Thin and Light Laptop Suggestions?

Hi all - hoping to get suggestions for laptops that are thin and light, mostly for school work but also light gaming.

I'm looking at some of the older posts, but I wonder if suggestions would have changed since then, considering the pace at which laptops come out - and the rate at which older ones devalue.

I had a Intel NUC M15 (which just got stolen in the city…ugh) with an 11th Gen i7 and I thoroughly enjoyed using it, and it suited my needs perfectly.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a similar laptop? I do plan on using it long term, and appreciated the NUC's build quality.
I'm thinking something like the XPS, but at the same time it's probably a bit out of my price range, since I used all my money to buy the NUC lol.

Would love a bunch of recommendations at various price points.

Sorry for your laptop loss 😳

This deal from Dell seems pretty good for an i7 laptop. Not sure how much you got the NUC M15 for but $1199 for 12th gen i7 with 1tb ssd and 16gb ram is pretty good.

It’s fairly light I would say for a 15 inch laptop and the design looks thin as well.

If you want a 13th gen i7, there’s a 16inch laptop from Dell as well with similar specs besides i7-1360p for $1398.

    • Thank you for the suggestions!

The intel was $1050 which was a pretty good deal - might have to look at second hand models for the suggestions heh

Hard to provide any suggestions without understanding a few things, like your usage, preferences, price points, etc. I would however suggest getting at least AMD Ryzen 5th, 6th, or 7th gen chips as they're better than Intel chipsets. Intel hits stagnation since their 10th gen chip (about 3-4 years ago). I'm currently using Ryzen 7 5800H (45 Watt) chipset and it flies, with good battery life.

    • Thanks for the tips! Build quality and battery life are honestly the most important things, along with a good touch pad and keyboard since there's plenty of typing and note taking.
Wasn't sure if I should go for AMD or Intel so that helps too!

    LG gram 14" 2022 intel 12th. $1200

    • Thanks! Will have a look

I bought an LG Gram 17" 12th gen i7 via ebay around your price range
This thing is massive but light as a feather - great screen and keyboard and excellent battery life
All intel components e.g. wifi card etc. too
No GPU so only light gaming
There are 14" and 16" variants - if you can live without GPU - this is the one

Maybe this one? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/794267. Spec it with the IPS screen, 16GB ram, 512gb ssd and backlit keyboard. Less than $900. Will get way better battery life than intel spec'd laptops. The major downside is the screen as it's only 300nits (fine for indoors) and not 100% srgb, but for the price it is expected.

    • Ooh thank you - I was browsing Lenovo last night because they have good student discounts, but wasn't sure what specs to tweak. It's within a good price too, thanks!!

Get a Macbook Air, 1.3kg, $1500 - should be able to get a student discount too

Surface Pro? It's light and works for me for uni usage though I don't do any gaming on it, or use CAD or pro media production software

Actually currently using an old Surface Pro myself - but I'm struggling with the top heaviness of it, it doesn't quite fit on my lecture theature desks and it'll fall off, and I also have the same problem when it's on my lap.
And then on top of that I'm getting these touchpad issues on the typecover where once in a while it won't detect my touch, and it's extremely annoying when trying to take notes.
