    Friggin LOVE this Monitor!!!!

    • How is it for games? I don't need competitive FPS refresh rates, as long as there's no real ghosting or whatever, just the color and contrast are very important to me.

        • +1

          lol

        • Have you even used one? eIPS monitors are usually just as good as most TN monitors when it comes to response time.

        • -4

          nvm

      • +2

I use a U2410, no issues with response time. I highly recommend the Dell IPS monitors for all purposes, gaming included!

        • Thank you!

EDIT: Seriously though… No HDMI? No dice :(

        • +2

Is that really an issue though?

DVI is HDMI without the audio - if the monitor does not have speakers then it's rather pointless having HDMI. An adapter from ebay will set you back $1.50 if you really want to use a HDMI cable instead of DVI cable…

        • It's an issue for people who want to play their PS3/360 on it. Of course along with HDMI it would need to have an audio jack to get the sound to proper speakers.

        • +1

My U2410 has HDMI input and a headphone jack output o go to external speakers for this exact purpose.

It's a shame they got rid of it with the U2412M! Handy feature!

        • The U2410 is an extra $200, an HDMI-to-DVI adapter is $2 (only differences are connector shape and audio, after all).

          Not an issue.

        • I didn't say to get the 2410 instead, I was just saying its a shame they got rid of them. I agree, the 2410 probably isn't worth the extra $$, but I paid a fair bit less money for my 2410 (2nd hand) than a 2412 costs. Much of a much eas between the two though.

        • Note the U2412M is 16:10. You can change HDMI to DVI, but the aspect ratio will be skewed for devices that don't support aspect ratios outside of HDTV (i.e. BluRay/PS3). X360 is fine though.

        • +1

Hey KayDat, X360 is fine as in? showing letterbox or stretched images?
and do we have to lower the resolution, instead of leaving it at 1080p?
Please tell me if you know the answer as it would pretty much determine whether or not to pull the trigger.
Looking forward to your respond and thanks in advance.

While games will look beautiful on this people should note you actually lose field of view on most games in 1920x1200.

        For example in Diablo 3:
        1080: http://i.imgur.com/q6hXK.jpg
        1200: http://i.imgur.com/3znD7.jpg

It's up to you whether this loss is worth the gain in quality. Matters more for really competitive games like SC2 where the loss from the sides is quite a handicap.

        • How does a increase in vertical pixels affect the horizontal pixels?

        • +2

It's just how most games are coded these days (commonly called Hor+). Vertical FoV is fixed so you won't ever be able to see more on the top and bottom.

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_of_view_in_video_games#Co…

You can always play games in letterbox with a 1200 screen to not lose vision but that's not everyone's cup of tea.

        • Thanks. I wasn't aware of this. Rarely play games these days and haven't since owning this Dell monitor.

Shouldn't be too much of a handicap. I'd imagine those with single monitor would be handicapped compared to a dual monitor setup any way.

        • +2

          Bloody 16:9 ruining everything…

  • +3

Amazing price for the Dell U2412M, oh wait… never-mind.

I own this monitor and quite like it. Will buy another one day.

  • +1

i get so scared now…what if i buy it this sale, and they decided to drop the price next sale?:P the price only been a year now~

    • +3

      Buy it.

    • +11

      Be a man.

      • You know you want it. Go onnnnnn!

      • +1

was that a reference to russel peters :)

        • Do the right thing!

    • Get a 28 Degrees Mastercard with price protection insurance and pay off the balance before the statement is issued so you don't actually pay the premiums.

    • +4

More of a man if you don't buy it.. remember it's only a bargain if you truly need it… easy to get sucked into unnecessary purchases with ozbargain… I should heed my own advice.

    • +1

It's been like a year and this is the lowest it has ever gone for.

    • price has dropped already, i've spent nearly $1000 for the same monitor. regardless its an excellent monitor.

  • All time lowest price! Love it :P

  • +2

awesome!! was looking at the dell fathers day deal last week and wishing I could buy one instead of the pair they had for sale then. Now this comes along - thanks so much for pointing it out! I'm finally getting a decent monitor for home!! woo!

