We have a similar Sunbeam designed kettle and I have to say, the old fashioned push/pull lid at the top is miles more reliable than the flip tops (generally those are the first thing that always wear out in a kettle).

    • This particular model in my opinion runs a bit tight over time. I sometimes needed to brace it on the counter top to remove it. Moved on to a Sunbeam Alinea Select and thats been good for the last 6 months - though so was the De'Longhi for that time period so only time will tell.

      • That's the model we have! So far so good for us too. I'm done with flip-top lids.

          Great minds ;)

Love the smart features and live temperature reading of the Alinea, just wish it had a temperature holding function then it would be perfect.

  • Looks nice. Can any owners of this tell me how loud it is please?

    • +1

Not loud enough to be annoying.

So… how is this different from a cheap kmart kettle? Does it boil the water differently?

    • It lasts longer

      • +1

At 5 times the price, it should last more than 5 times longer before i'd consider it a deal

      • I had Kmart one used for 7 yrs and is still working, but my wife wants to get this because of Kmart one looks boring. Unfortunately, this one only last 2 years and leaking, we just throw it away last week and get a nice looking one from Target

    • Something minor but we have a cheap kettle (Breville I think) at work and I have a DeLonghi at home.
One difference is that the cheap one when it's done boiling the water, if you don't wait 5-10s before pouring the water is bubbling a lot and spill a fair bit, with the delonghi you can pour straight away and it doesn't spill.
Probably not worth paying 5x the price but it's a difference.

  • Melbournians, is there a need to descale our kettles with our soft water? I have a white version of this and I've never done it after owning it for 5 years.

    • +1

Don't bother if it hasn't bothered you thus far. I do mine periodically as I get build on the bottom of the inside which don'ts look appealing & annoys me.

      • +1

Actually, while waiting for an answer, i googled and i thought the dark bottom on my kettle is just burn because weve turned our kettle with little water and found out that's how limescale would look lol.

Is vinegar okay to use or do you use a descaling liquid?

        • +3

Slice up a lemon and boil it with water in the kettle.

        • +1

I've used the store chemicals plus the lemon trick mentioned by LordFB also, vinegar should be fine.

        • Thank you guys!

      Just leave it, adds flavour.

  • Caution. These get very, very hot to touch on the outside.

    • Vessel holding boiling water gets hot. Got it.

      • Yes yes smart one this is a recipe for disaster … the outside gets very hot, like blister your fingers hot. Especially children, elderly or just yourself grabbing it at an awkward moment.

And when this is so hot … if you accidently grab the kettle your natural body reaction is to drop it (to pull your hands away). When filled with boiling water this is a bad outcome for yourself and anyone in close proximity.

These single wall kettles are dangerous for some households who may not realise it until too late.

All our past kettles were double walled with 'warm to touch' outer wall. We made the mistake. Have replaced with a 'warm to touch' kettle (which is then also much quieter boiling).

  • Good Guys DeLonghi Distina Perla Kettle (Mint) was $99 last Weekend Doorbuster Deal. I snoozed

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/delonghi-distina-perla-kettle…

  • have this..

    it's ok.

i missed my 20$ Aldi kettle for a few weeks after getting this, because you have to remove the top to pour water in, Aldi was a button press to open… otherwise it's good - not any different to cheap jobs, after 6+ months plus owning

  • I have it, does the job. Got it at the Delonghi store for 62 bucks around March. I guess it can go lower if you are not in a rush.
