Car Freight Recommendations TAS → SYD

Salutations Ozbargain fam.

Bought an i30N in TAS, looking for recommendations for any freight companies people may have experience with.

I only saw an old post from nearly 10 years ago where someone mentioned Ceva.

Was weighing up flying down and driving it up myself but I think it'll be too much hassle with the rego expiring soon and needing to apply for a permit to drive unregistered.

Some estimated quotes are around $1300. Cheers

I would fly down and enjoy the sweet ride in your new set of wheels. Great car choice. Permits are easy to obtain and cheap.

  • Unregistered vehicle permit

A Short Term Unregistered Vehicle Permit (UVP), enables an unregistered vehicle to be used on a public street.

  • I'm in Qld and recently bought a car in Wagga Wagga. Paid a dude to drive it up, cost less than transport companies and got it next day, rather than sometime in the next 2 weeks.

    • Is that some random dude or someone you know ?

Some random dude 😂 Quoted me on truckit, had great reviews. Did an awesome job, organised the permits and everything.

  • You couldnt find one closer to home? theres lots of them out there?

    • Not many decent value options for the N.
Less than 100 on car sales .

    • Not for the price I paid for 😅

Pre COVID was $1200 door to door for a corolla Syd -Devenport. Closer to $1500 now and longer lead time.

Get your permit in NSW for travel originating out of state.. ferry fees, flight down & petrol $600-$800 and about 20hrs travel.

I currently have a car on a truck from Perth to Canberra with Prixcar. They were by far the cheapest of the recommendations from the dealer, being Ceva, Prixcar and Dazmac.

Cost from dealer to depot was about $1300 (with pretty easy to google 5% off discount code). Timeframe about 2 weeks.

Can't comment on how good they are as yet.

  • Update: Figured I would wait a bit longer for it to save the extra 1600kms on my odometer. Tossed up between Ceva and Prixcar. Ceva had a shorter delivery time of 9 business days compared to 15 but they wouldn't budge on their price, which was around $1600. Prixcar ended up being around $1300 after a discount code, but the wait time will be 15 business days. I'll make another comment once the car arrives which will hopefully be in good condition.

@djkelly69 Let me know how your car turns out!

Haven't had a call yet, but according to the tracking it arrived at the CBR depot at 8.30pm last night (15 August), when it wasn't due (according to the initial booking) until 23 August.

So looks like they may be an under-promise, over-deliver, type company, which is fine by me! Will update further once I have the car.

Picked up the car yesterday, no issues. Pretty dirty but not really a surprise there. Overall happy with the service, particularly as it was significantly cheaper for my purpose.

  • Final update: Car arrived at the Minto depot on Monday arvo (28 August), called and asked when it might be getting delivered, they said the estimated delivery date (6 September) may be due to a backlog of cars needing to be delivered. I assumed this was just to cover them in case but I asked to pick it up instead as I was too excited, staff were fine to update the booking details, booked in a time the same day to pick it up and let the depot know I was coming.

I went to SNSW to get an unregistered driving permit to drive it from the depot to home. It was a lot easier than I thought, took me a few minutes to fill in some forms and $28.

When I rocked up to the depot, the staff never received any update that I was coming. But after I showed them a few documents, they were able to locate the car and bring it to the gate. Car was kind of dirty as expected, but otherwise looked in good condition. Happy to recommend this company to whoever stumbles upon this thread in the future.

tl;dr Booked Prixcar on 13 August (ETA was 6 September), they picked up the car on 15 August in Hobart, arrived in their Minto depot on 28 August, picked up the car on 29 August. A lot sooner than expected. Will bring it to the next Ozbargain meetup :p
