Is It Possible to Do Food Delivery on Scooter? (Not Electric Scooter)

Unfortunately electric scooter isn't allowed in NSW, hence I'm looking at doing food delivery service (e.g. Uber Eats, Doordash) casually on a normal scooter.
Is it a bad idea? Are there any pros & cons of doing so?

P/s: I don't have a bike. Shop/restaurants area in my town are very busy with lots of people walking on the footpath.

Edit: I'm referring to the foot powered–use my legs type of scooter. For example, Razor kick scooter

Why not just use roller skates ?

  • GET SWOLE! snorts preworkout

    • idk about you but the only thing i get from pre-workout is just increased anxiety and the feel of ants under skin

      • Never taken it, ants under skin…. eeeewwwww that's meth'd up

        • its the only way i feel energized tbh - only lasts about 10min maybe

it is possible as demonstrated by a Youtuber, but the amount of stuff you can carry will be limited and hanging a pizza box off your handlebars is going to be a little iffy.

you'll definitely need some Dencorub on your legs after you've finished

Here is a guy delivering 30 pizzas on a balance board thingo.

      • Loading up and leaving the pizza shop. Delivering? To be continued…

Despite the prowess, the pizzas are getting cold… fast

  • Doesn’t need to be a good bike, just get one and stick either a basket on it or get a pannier

I think we need to define 'scooter'. Are we talking small motorbike scooter or foot powered use your legs type scooter?

    • Unless OP has edited it since you commented, he specifies it is not an electric scooter.

Still doesn't answer the question since a "small motorbike scooter" is petrol powered, i.e., not electric.

    • Thanks. I've edited my post. I'm referring to the foot powered use my legs type of scooter

I remember the good ol days of Uber, seeing a bicycle icon on the screen doing 80km/hr down the main road thinking boi he pedallin fast. (was a moped scooter )

I'm ordering Uber Eats this w/e - first time in a long while - & the restaurant is 2 suburbs away which takes approx. 10mins by car. I do not want cold food to be delivered by you on your 'leg day' scooter.

Still might be cold since some drivers don’t bother with hot bags these days and just put the paper bag of food on their seat or floor.

      • hmmm ….have not seen insulated bags used other than for pizzas however never had an issue with cold food being delivered from this restaurant so don't jinx it.

    • If you order a sausage/kranski/frankfurt the rider can keep it warm for you :O

    Pro:
    - Save petrol
    - Avoid traffic if deliveries are near

    Cons:
    - Slow
    - You could potentially accept an order which can be 1 to 2 suburbs away and this will take you alot of time to get there and it's not worth your time and the money you get isn't worth it
    - Food may end up being cold
    - Food may end up damaged and there's a high chance it will

If you're looking to become a driver majority of your time, invest in a road scooter. You can pick one up cheap around 3k, and you can zoom past traffic or better yet get an e-bike, prob get one used for like $500

  • Nope. Get a horse (with flouro harness etc and led lights

  • This will destroy you, treat yourself to an e-bike

  • Is it possible? Yes
Is it a smart idea? No

    Computer says no

  • Sorry like your enthusiasm but just not practical as the distance of the vast majority are going to be more than several blocks away.

  • You'll probably spend more money buying new shoes than you can make delivering food.

    Pro's:
    - Economical
    - Don't have to worry about fuel

    Con's:
    - You will get exhausted sooner or later
    - Will take minimum twice as long to get the food to its destination (This will affect your service metrics + You run the risk of receiving negative reviews)
    - Food will likely be cold by the time it reaches its destination (This will affect your service metrics + You run the risk of receiving negative reviews)
    - The likelihood of you slipping, tripping or losing traction while carting someone's food increases significantly… I doubt Uber will cover such a circumstance and it may come out of your pocket

My suggestion would be to use an Electric Scooter (eg. Moped) or an electric-assisted pedal bike (although some of the above points do still apply, but atleast it will be less tiring so you can go further for longer = More $$$).