  • +2

Will they ever drop the price on this? For the past 1.3 years+, the U2412M has always been $279 each time a sale is on :/ If only Dell dropped the price a bit more I'd get another one :)

Oh and don't bother with the ST2220L (or any STxxxxL monitor in general) - the quality of those (image, colour accuracy, build, stand etc) is rubbish.

    • +1

Can always fork out ~$300 for the korean 27" LG panels. Don't have to worry about prices going down, since you saved $400 to begin with (to a comparable monitor).

      • I bought a catleap last week.
But hear the prices have gone up.
27" too big anyhow. would prefer 24 i think.

        • Is that actually a good monitor? Seems like a steal if it is.

        • Do you think the apple cinema displays look good? These use the exact same panel, they take the ones apple didnt want (due to dead pixels or light bleeding). I got one of the first generation ones that overclocks to ~90hz, no dead pixels, a little imbalance in the brightness but only detectable on dark images.

27" 1440p ips monitor at 90hz, worth well over a grand i'd say.

Only downside is mine only came with a dvi-d connector (new ones now come with hdmi and dp), and a single 7970 never sees the light of 70+ fps at these resolutions

        • that's awesome. So I'd definitely want to keep my current 23" monitor around for games :)

        • What happens if you try playing something at 1280x720? These monitors are exactly double that (or four times, double width and double height) so it should look as "sharp" as native res (just lower res) right?

Does it just display an image a quarter of the screen size, though?

        • My model doesn't have a scaler so consoles wont work on it. But most if not all newish graphics cards on pc's have one so its not a problem. Pretty much the scaler is responsible for mapping out a 1:1 pixel ratio.

Scaler = plays any resolution using all pixels
No scaler = black boarders or it just wont show an image (most likely the latter)

As long as you stick to the same ratio (16:9) then it would look normal, you just get double the pixels. It won't be as sharp as native.

    • Curious, just how soon did the U2412 go on sale after it was released?

      Really want a U2713 but I don't want to pay $800 for it…

Then again, I suppose waiting won't hurt too much as there's finally some more competition in the 27" 1440p space with the new Asus and LG coming out.

  • What's the dead pixel policy like on these puppies?

I'm a little OCD, even one stuck / dead pixel would drive me bonkers.

Are any existing owners able to tell me if they have any defective pixels on their monitors?

    • There's a 3-year Dell Premium Panel Guarantee included with the monitor, which covers dead pixels.

      http://content.dell.com/au/en/k-12/d/help-me-choose/hmc-moni…

From what I read on whirlpool, their warranty service is excellent.

      • It covers bright pixels. I have seen tons of dead pixels and stuck pixels but not even one bright pixel. Not much of a guarantee.

The Premium Panel Guarantee has no mention whatsoever for dead pixels which is pretty worrying really..

        • Oh, sorry I misread. Skimmed over the warranty; got confused because they called the bright pixels dead pixels.

    • I bought two of these puppies a year ago and both have a dead pixel on then, my then account manager seemed to care very little (she left not long after), the next account manager I had was a rude c*w (she left as well after 3 months), and my current one suggested calling spare parts who then told me they don't sell spare parts (replacement panels).

So while its a great monitor I'm bitterly disappointing with my purchase and would caution anyone expecting a 'care factor' from dell if an issue arises based on my personal experience..

I did buy another one for a fellow employee and low and behold no dead pixels, just my luck that when I paid for it out of my own pocket twice I got two lemons (and working with photoshop/illstrator every pixel counts!)

      • It's a good thing that should 'anything' happen to the unit, they replace it.

    • +1

I had a cluster of under-illuminated subpixels develop a couple of months after buying my U2412M, appearing as a very annoying grey dot about the size of a full stop. That got me a replacement, and the return process is excellent as on previous occasions - new one shipped out next day, old one placed in box, courier booked to pick it up at Dell's expense.

With regards to the pixel policy, the question is how they can check a customer's fault description against it (many wouldn't know what a subpixel is let alone how to count them). Given how their return process works, there's likely a wide gulf between what the pixel policy says, and actual customer experience - how much it annoys the user may guide the matter more so than the pixel policy.

The official Dell eBay store does the U2412M for $279 (free postage) at least once a month. They also do the U2711 for $674 down from $899. Just look at the purchase histories of the items in the eBay store to see how often they are on sale.

