I've had this in my cart for a while after looking for a child-friendly 3D printer for our kids to learn about 3D printing. It was $399 when I first added it and I thought it was good value at the time. It dropped to $199 then $169 and now at $149, I couldn't resist.

I already own a heavily modified (by me) Tevo Tornado printer I've had for some years so I'm not new to 3D printing. I was attracted to the great features and ease of use of this for the kids with an education specific slicer app and wifi printing. I'll also use it to print ABS as I don't have an enclosure for my Tevo so this will serve that purpose nicely.

Reviews seem really good. There's also a good review by Maker's Muse on YouTube here. He rates it.

Why do you want to use it for kids? Surely the natural way is much more fun.

    • +3

      At least you tried

Hmm. Sorry mate. Way over my head. I just can't make any connection between what I wrote and what you're saying. No need to try and explain. It'll just make it even less likely for me to find it funny.

      • Good old tevo tornado. Finally retired mine and replace with the anycubic vyper.

        • My Tevo is still going strong. The next move for my own use will be something like a Bambu X1. I just can't kill the Tevo.

Would be more expensive than $150 for the finished product though 😂😂😂

Better to get a bambu lab

Another classic unexpected Friday night purchase of a product I had no interest in until it was posted here.

    Thanks OP.

Haha! I too have a staggering collection of Friday night OzB inspired purchases. This is the way.

    OOS :(

Damn, that was quick! I'll expire the deal.

  • Now it's in my wish list.

    • I was about to buy it. :(

  • Good deal, thanks! Does this come with filament? And which online guide is the best for beginners?

    1 Back in stock

    • +1

I was refreshing but looks like someone grabbed it first :D

  • Damn looked good. By the time I watched the review it was gone

  • Haven’t used a 3D printer before
    Any recommendations for a beginner?

    • ender 3 usually isn't too bad, or a second hand flashforge finder from marketplace if you don't want the messing around that enders usually require

  • Back in stock. I got one and there is another there.

  • Someone got it. Gone.

  • +1

It's back in stock for $199.

    • I just bought one. I don't know why. Justifying as a dedicated flexibles/enclosure printer to accompany my Aquila X2…

I am enjoying 3d printing as a hobby, so I guess the day of a second printer was inevitable.
[Edit: upon further review is seems it doesn't do great with flexibles so cancelled…]

  • What do you guys print with 3d printers? Semi interested but unsure what sorts of things it’s useful for… printing Lego?

    Anything else?

    • +1

Wargame miniatures, game pieces. Have a look on Thingiverse website for thousands of ideas.

    • Heaps of stuff. If you get into CAD the list of endless.

      Functional:
      - fixing broken plastic things
      - other random custom mounts/brackets/things (e.g. I designed some baby proofing locks for our cupboards that don't require screwing)
      Storage solutions:
      - gridfinity
      - Honeycomb storage wall
      Toys:
      - Lego parts
      - duplo/marble run
-other random things/fixes (e.g..we bought a toy from an op shop that was missing some bits. Designed and printed them out)

      • How long would it take for someone who knows nothing about CAD to become semi proficient?

        • Hard to known without knowing you…

I'll say I got my first 3d printer about 3 months ago, and other than a bit of tinkering in SketchUp for random things over the years have no particular CAD experience and I've managed to design some cool stuff to print/remix in fusion360 with the odd YouTube tutorial.

There are other software that people find 'easier' to learn and use like tinkercad. But it honestly depends on who you are and how easily you learn new things (particular software).

i have never used a 3D printer, but it arrived today and i'm having a great time printing random stuff from Thingiverse :)

Just convert 'slice' the stl files using the supplied application and good to go.

It's an incredibly satisfying hobby when things work…

      • Love it, making parts for out of print games !
