    • had the same problem today in werribee VIC, scanned as normal no 20% discount (only standard 10% EDR off recharge) sim +$2.00 and none of the staff (even manager) heard about this offer

    • No problem at all- sim was refunded and 2 10% off the recharge were applied. Paid $23.10.

    • not sure if you need to activate the offer first

  • I bouth a miro sim and $29 reload voucher in one transaction, however, there's only 20% discount applied to the reload voucher, still paid $2 for the starter pack.

  • Bought mine today from Woolworths Brunswick (VIC). Didn't even have to show ID.

    Receipt should read as follows:

    * WOW 2 DOLLAR SIM PACK_____________2.00
    ____*EDR SIM OFFER__________________-2.00
    E VOUCHER WOOLWORTHSMOBILE 29___29.00
    ____EDR WOW PHONE_________________-2.90
    ____EDR MOBILE 10%_________________-2.90

    SUBTOTAL_______________________$23.20

Sim expiry is Oct 1 2012 (Surprisingly short expiry).
Voucher recharge expiry is Nov 1 2012.

    • Sim expiry is Oct 1 2012 (Surprisingly short expiry).

Wonder if Woolies is preparing to exit the mobile arena and is clearing out stock.

      • I think it might be related to a new contract period or change of conditions between Woolies Mobile & Optus or another telco starting very soon. Woolies Mobile SIMS are valid for quite a while. If Woolies was pulling the plug, the SIMs validity would also reflect this. If Woolies was to manage the recharges themselves (make more money & keep control) rather than let Optus do it, they might also need to have a cut off date for a change over. My guess it is just a new contract period, with new vouchers to be issued for up until November 1 or so next year. Time will tell.

        • The SIM validity is only for activation. Nothing in the SIM actually expires, just that the ICCID is expired in the database. It's a way of recycling unused IDs. If they wanted to exit the arena they could stop selling new SIMs but honour existing accounts until they expire or they hand them over to some other operator, or back to Optus, which is easy, given that it's Optus under the very thin branding.

        • I would guess… (a totally uninformed opinion, not based on any facts, so don't sue me)
It has been observed in the media that Woolies appears not to like others getting between them & any lucrative cash flow or let others take 'its' customers away. If that were true, my guess is Woolies would like to take more control of 'its' mobile service.

As Greenpossum noted "it's Optus under the very thin branding". Not enough Woolies for Woolies may be suggested. (Good enough to get things going with a supplier, test the market, then try to control it with their own product/service. I seem to remember smaller suppliers have moaned about this alleged treatment. That was their opinion, not mine.)

If that were the case, it would need a date for this change over. And everything has been leading up to the Nov 1 date for some time.

It is about a year since Woolies transitioned customers from its now shut-down 2G service. It's probably why it sold such cheap recharges - to quickly 'tie' a large number of customers to its new service.

As the current Gift Card Promotion is ONLY to gain new customers, it would make no sense to spend all that money & give away so many $20 sales, just to shut the service down & give away new customers to another business about 90 days later. That not how Woolies works!

Woolies is expanding into a number of areas like insurance - the latest area for EDR promotion. Can't see them investing & then pulling the plug with all those new customers. Its not like Dick Smith - a bricks & mortar basket case by some accounts.

'Virtual' businesses like Mobile services and insurance mean Woolies may be able to take a large share of the market (don't mention the 'M' word) selling almost no product from any supplier under its own brand, sold & tied to its outlets (a bit like they did with what was a new area for them a few years back - retailing petrol). With a large segment of the market, it could command a very good price from suppliers, or change suppliers at low cost. And that retailing can be done online, cutting Woolies costs!! Sounds more like it is the build up to a new all-Woolies (controlled) service.

Of course this is all supposition & we will know around Nov 2. Besides, my crystal ball has run out of credit & I have already received my quota of defamation threats (1 from a partner of a law firm!) in the last few weeks for my online opinion.

    • Some woolies have "new" green sim card containers with an expiry date on august 2013.

Also i have a micro sim green card not used yet that expires in January 2013 [from memory]

The october 1 2012 green pack you got is one of the older items.

My local has been clearing out the older "october 2012" green cards.

The cards i saw today were august 2013 expiry.

From november 2 2012 we will know more as to what is actually happening.

  • I stupidly bought 2 vouchers, not realising the expiry date. Anyone know if I can get a refund on the voucher?

    • +2

It only says "No Refunds if Activated" on the recharge voucher, so a refund should be available.
You may even get the full voucher price ($29) back! I have been given more than my purchase price back after a EDR discount with another Woolies purchase. I even pointed out their mistake, but they didn't care.

I go to Woolsworth store @ The Glen Shopping Ctr,, Melbourne.

Same as what a poster says above: "failed to give me this deal. Yes, I have a registered Everyday Rewards Card but the checkouts give only 10% discount on recharge and no free SIM. The staff tried to be helpful but they have not heard anything about this one-day special." Staff at The Glwn even gone to supervisor to ask for help. She checks on-line & rings theirt support line. Not gettign anywhere. Just 10% discount, no free SIM (SIM card has 0% off too). At then end, they say, "Well, we must be not one of the pasticipating store."

OK, I use a NWLY registered EveryRewards crd too to be sure. Still smae old 10% off ony for re-charge part.

  • +1

same here, no 20% off, but the staff was kind enough to adjust the total to the 20% off and free sim price.

does anyone know why it works for some but not for others???

The SIM’s that I purchased from Warwick Woolworths ( Perth, W.A.) all have the expiry as 1st September 2013

  • Gift card yet anyone?

    • In other deal, people reported received GC around 14 days after recharge. You are eager!

  • +1

Yep card received last week, now i am waiting for nov 2/3 to see what exoiry date is on the vouchers.

    • That was quick.
May also be different T&C, included calls & data, etc. (Crystal Ball still out of credit)

  • +1

Purchased a $29 recharge today and the voucher expiry date is october 1st 2013. [not november 1st 2012]

Hmmmmm at least it has changed in my local woolies.