    • Seems like they have this deal once a month so if you don't need it, just wait until the deal comes around again. I also read from other OzBargainers that you can negotiate this price when they don't have the sale.

It's a good monitor. My brother bought one and loves it.

      • -5

Which is why I give it a negative. Effectively, it's the standard undiscounted price.

I make no comment on accessory pricing. Only the U2412M

        • are you retarded? justaquestion

        • What negative mate?

  • +1

Great monitor and great price. Good for (macro) photo editing.

I've had it a year and nothing wrong with it. I also find Dell support, for anything, online, very good.

  • Bought one of these recently (on sale at the same price). Great monitor, highly recommended.

  • I've got a 2407wfp and might grab this as a new primary monitor, just wondering though, how is the response time on this compared with my 2407wfp? Which I recall being 6ms g2g - this one is 8ms g2g…

    • I wouldn't bother upgrading, as long as your 2407WFP hasn't got any dead pixels etc, it's still a good monitor! If you want to go to dual screen, then the 2412 Would be a good choice.

The response time difference would probably not even be noticeable even if you had them side by side. Only one way to figure it out though.

  • Finally bought one of these monitors. Looking forward to the upgrage from a 17" LCD.

    • +1

17"!!!! I haven't been looking at something so small since Windows 95 (rocking a cream 15" CRT)

      • +1

Same, but Windows 3.1 for me, kept that OS until Windows 98 SE!

      • I did have a 22" but had my desktop PC put away as i was using a laptop more than the PC, and during that time sold my 22" as it was being used.

  • I bought 3x U2412M a year ago, love them to bits in eyefinity! but have moved to tiny apartment with no room so need to sell 2 of them :(

    • Pity you're in Melb and not Bris, otherwise I'd have one off you at the right price, the OzB price of course. :)

  • -6

Lol, I think it's time to put Dell "bargains" posted here on the ignore list.

It's been posted nearly 20 times already over the last 10 months, and each time it is $279.

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/U2412M

    • It's still a deal, isn't it? You can't get it anywhere else cheaper right now (or ever, I believe), and certainly not in the interim since the last time deal was posted.

    • +2

Unlike you, some of us don't come on here every day and scour every new bargain that arises.

I have a real hard time understanding "OzBargain syndrome": consistent, unnecessary whinging at people who make a concerted effort to HELP OTHERS SAVE MONEY.

    • I agree, even though I will get negged to oblivion by the mob.

If you just ask the sales reps, they will give it to you for 279 every day of the year.

So how exactly is it a deal?

      • +1

then all the Apple product shouldnt be on this website now.

        • derp apple products aren't 10% off EVERY DAY.

        • +3

they are is you ask for it

        • +2

actually 10% is like standard now.

  • or, you could do what i,ve done and go to Dell's Direct Factory Outlet (online). I took the plunge on a Refurbished model for $195 incl 12month warranty, and it's flawless. The advantage is that they've already had their techs give them the once over and so you can be sure there are no dead pixels. I liked the refurb so much I bought a second refurb. Then shortly after that a brand new one came up for sale in their DFO store for $226, but with only a 12month warranty for that price. So I bought it too for my triple monitor setup. For the price, these are great screens. If you want the three year warranty then pay the higher price, otherwise 195 or even 226 (including delivery) is a steal.

    • Factory outlet deals usually get posted when they are on. At the moment, the outlet isn't selling any 24" monitors.

      • I see 2

        DFO-HC55PAU..NEW..Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24 Monitor with LED..1 Year..Midnight Grey..None..2..$ 226

        • I bought one from the outlet about 4pm - there were still 2 left then (including the one I bought) so I guess there is now 1.

They do come up there all the time though - so if you miss out, just keep checking back.

  • if you wait for them to get posted on this site, you're most likely gonna be to late. And in any case, I picked up these three within the last week (1-6 Sept) and I didnt see any of them posted here.

  • i really wish to get 1 of these, however i am a console owner *both xbox360 and ps3.
At most of the time i game on my xbox360 and im aware of the aspect ratio thingy since U2412 runs at 16:10.
So my question is will i get screwed up images since xbox doesnt support 16:10?
i did quite some researches and i saw people posted in forum saying that they need to lower down the resolution to around 16XX in order to get a proper image.
Is it true? has anyone here ever come across this issue? Thanks in advance.
