are in order of quality. Please note that in some comforters labeled "pure down" or 100% down are not pure, as some feathers remain in the fill. As long as the comforter is 75% down it can be labeled 100% in many states.

      Siberian Down (Best)
      Hungarian Down
      Goose down
      Goose feather and Down
      Duck feather and Down
      Duck feather (Worst)

I only go for the mainly down ones these days, though they can be expensive. I've usually heard them described as doonas. If it ends up folding over itself, and you end up lying on it, well it becomes pretty flat so no big deal. It's the height of the loft that insulates. I can't stand the wool quilts for example because during your night stupor you can end up lying on the quilt itself, which can be quite uneven & bugger you up. I don't like being buggered up in the morning. This also became a problem with a feathered one i had, but i think that happened because i tried to clean it & the feathers became all clumped up.

In my experience Quilts Direct are well priced, but they generally deal with the low end of the market.

  • I've just received my King size quilt.

Why does it smell so much like a duck? It literally stinks!

    • +1

They are natural sir it out it will be fine it's been in plastic a while

      • +1

I've aired it for 1 weeks and it still stinks!
I've read that poor quality duck quilts (eg seconds) stink because they haven't treated it properly and the duck fat makes it stink.

I'm returning it and asking for a refund.

Just needs a bit of airing…
