  • They are ok for a pre packaged meal but a bit bland.

Thai curry was good but be careful with this brand as lots were past expiry date. One was expired a year ago

      That is a Woolworths problem.

I bought all five varieties, three expired late next year and two late this year.

Stupidly I didn’t check the dates before I bought like I usually do.

These are nice but the rice always smells so strong of plastic.

Tried this last week, got sick last week, and made a decision not to buy again last week. P.S: It was Dhaal version and I believe meat versions are worse since they are preserved to be stored at ambient temps with tonnes of preservatives

    • +2

I had the Dhaal last night.

I bought every type and decided to try the one I thought I would like the least.

It wasn’t bad mate, for $3 with rice at 400g it’s a good deal and easy to prepare.

I tried it once and it was not good at all. Nothing close to authentic butter chicken.

  • +1

Well it's got 20% chicken, how is it not authentic

I tried a Butter Chicken one and a Satay one. For $3 I think they're worth giving a go, especially if you're looking for some cheap, easy meals.
If you can get over the fact that they're stored at room temperature and the Best Before date is 14+ months away, then it is good value. But personally, it doesn't "feel" right to me.
I'll stick to the $7 frozen meals.

  • What is everyone's favourite packet/jar butter chicken?

  • These are terrible. Watery curry, weird bits of chicken.

    To put it another way,
If you purchased 5,000 of these to feed the homeless, by the end of the night they would think you are the biggest (profanity) to walk the planet.

Aldi butter chicken is the best

  • i had the rogan josh today that i bought last time these were on sale. not a fan to be honest

  • At $3 it’s handy to leave at work in case you forget your lunch and are too tight to buy lunch.

I used to buy this a lot, but now I buy S&B Japanese curry sauce:

    https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/19614/s-b-…

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Hot-Curry-Sauce-Vegetables-210/dp/…

You have to make your own rice though.

    • Interesting.

Do you have to put them in hot water or can your microwave?

      • I use the microwave, but the instructions on the back says either method is fine.

I empty the contents into a microwave safe container, I don't put the packet in the microwave.

Bought 1 of each flavour of these. Had butter chicken and green curry so far. The butter chicken tastes like it's preserved with citric acid. The green curry is better but the meat looks like it came out of an army MRE packet.

In fact I suspect that these are military MRE repackaged for sale at the shops.

The rice is… sooooooooooft. Like it has been cooked in too much water before packaging.

So so far hit and miss for the 2 I've tried. MAYBE of the two I'd get the green curry again as emergency food. But only at $3 at the very most. Normal price is a joke.
