Ampol No Longer Stacking Toyota + ER 4c Discount

Hi all,

I recently filled up at an Ampol petrol station in SA, that is compatible with both the Everyday Rewards 4c discount (after $30 woolworths shop) and Toyota Ampol discount.

After completing my purchase and looking at my receipt, I realised that the 4c ER discount wasn’t applied.

I emailed Ampol to clarify this, and got this response:

‘Hi XXX,

Thank you for contacting Ampol.

I can see on the receipt you have provided me that the Toyota 4c/L discount was applied to your purchase. Unfortunately we are unable to stack discounts so you only received the Toyota discount even though your Everyday Rewards card was scanned. You will still receive Everyday Rewards points from this transaction.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

XXX

  • Not 100% the same but filled up yesterday at an eg Ampol and RACV 5c was stacked with $30 spend 4c

    • Yeah not the same but still interesting.

Maybe I was just unlucky, as all previous times I’ve filled up I’ve been able to stack the discounts.

If anyone could report their experiences on this that would be great (make sure you fill up at an Ampol that accepts both discounts!)

      • The issue is that you were never really supposed to stack the myToyota fuel voucher with the Woolworths fuel discount offer.

I had a look at the Wayback Machine and it said back in 2020 in the myToyota fuel voucher terms and conditions:

        20. Offer is not available in conjunction with any other offers or fuel discounts unless specifically stated.

I have never seen the myToyota fuel voucher specifically advertise it can be stacked with any other offer, so it sounds like Ampol finally got around to patching their checkout systems to stop stacking.

To be fair, I have never been successful myself to stack offers at Ampol Foodary / Ampol Woolworths MetroGo, because attendants have always refused to let me stack offers!

        • After further correspondence with Ampol, it appears your theory may be correct:

          ‘Hi XXX,

Based on that second receipt you have sent me it appears the CSA had added an extra discount manually for you. Your Everyday Rewards discount was not applied on our system still as the Toyota discount was already applied.

          Thank you.

          Kind regards,

I certainly don’t feel entitled to the double discount, it’s just unfortunate that this may no longer be available :/

          • @fauxtographies: I had someone else tell me a few months ago an Ampol checkout refused to let them stack a Woolworths fuel discount with an Ampol partner discount (and I suspect they were referring to the My NRMA discount, which also states you cannot use it with conjunction with any other offer).

These restrictions may differ from service station to service station though, because Ampol Foodary / Ampol Woolworths MetroGo checkouts are not programmed the same across Australia. For example:

            • Tasmanian locations accepting the Woolworths fuel voucher treat it as an offline discount, which means if you have a fuel voucher on your Everyday Rewards card, it will not actually be redeemed.

            • Some locations accepting Everyday Rewards do not censor your Everyday Rewards card number, whereas some do. Meanwhile, Tasmanian locations accepting the Woolworths fuel voucher also do not even mention that you had an Everyday Rewards card scanned in the transaction.

  • yeah i can stack my nrma 4c off and everyday rewards 4c off without an issue

    • IIRC this was a recently implemented change on Ampol's Fujitsu Point of Sales (POS) systems. It now overrides the first discount presented.
There is also the possibility if the WW EDR card is presented second, it applies the WW/EDR 4c Discount (if it's at one of the Ampol owned 200+ redemption locations) as well as the EDR Points, redeeming/burning a WW discount from the EDR account as well as overriding the first partner discount.

  • Could be an SA thing?

  • Attendant must be able to override and stack.
Have the same issue with NRMA and EDR.. works mostly fine at my local, the odd one I just get the NRMA discount but still get EDR points.

    • Yeah I’m thinking that’s the case now.

  • Was it your usual service station or a different one?

    • The usual that I have received double discount multiple times in the past.

      • Going off that and the second email you mentioned it’s possible someone has conducted a revenue erosion investigation at Ampol and have decided to closed this loophole.

In my experience most places where you can use a discount won’t let you stack it with other discounts.

Guess you’ll be able to tell for sure after a few more fill ups.

        • Yeah for sure.
I’ll try it one more time next time I need to fill up, and report back.

  • UPATE: Today I filled up at the same service station as the original post, and the Toyota and EDR discounts were both applied. I guess I was unlucky last time, and that it is up to a customer service assistance to accept/cancel both discounts being applied.
    Hope this helps someone 🙂
