Westpac Altitude Black Credit Card Annual Fee Waiver

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone here has tried asking Westpac for credit card annual fee waiver recently?

I am currently holding a Westpac Altitude Velocity Black card and has a monthly statement of approximately $10k and repayment made in full every month.

Do you think it will be possible for me to get my annual fee waived?

Will be keen to know if anyone has tried or experience with it or any tips.

Thank you!

no harm in calling and asking. My understanding is the waiver is becoming less and less likely. It'll likely depend on your spend (yours is not bad but hardly high), year with the bank and if you have other products with the bank.

Do you have a mortgage? If you move to WBC, sometimes the CC will be part of the wealth package.

    • thanks for the input.

i've been with the bank for about 5 years i think(?). and no, i've got no mortgage with them, only savings and credit card.

will try to call and ask closer to the end of my first year.

  • let us know how you go.

Sometimes they may offer you 50% off or some extra points to retain.

Be interested to see how WBC is treating these requests going forward.

    TIA

I have Westpac Altitude Black - Qantas. Also have loan in which CC is included as part of package, managed to get them to waive my annual fee (charged in Feb), despite them initially saying sorry they can't waive this years, only next years. Can't think of how you will get it waived without going through the retention team / requesting to close card unless they do it?

    • May I know who you called to have it waived? And what changed between them saying no to this year's and them waiving eventually? thanks!

      • Once was via their phone line. That was where I was told no can do. Second was via a hyperlink once logged in to the Westpac App which still ended up being a phone call, but skipped a fair bit of waiting around. That consultant gave me the different answer. They applied the credit to my account as a ‘gesture of goodwill’.

    I wish you luck.

A few months ago, I contacted Westpac via live chat to find out if retention offers are still something Westpac offers for credit cards. The live chat person told me to either go to a branch or call the card services team (1300 651 089).

I thought it would be easier to call, but when I did that, I ended up talking to seven people over the phone in 45 minutes. I kept on being transferred to different people who gave me various answers as to how I could go about discussing a retention offer. For example:

    • One person said the card retention team no longer exists if you call over the phone, but still said another team should be able to help. (The person they transferred me to could not help.)
    • Two people said the card retention team still exists over the phone, but then transferred me to the wrong team.
    • The last person I spoke to thought I was looking for hardship assistance, but when I said that my current credit card balance is $0 and I have never had issues paying off a monthly statement and I was merely seeing whether an annual fee waiver is possible, they said I would need to go into a branch.

I went to a branch the next day, where I was told to book an appointment with a banker for later in the day or the day after. I was also warned to not expect an annual fee waiver, because that is something that is usually not given out anymore. I told the staff member to close my credit card, because I wasted enough time and was fed up with the situation lol

    • Same experience I had with Westpac. They are a bunch of Muppets. Cancelled immediately. Applied and approved same day with Bankwest, able to use credit next day with digital card and physical card arrived 3 days later.

30 + years with Westpac, Black Platinum card had two years of zero fees then full price.Expended approx $20k per year and $0 balance every month This year Westpac doubled fee and no budge, so I cancelled and opened at Bankwest $0 fees 10 k overdraft and great changeover service, never happier!

    • great changeover service

      what's this?

  • Filled out all documentation, sent passwords and activated account for me to ensure success in 2 days!

  • As of March 2024, I've tried calling Westpac to ask for any discount or fee waiver for my Black card and they do not offer them anymore. Instead they just ask me to either downgrade to a different card or close ur card account from the Westpac app.
