Note: this phone was first released in May 2020, so don't expect many (if any) future updates.

    • Hold this phone, Yes i can confirm, stop receiving OS / Color OS updates except security patches.

Pretty bad for 12GB RAM snapdragon 765 Processor no Android - 13.

      • +2

        No ROMs on XDA?

    • I stopped buying Oppo years ago when they stopped updates on that particular mobile within a very short time.

If you want updates , but an iPhone ! Stop whinging about a phone that was released in '20 with no updates available.

          It's crap.
Agreed go buy something else, that's how our world sorta works. But it's still crap and should definitely still be complained about.

        • Iphone? Gee what a downgrade

Bought this when https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/633359 was running, no ragrets

Best phone I've bought so far, beats OnePlus lineup any day in terms of user experience and all day reliability and performance.

Screwed myself though when I bought a screen protector at JB-Hifi, not realising Oppo phones already come with one pre-installed (don't remove it!), and a phone case already. So wasted $35 lol, and now I already have a scratch on the screen when the "curved tempered glass screen protector" I got from jb hifi didnt fit properly, so I removed it.

Don't buy accessories, they come in the box for this one.

    • wondering if they come with a built-in call recording feature? i want to know how oppo distributes their firmware in the AU market compared to CN market

      • Hmm just tested, don't think I see the option immediately so prob no built-in call recording

    Dual SIM?

    • Single sim only, that's one of the downsides

  • <250, maybe. 299 for a 3+ year old phone with Oppo's short updates, no.

    • I have an Oppo A52 which is (still) a great phone but stuck on Android 11 with a locked bootloader. With an unlockable bootloader Oppos are worth it

      • Do they offer unlocked bootloaders again?
I recall back in maybe 2017, they did a complete about face on bootloader unlocking, going from highly developer friendly to highly developer unfriendly in the space of about a month.

12gb ram and 256gb of storage that your $2200 iphone doesnt have.

90hz AMOLED screen, but with stupid curved edges. No thanks.

    • +2

      what's wrong with curved edges?

      • I find it annoying on my s22 ultra. Using the spen gets annoying once you get around the edges.

      • +1

        what's wrong with curved edges?

I always believed that I would never drop my phone on the ground then it happened and I felt grateful that my flat Gorilla screen didn't break.

  • Anyone ever get their Oppo A72 Optus phone unlocked?

Optus sent me an unlock code, then re verified instore. It doesnt work. BUT..

There are 3 different ways of bringing up the unlock screen! Wondering if there is a 4th I dont have? Or maybe Oppo have a master unlock etc?

    • Sent to Oppo along with unlock code provided by Optus to unlock the device under the 2 years warranty period, Oppo unlock the device and replaced the screen protector for free as gift.

      • Same imei came back?

        • Yes same device.

          • +1

@maxall: I worked it out!! Unlike an Optus store and Opportunities call centre (though they did offer for me to post it to them)

This might help someone else out. Here is what you do:

            1. Put in an Optus Sim (new unregistered sim is fine).

            2. Turn on and connect to a wifi source.

            3. Use the unlock code that starts with *#4…etc Enter the unlock code. It then cross verifies with an Oppo server (via wifi) and unlocks.

The normal placing a non Optus Sim in and entering the code will say the code is invalid.
