Midnight Fight Express leaving Game Pass and appears on PS Plus one week later, last month it was The Ascent. Is this a recurring theme? Not complaining though

Isn't Dreams one of the Essential free games this month?

    • +1

It is, but if someone signs up next month they will now have access to it.

    • +2

This should have happened long ago to keep the game alive

After finishing the demo for Sea of Stars, it is a must play especially if you're a JRPG fan

I couldn't find one thing bad about this game.

    • nice, been looking for a turn based rpg after finishing FF XVI.

  • +3

Lost Judgment is a great game.

OP, update title to PS Plus Extra and Premium.

  • Don't sleep on midnight fight express. The game is so much fun.

    • Does it have 2 player online, or is it solo only?

      • Don't think so.

        • Game would be 1000% better if they got rid of the story and the RPG progression which as far as I could tell didn't actually do anything. Neither did blocking or counters or the heavy attack. I got through about 10 levels using punch and dodge roll and then the game actually started to be a challenge. And I figured I probably wouldn't get any further unless I could figure out why none of the special moves were procing and realised I'd be having more fun playing Shredders Revenge or Streets of Rage 4 with a friend than I'd ever have playing this alone.

Thanks though, I would not have even noticed it if you didn't mention it. Also I think this has cured my desire to get SiFu so it saved me some money there… until it comes to PS Plus and then I'll probably get annoyed with that one after an hour too.

          • @CascadeHush: Interesting review - it's been a while since i played this but i completed all the trophies. I found it much easier than Sifu, though i platinumed that as well. Sifu was just a lot harder to master and in the end fight i could only win by running away and jabbing here and there, so i definitely suck at it.

Didn't know this game existed till this post, it looks like it rules.

  • Sea of Stars is exciting, loved the developer's last title

  • +3

Excited for Moving Out 2. Was researching pre-order deals yesterday so happy it is coming to PS+.

How is the Sea of Stars on this list, a new unreleased title. Developers need to enjoy rewards and spoils for making games - ain't gonna happen with subscription models.

The demo was awesome. If the full game is as good, I hope to see a follow up :)

Because Sony is paying them enough to make it worth it for them?

Sony doesnt get these games for free. Day 1 releases would get a much bigger payout, same with gamepass.

      • I hardly think so. Subscription models for multiple games monthly for new releases doesn't get you good returns. You simply receive royalties, unfortunately I have no idea how the subscription models work. They may pay royalties based on games accessed and played within that monthly subscription.

Of course Sony doesn't get games for free. Your most likely correct that day 1 releases may get a bigger cut, but at the risk of not being sustainable for future game development or sequels.

Obviously the deals can vary widely I imagine. Another element to consider is time. A deal to go on PlayStation plus extra could involve an advance payment. Such a deal could keep a developer's head above water. You have to give them credit that they've made the deal that is best for them.

Not sure what it means for the industry overall. It probably gives indie developers more exposure, but you could see it eating into retail sales.

          • @bp2000: On kickstarter sea of stars was hugely successful. Trying to understand why theyd go the subscription model. Haven't even seen a physical copy for pre order for switch. You could be right about them keeping the heads above water. Gaming budgets blow out now a days.

but you could see it eating into retail sales.

This is where sequels are funded too.

at the risk of not being sustainable for future game development or sequels.

I don't think any of this is sustainable; the number of games being heavily discounted or included in subscriptions and bundles. I think developers are in a gold rush but people have more games than they know what to do with. I don't think the market can sustain the number of developers and a lot of smaller devs are probably making a lot less money than they hoped they would. I think that Sony, Microsoft, Humble, Fanatical etc are taking advantage of that but I don't think it's good for the industry as a whole for the long run even though a lot of people are happy to have a bunch of bargain basement games for now.

So this dev looked at their chances and decided that the wad of cash from Sony was a sure bet rather than the risk of languishing in the store forgotten.

          • @CascadeHush: Willing to pay 70-100$ for physical copy of sea of stars with instruction book

They're not forced into it.. They accepted the offer because it's in their best interest.

      • Indirectly perhaps they do - I'm not an insider so I'm speculating here. What I do know is that marketing can be a huge cost for a developer. Advertising on these gaming stores you really do have to push specials frequently to ensure your game is visible in the console online shops, even steam, gog, etc otherwise your game gets lost at the middle to back pages.

    • does progress from the demo carry across to the full game?

  • Lost Judgement?
Hell yeah, don't mind if I do.

    Not bad Sony

  • Now live on PS+!

  • Noob question (never used PS plus): Do you keep the free games permanently once you're not a subscriber anymore?

    • +2

      No, you do not.

The PS+ Essential monthly titles (usually 3 a month), you keep for as long as you are subscribed or re-subscribe if it lapses.

The PS+ Extra/Deluxe/Premium titles are a Netflix-style catalog of games that you have access to while subscribed and they are still on the service (some games leave, new ones added every month).
